The document discusses the shift from an economy based on "perspiration" or physical capital to one based on "inspiration" or ideas. It argues that ideas are the key driver of prosperity in the new economy because ideas allow the same inputs to produce more output. Ideas also have an atypical cost structure with high initial costs but low marginal costs of production, which leads to increasing returns to scale and imperfect competition in contrast to the perfect competition model. The new economy is therefore more specialized in creating and commercializing ideas.
Continuous Delivery of the Cloud Foundry Platform (as a service!)Tushar Dadlani
Everyone has the question of how to continuously deliver; we have an answer that extends past the application to the platform itself.
Deploying and updating Pivotal Cloud Foundry to your infrastructure can be a complicated process if performed manually. Automation and predictability are two important criteria for any mature operations organization. This talk focuses on lessons learned while building our continuous integration pipeline for deploying Pivotal Cloud Foundry to production. It will demonstrate how the commitment of the team towards operating Pivotal Cloud Foundry in a mature way matters more than the specific tools we used. The talk will cover a year’s journey of refining the process for updating a Pivotal Cloud Foundry deployment. I will present a case study of how different manual processes and automated processes converged into what we have today.
The talk will focus on the different approaches we tried and elaborate on the details of the approach that has worked for us. The audience will leave with actionable takeaways in their pursuit of a continuously delivered platform.

Speaker: Jared Wray; Jared Wray, Builder, Founder, Investor, CFF
Jared Wray is an early cloud pioneer and a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for building platforms and robotics.
As founder and CTO of Tier 3, Wray created the Tier 3 cloud and built it into an industry-recognized cloud innovation and performance leader. CenturyLink acquired Tier 3 in 2013 to form the foundation of CenturyLink Cloud.
Wray is a respected thought-leader in the enterprise cloud services space. He created the Iron Foundry open source project to enable .NET on the Cloud Foundry.
At CenturyLink, Wray reinvigorated the engineering core to create a future-proofed platform and engine. The team's’ velocity doubled under Wray’s leadership and this velocity outpaced 75% of the Gartner MQ in new services and features.
Focusing on building teams at scale, Wray introduced an agile / lean manufacturing process over the standard waterfall process. This reduced the company’s average ship time from 18 months to just 21 days or less. This process was integrated into the engineering core for all hosting / cloud products at CenturyLink and has supported substantial growth as the company scaled from six core teams on the cloud to more than 30+ teams.
A serial entrepreneur and advocate for founders, Wray builds and invests in companies. He works hard to enable companies and further the tech industry. Wray is an advisor and investor to companies including Promoter.io and Fons.

Geoffrey Moore is an author, speaker, and advisor who splits his consulting time between start-up companies in the Mohr Davidow portfolio and established high-tech enterprises, most recently including Salesforce, Microsoft, Intel, Box, Aruba, Cognizant, and Rackspace.
Moore’s life’s work has focused on the market dynamics surrounding disruptive innovations. His first book, Crossing the Chasm, focuses on the challenges start-up companies face transitioning from early adopting to mainstream customers. It has sold more than a million copies, and its third edition has been revised such that the majority of its examples and case studies reference companies come to prominence from the past decade. Moore’s most recent work, Escape Velocity, addresses the challenge large enterprises face when they seek to add a new line of business to their established portfolio. It has been the basis of much of his recent consulting.
Irish by heritage, Moore has yet to meet a microphone he didn’t like and gives between 50 and 80 speeches a year. One theme that has received a lot of attention recently is the transition in enterprise IT investment focus from Systems of Record to Systems of Engagement. This is driving the deployment of a new cloud infrastructure to complement the legacy client-server stack, creating massive markets for a next generation of tech industry leaders.
Moore has a bachelors in American literature from Stanford University and a PhD in English literature from the University of Washington. After teaching English for four years at Olivet College, he came back to the Bay Area with his wife and family and began a career in high tech as a training specialist. Over time he transitioned first into sales and then into marketing, finally finding his niche in marketing consulting, working first at Regis McKenna Inc, then with the three firms he helped found: The Chasm Group, Chasm Institute, and TCG Advisors. Today he is chairman emeritus of all three.

