Enclosure for distribution applications
Applications
UTS enclosure for RAM installations (Repeater Access Module).
This enclosure has been designed specifically for housing sensitive electrical equipment such as
is used for telecommunication links.
The equipment is protected by a builtin enclosure (IP65) which, in turn, is integrated into a sealed
compartment.
Characteristics
- Dimensions: L x W x D = 1165 x 895 x 515 mm.
- The cover features a brass surface-mounted lock that accepts reduced-depth profile half
cylinder lock.
- Normal level of groundwater table should not extend above 25 cm below surface (street) level.
- Maximum permissible load 25 tonnes according to EN 124 standard.
- Under certain conditions the cover can be provided with a paving material or similar finish so
that it blends into its surroundings.
Enclosure for telecommunications applications
Cable connections
Cables can be connected in two different ways:
- In the case of horizontally mounted switchboxes, they can be connected directly to the load
distributor rails.
- In the case of swivelling arrangements, they are connected by means of flexible cables which
are connected, using a clamping device installed especially for this purpose, to an underground
cable with a maximum conductor gauge of 150 mm2
; the entire cable entry box is sealed by
pouring in a liquid insulating compound.

- Cover can be secured by means of a reduced depth profile half cylinder lock.
- Normal level of groundwater table should not extend above 30 cm below surface (street) level.
- Maximum permissible load 25 tonnes according to EN 124 standard.
- Under certain conditions the cover can be provided with a paving material or similar finish to
make it blend in with its surroundings.
- In a hermetically sealed 5-walled container (sealed compartment) with its open end faced
upwards a 400A rated rail system is mounted on a hinged frame which accepts 6 fused load
distributing rails also rated at 400A.
- The maximum load per fuse-protected distributing rail must not exceed 250A.
- The hinged construction, aided by a gas strut, can easily be tilted from the horizontal to the
vertical position, whereupon it is accessible just like a normal aboveground switchbox.
- When the frame is in the horizontal position the upper sealed compartment, which is mounted
to the underside of the hinged cover, can be swivelled until it is over the lower sealed compart-
ment, causing a so-called air lock to be formed between the walls of the two superimposed
sealed compartments.
- This prevents power distribution devices from coming into contact with water, even if the
enclosure was to become fully immersed in water. Of course the enclosure may also be fitted
with a horizontally placed distribution unit that lacks the swivel function.
This unit is adequately protected, so fuses can be replaced without any risk of touching live
parts accidentally.
