Editor's Notes

  • #3 Training is a significant part of all of these areas if we are to be successful.
  • #5 -Focus on public engagement; more than just the Public Affairs Office who engages with the public
  • #8 Mission and who you want to engage with should drive tool selectionCustomize content for language and culture – Examples: Brazil, Pretoria
  • #11 PrivacyHIPPA
  • #13 Treats to the Enterprise network is largest from personal mobile devices – smart phones, tablet devices with cameras and WiFi in them
  • #14 Challenges – Anticipating the Customer – Martin Reisch - http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CN_CANADA_US_BORDER_IPAD?SITE=WABEL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
  • #15 Social Media Delivering News to Syrians:   Web Engagement and IIP/NEA have been keeping the U.S. perspective on Syria front and center with the Syrian public, working closely with Ambassador Robert Ford and NEA/PPD to distill and post pre-authorized and cleared content on the Embassy Damascus Facebook page.  WE staff has also been advising NEA/PPD on achieving optimal impact with Facebook audiences. The page’s engagement ratios are eight times the industry average and the fan base is overwhelmingly Syrian, a testimony to the credibility of the site and strong audience interest in American policy and opinion. During a recent conference, Facebook’s Associate Manager for Public Policy, Adam Conner, cited the Damascus Facebook page as a prime example of the government doing social media right. (WE, NEA)
