INDEPENDENT
VARIABLES
In educational research
. a particular teaching
method
. a type of teaching
material
. a reward
. a period of exposure to a
particular condition
. an attribute
such as sex
or level of intelligence
TREATMENT VARIABLES ORGANISMIC OR ATTRIBUTE

introduces, removes, or changes.
Dependent variables may be a
test score, the number of errors or
measured speed in performing
a task.
The dependent variables are the measured
changes in pupil performance attributable
to the influence of the independent
variable.
INTERVENING VARIABLES EXTRANEOUS VARIABLES
• hard
• impossible to observe
• usually have to do with an
individual’s feeling
Example

-fatigue
-excitement
•more readily

• measured
• easily controlled
