- The Devil's Lunchbox shop recently opened on Etsy selling "six-packs" of Crackadamia cookies for $25 plus shipping, but some question the value of a $4 cookie.
- The challenge is to convince customers that spending $25 for 6 cookies is a good value, when money is tight. Some suggestions include celebrating the high price as reverse psychology, comparing the cost to other expensive but less satisfying purchases, and using marketing strategies like contests and multi-level marketing to drive sales.
When you\'re committed to performance improvement and training and facing the most significant economic down-turn in decades, what do you do? Money is tight. Financing is tight. Companies are being forced to trim expenses, including people. Management is holding the line on any discretionary spending.
So, how do you make the most of the training dollars you do have .. and find funding when you don\'t.

Up sh** creek without a paddle? Need a pedicure but don't want a human touching your feet? Like a bit of porn with your pizza?
You're in luck - there's a franchise to meet your needs. As you’ll see from this collection of 20 franchise concepts that made us go: “No! Surely not?” Then we checked them out and they all exist – or did exist until recently. Really.
Then again, ten or twenty years ago, we thought dog walking and washing franchises were wacky. Now they’re mainstream.
Do these kinds of franchises prove any viable business can be franchised, no matter how offbeat? Are they simply innovative and original – tomorrow’s dog washing franchises? Or are they exploitative, bringing discredit to the franchising industry as a whole?
We’ll let you be the judge.
A common criticism of franchising is that because it seeks to systemise and standardise, it can be too boring and beige. These franchises prove otherwise!

In the rush for likes, views, and followers, we are afraid to offend anyone. We play it safe. We want to be "well-liked". Trouble is, all the likes, fans and followers in the world don't amount to diddly squat without a legion of passionate advocates. We're living through the meh economy – a market is saturated with polite mediocrity. It's time to wake up. It's time to take a stand. It's time to transform ourselves, our companies and our causes. Your industry is due for a little upheaval. Seek out unsettling influences. Better yet: Be one. Let's create big red Kool-Aid Pitchers of awesomeness that makes our fans bust through walls and say "Oh hell yeah!"
This talk covers plenty of actionable ideas for spreading your ideas – from soundbites to powerpoints to social media to media relations. You'll leave with a head full of creative ideas, a spring in your step, and the fire in your belly rekindled.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

1. Devil’s Lunchbox Value Reframe Analysis Prepared by Boyband @ Global Strategery, Inc March 30th, 2009
2. The Situation Devil’s Lunchbox opened its Etsy “crack shack” on March 30 th , 2009. The shop features “six-packs” of Crackadamia™ cookies for $25 (plus shipping and handling). While overall excitement seems high, there are some people on the interwebs who seem to be questioning the value of a $4 cookie.
3. The Challenge In these tough economic times, how do we convince crazy peeps that forking over $25+ for 6 cookies is a good idea. A few well-thought ideas…
4. Shamelessly celebrate the Crackadamia™ as the world’s finest $4 cookie. This is a crazy, yet classic piece of reverse psychology. By championing a seemingly whack price point you actually end up creating more desire and talk-value for your product. Check out Carl’s Jr’s $6 burger for inspiration.
5. Remind people what they pay for other dumb stuff that isn’t even half as tasty. Sure, some people might balk at the very thought of 6 cookies for $25. But let’s consider some of the other options currently available online. Consider the following…
10. Compare your crack to other, more expensive kinds of crack. Crack is a delicacy. But this cookie crack is far more cost-efficient than other cracks currently on the market.
11. According to WikiAnswers, a large rock of crack cocaine costs $40, considerably higher than the cost of 6 Crackadamias™.
13. My sources tell me that getting a BJ from a crack ho on Interstate Ave in Portland, OR, can cost up to $50. Talk about a ripoff!
14. Reward your “crack hos” with the chance to win free crack. Think about throwing all commenters into a weekly pool for a free shipment of cracks.
15. Enable your readers to become crack dealers. Give your BMC fans the ability to put “order now” buttons on their own blogs. Dealers who drive the most traffic can be rewarded with free crack.
16. Open up your books. Drop some knowledge on people. Show ‘em that each Crackadamia™ is made with $1 in premium, raw materials.
