PHASE I OF MISSION TB-FREE HARYANAAND THE PLAN FOR PHASE II WERE

MISSION TB-FREE HARYANAAIMS TO IDENTIFY PATIENTS THAT SUFFER FROM TB,
BUT ARE SPUTUM NEGATIVE AND THEREFORE NOT DETECTED EARLY OR START
TREATMENT. THE DIGITAL X-RAY HELPS IDENTIFY SYMPTOMATIC PULMONARY TB IN
PATIENTS WHO ARE SPUTUM NEGATIVE AND REFERS THEM TO GOVERNMENT TB
CENTERS FOR TREATMENT.
THE MOBILE VAN IS PRESENT AT THE PRIMARY AND COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRES
(PHCS AND CHCS) AT THE VILLAGE AND BLOCK LEVEL, WHERE X-RAY FACILITIES
ARE NOT AVAILABLE. ASHA WORKERS REFER THE SYMPTOMATIC PATIENTS FOR
TESTING AND THE DISTRICT TB OFFICERS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING THIS INITIATIVE
BY TAKING ACTIVE INTEREST IN CASE DETECTION AND REFERRALS.

2. DIET RICH IN GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES, BEANS, BERRIES,
WHOLE GRAINS AND WINE CAN HELP TO SLOW NORMAL BRAIN
AGEING AND COGNITIVE DECLINE
 A recent study has found that plant based Mediterranean-Dash Diet
Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (Mind) substantially slows
down cognitive decline and ageing can prevent or delay the onset of
Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disorders.
 In a pilot study conducted by scientists at Rush University Medical
Centre in Chicago, it was found that diet rich in green leafy vegetables,
beans, berries, whole grains and wine can help to slow normal brain
ageing and cognitive decline.
 Mind is a hybrid of the Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil and vegetables
and the DASH eating plan designed to control high blood pressure. The
diet consists of 15 dietary components and recommends at least three
servings of whole grains, a salad and another vegetable each day and a
glass of wine. Beans and poultry should be eaten at least twice a week
and fish once a week.
 The researchers tested the cognitive ability of 960 adults with an
average age of 81.4 years at 40 retirement community and senior public
housing units in the Chicago area over a period of 4.7 years. They
uncovered a slower decline in mental ability among the elderly who
adhered most closely to the diet.

3. THE INTERNATIONAL UNION AGAINST TB AND LUNG DISEASE
COLLABORATE FOR IMPROVED AND EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF TB
 Dr Sunil Kaparde, deputy director general, Central
TB Division, said, "Dr Trehan has a vision for TB-
Free Haryana and this initiative of the Medanta
Mobile Vans will definitely contribute to the cause of
TB-Free India as this will help reach those TB
patients not reached through the program and start
them on treatment earlier. If Medanta can add
linkages with the CBNAAT testing facilities now
being introduced through the Government, and offer
this facility itself, this will help further identify drug
resistant TB patients."

4. NEW MANAGING FOR PFIZER
 "Pfizer has announced that the Board of Directors of the
Company has appointed Mr S Sridhar as the Managing
Director of the Company, with effect from March 18, 2016
for a period of 5 years," the company said in a filing to
BSE.
 "The appointment of Mr S Sridhar will be subject to the
approval of shareholders at the ensuing Annual General
Meeting of the company," it added.
 Mr Sridhar joined Pfizer in June 2008. He assumed
additional responsibility of the Distribution function from
May 2013. Before joining Pfizer, Mr Sridhar was the
Finance Director in India Hub of Diageo India.
 Mr Sridhar was appointed to the Board on May 14, 2013.
