1. Different Photography Techniques
General Information
Photography
Technique
Daguerreotype The daguerreotype was the
first commercially successful
photographic process,
invented around 1837 by
Louis-Jacques-Mandé
Daguerre. A daguerreotype
is like a mirror, the image
made is printed onto a silver
metal plate. It must be
handled delicately as it can
be smudge and ruined easily.
The light angle is also very
important, as it can change
the picture from being
positive to negative. Cases
where used with
daguerreotypes which where
cover lined with velvet or
plush to provide a dark
surface that reflects into the
plate for viewing. The
daguerreotype was the best
photographic process until
the 1850s when other
processes such as the
collodion process and
tintype replaced it.
Polaroid
Polaroid also known as the
instant camera is a type of
camera that later became
the camera used for film.
The first instant camera was
invented in 1923 by Samuel
Shlafrock. However
American scientist Edwin
Land was the first to unveil
the instant camera to the
world.
The Camera uses a mixture
of chemicals that create a
more practical image that
can be kept without being
smudged or damaged easily.
Positives
Negatives
-The only
thing
available at
the time
-It is very
delicate and
could be
ruined
easily.
-Isn’t
practical and
images
where poor.
-In black and
white/ no
colour
-More
practical
than
Daguerreoty
pe as it
doesn’t
smudge or
ruin easily.
-It is quicker
and had
been
unveiled for
others to
use.
-Had colour
and looked
descent.
-Chemicals
dangerous
and
expensive
-No backups
of the image

2. Digital
A digital camera is a camera
that takes video or still
photographs by recording
images on an electronic
image sensor. Most cameras
sold today are digital, and
digital cameras are
incorporated into many
devices like mobile phones.
Digital and film cameras
share an optical system,
typically using a lens with a
variable diaphragm to focus
light onto an image pickup
device. The diaphragm and
shutter admit the correct
amount of light to the
imager, just as with film but
the image pickup device is
electronic rather than
chemical. However, unlike
film cameras, digital cameras
can display images on a
screen immediately after
being recorded, and store
and delete images from
memory. Many digital
cameras can also record
moving video with sound.
Some digital cameras can
cropand perform other
elementary image editing.