"Innovation, an answer to Crisis" by Dominique Delport, CEO Havas Média FranceVivendi Content
How brands and companies can tackle with gloomy economy and lack of meaningful relationships with consumers by investing in innovation projects and fresh ideas. What is innovation ? How to innovate ? Enjoy !
People have created and modified tools to address their needs since prehistoric times. But since a few generations we simply buy the tools we need and use them in the way they have been designed. With the current pervasive presence of digital technology, these digital 'tools' are increasingly defining how we live, communicate, learn and work.
Many think of this as nauseating and constraining. We feel that we are forced to live the way big corporations have designed it for us. We feel no longer free to do what we want.
Why can't we design our own tools anymore? Is it really true that corporations always know better what we want? What about those people who fall outside of the mainstream, and have needs and contexts of life that require special tools, that these people can design themselves better than anyone else? And are we not all sometimes out of the mainstream?
In fact, we are increasingly becoming tech tinkerers, adapting our digital tools to a great variety of human needs.
This phenomenon has only just started. The open source hardware revolution has hardly kicked off, also due to the fact that digital technology that surrounds us is not always easy to modify.
But what would our world be like if technology was easy to modify? Would there be more empowerment? Innovation? Democracy? Participation? What could be in it for business? What could this all mean for people in emerging markets and for the future web of things?

In an era of lots of content and not enough time, in the midst of the culture of ‘free’, a vital question worries the media outlets: if the traditional revenue streams for content have shrunk and there is still no alternative business models, how will media survive? And what’s our role as readers, brands, and advertisers in the future of the intellectual production?

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Whatever the perspective taken, the paramount question is that of wealth:

New Economy: Atypical cost structure
Sharing Knowledge
What defines New Economy, according to Daniel Cohen, is its atypical cost
n
structure, namely a significant (not to say massive) initial outlay and a low
marginal cost for the next units
Consequence: The pure and perfect competition model falls apart. Firms will
n
enter only if they can charge a price higher than marginal cost, hence a move
away from perfect competitition.
Daniel Cohen
Why?:
n
– With increasing returns to scale average cost is always greater than
marginal cost

The increasing-returns world is a world were things tend to wander off,
n
where things that get ahead, get further ahead, where things that get down,
get further down.
How do people, corporations behave in such a world? Should they optimize à
n
la Marshall, strive for the maximization of some metrics such as EVA or rather
shoot for more holistic approaches à la forest rangers?
Well, it seems that the best option you can go for in a complex world (which is
n
a mixture of Marshall's and increasing returns') is to develop a strong sense
of adaptation.
After all, when you look at earthquakes or floods, rather complex phenomena

indeed, it is hard to predict them but easy to avoid building your house in an

worse they compete with them. The traditional notion of value chain becomes

At the end of his life, famous movie actor Jean Gabin sang a song where he

As a matter of fact, what he should have said is that we all know something

but more often than not we do not realize it or more precisely that what we

The squeeze of the content industry

The content industry is squeezed between a fast evolving tech industry that
n
empowers consumers and consumers that compete with it.
All this is very reminiscent of the gradual erosion of the market power of the
n
Robbing Barons. When financial markets and funding became easily available,
talent could go his own way and start its own ventures. The financial
revolution made it possible (see Luigi Zingales, U of Chicago)
Other things being equal, consumers have been empowered by the tech
n
revolution ( + the massive wealth surplus transfer from shareholders to
consumers during the Internet bubble). This has helped them challenge the
Media Robbing Barons.

How has the industry tackled the challenges it is facing? As usual, in the

– First, litigate, litigate, litigate: Sue your customer! Don’t listen to him or her.
– Next, merge!: AOL/Time Warner, Vivendi/Universal: Namely vertical integration:
Content + Pipes
But, this is exactly what should not have been done: Content wants to be seen,
n
listened to by as many people as possible and pipes need content as varied as
possible.
In a nutshell: They played vertical when they should have played horizontal.

They did not adapt, they just tried to optimize under constraints.
