"Every now and again I start wondering why I ever started this journey. I have also commented, that sometimes I feel I am doing this on my own. However, after having 'one of those moments' recently, I have just trawled through blackboard and read some of the posts on the various wikis etc which you have all contributed to and they have left me feeling really inspired and excited and privileged to be doing this and has made me realise that actually I am not doing it on my own and there is support out there in cyber space! So, if anyone else has 'a moment' of doubt ....try reading through some of our comments!"

Editor's Notes

  • #4 Change within the profession Development of a profession University Strategy Local vs UK wide/International Widening participation Learning technologies
  • #6 A module vs a programme Blended learning vs totally on line
  • #7 Marketing – difficult to understand whos who Finance ISD – initial support but as things becoming real then problems (not supporting peripherals etc) LT International Office Admissions School PPes Peers Students COT/WFOT etc
  • #8 The teaching and learning is more important than the technology Social constructivist (that students learn best when involved in the development of their own learning. And learn from each other) Negotiated asssessment This is what we want students to learn let’s look at how the technology enables us to do this.
  • #11 Replicate a good classroom experience Capitalise on international element and manage attrition Create an online presence Making shift from student/teacher to peer/assessor
  • #15 Where we are now It doesn’t stop developing
  • #16 We were given lots of advice but decisions ours to make at the end. Questions that expected to have an answer for: How many students self –funding What do OTs do in Jamaica How much time will be needed to do…… Questions are there to enable you to demonstrate your programme clearly – try not to get too defensive Early stage rationale needed
  • #17 Keep notes on everything Save emails Set targets and deadlines Have a good filing system Label versions clearly The approval document is your bible Admin staff to committees are your oracle
  • #18 That you need to know everything The wider university is an interesting place Don’t do it alone Push boundaries Know your rationale Know your market Make friends with a Techie or two Don’t get defensive – the process is there for a purpose It takes a long time!! Know your deadlines well in advance Predict the future Don’t rely on others for answers ( it will never be their priority) Know your rationale from any early stage Be a project manager When to step back and have a break from it When to push the team and when to leave them alone Web 2.0
