Developing A Better Diagnosis And Treatment For The...
In the past, social workers and other helping professional have only focused on the client with the problem, assuming the professional has the
knowledge to treat the issue. Social worker now know that it is essential to analyze human behavior in social environments to develop a better
diagnosis and treatment for the problem. A helpful practice insocial work and other related fields is the system theory and ecological perspective. One
of the first steps in assisting clients is identifying the presenting problems.
There are several alarming components in Charlie situation. Charlie has been living with his maternal aunt Eleanor for the past three months due to
the fact that his biological mother Eloise suffers from depressive episodes. His mother has a history of having this illness since her early twenties. Her
depressive episodes seem to be triggered by the recent birth of Eloise's daughter Pearl. Josefsson, Larsson, Sydsjö, and Nylander (2007) noted that,
postpartum depression is common during the first 6–12 weeks after parturition and it usually disappears after a couple of months, but may continue for
one year after childbearing if untreated. Eloise could be suffering from postpartum depression since there seems to be a connection between the time of
her child's birth and her condition. Another concerning factor is the effects of Charlie displacement. Charlie has been accustomed to living with both
of his parents and now he forced to live with his aunt. Johnson, Yoken,

Adaptive And Systems Leadership : The Health And Social...
ADAPTIVE AND SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP
In the health and social care sector, we are operating in increasingly complex systems, especially in the context of the ever–growing pressures on the
NHS, the changes in UK demography and the increasingly close alignment with local government and voluntary sectors. The environment is
characterized Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA) (Welbourn, 2015). A
complex system is one in which even knowing
everything there is to know about the system is not sufficient to predict precisely what will happen (Welbourn, et al. 2012). In a complex system
arguably perhaps the most suited approach to effective leadership is an adaptive one.
What is adaptive and systems leadership?

What is the theory?
In adaptive leadership the leader challenges people to face tough problems and learn new ways of dealing with change (Heifetz (1994).
Adaptive Vs Technical challenges
Adaptive leadership differentiates between:
Technical problems: which are easily defined and can be solved through expert knowledge and skills, with recognized solutions, and
Adaptive problems: which are "fuzzy" problems: difficult to define with solutions that are hard to identify and implement. These are problems where
the normal ways of doing things will not work.
Heifetz identified three situational types based on the balance of technical and adaptive work required:
Type 1 situations: the problem can be clearly defined, the solution and implementation are clear; (they require technical work)
Type 2 situations: the problem can still be clearly defined but the solution and implementation are not so clear and require learning; (they require a mix
of technical and adaptive)
Type 3 situations: the problem is unclear and requires learning, the solution and implementation are unclear and require learning; (they require adaptive
work)
Six leadership behaviours underpin adaptive leadership:
1.Get on the Balcony – this is a metaphor for stepping out of the arena where all the action is taking place (from the dance floor to the balcony), to a
vantage place literally (going somewhere quiet and removed

Which Theory Of Catastrophe Is Most Important? Us, And Why?
Which theory of catastrophe is most useful to us, and why? Theories of catastrophes are great for analysing the causal effects of a disaster, but the
real world provides a unique set of systems that cannot be adequately described by many of these theories. Generally speaking, in the real world the
scale of system is usually quite large and comprised of individual sub–systems. While these theories of catastrophes can describe the events and causes
of these individual sub–systems, when applied to the entire system cannot satisfactorily how catastrophes have occurred. However there does exist
aspects of the theories that can somewhat be useful in analysing catastrophes in these large scale systems. Some of the main features of Perrow's
Normal Accident Theory and Turner's Human Made Disaster Theory do provide an insight on what may have caused a catastrophe and elicit the
flaws in these large scale systems. Modern Society has become overly complex, relying on an array of sub–systems in order to function. Oil, Power,
Transport and Shipping are just a few of these sub–systems that are critical to the function of society today. All of these sub–systems are co–dependent
from one another. Seeing how Shipping and transport are reliant on power and oil, and similarly that power is mostly generated from oil and coal,
which itself relies on shipping to be de delivered. This creates an extremely complex world that is extremely sensitive to change. That being, if one of

To increase the effectiveness of proposed changes and improvements, organizations use multiple scientific methods and techniques. For change to be
successful management must develop political support. This support is necessary because to initiate change management must have political power
within the organization and outside of the organization. This power is often necessary to ensure a smooth transition during the development process
(Authenticity Consulting, 2011). Organizational development of a business may appear to be an extensive and complicated process; however, given
the right conditions the change can be almost seamless. To have successful change a crucial component is communication. Another condition that
would assist with successful organizational development is preparing and conditioning employees for change. This is an area where communication is
pertinent. A business that has effective communication with employees' with clients and with stakeholders will have an easier transition. It is
important for employees to understand the changes taking place, why the changes are taking place and the role he or she has in the transition. Aside
from communication, another crucial component necessary to ensure change is support. Without support, change would be impossible. Support from
management is especially important because

Social Justice. Generalist social workers should engage in macro practice when possible to promote social and economic justice. All families should
have access to the resources and services they need. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), created a code of Ethics to use in practice.
"Social Workers advocate for fair and equitable access to public services and benefits. Social workers advocate for equal treatment and protection under
the law and challenge injustices, especially injustices that affect the vulnerable and disadvantaged," (McLaughlin, 2009). The worker involved with the

This theory also incorporates the way the subsystems keep everything flowing and in a state of equilibrium. GST deals with the relationships, roles,
boundaries and the flow of information between people (Barker, 1999). To understand the dynamic at work in the Grape family we must look at it
from the model of the Family Systems Theory (FST). FST falls under the General Systems theory as a subsystem. Until Arnie climbs the water tower
and is arrested, the family was in a state of equilibrium. Once Bonnie leaves to go to the police station, the dynamic of the household changes.
The Family Systems Theory. introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen refers to treating the family as a unit, instead of only treating the individual. Dr. Bowen
theorized that a client cannot be separated from their family system when evaluated. This concept was born out of the General Systems Theory (GST)
that Social Workers employ (Helm, 2014). To assist the Grape family toward rebuilding their family as a healthy, functioning unit. A plan must be
implemented that involves the entire family. It could include family therapy, individual therapy, and Respite care for overwhelmed members.
Social workers have many different practices and approaches to draw on for work with individuals, families, communities and society as a whole.
These approaches and techniques can be varied depending on the distinctive

Foundations of Human Development in the Social Environment
The foundation of human development, responds to the breakdown of its commitment to the development of attitudes and skills, which facilitate
authentic personal, spiritual, and social development and the transformation throughout an individual's life span. During an individual's life span, the
foundations of human development begin to change, as the direct result of the social environment. Contact within the social environment, such as

In this era, diversity and cultural competence are extremely important to understand, regarding the foundations of human development in the social
environment. Diversity can alter or affect an individual's behavior in many ways. Diversity is considered when an individual is different, or composed
of differing elements. Therefore, diversity can include different nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, class, disability, gender identity,
immigration status, political ideology, and religion. At any time, an individual is determined as belonging to another group, different from the
majority, the individual is considered to be subject to the effects of diversity. Many children coming from different countries have a problem with
language. Not being able to speak the language of the community can cause huge barriers for the children to overcome. Many parents believe that the
key to a successful life and fulfillment is to get an education. These parents encourage their kids, that with an education nothing can defeat you. It is
also very important for the social worker, or human service provider to be comfortable with diversity, and is culturally competent. Cross–cultured
means the individual appreciates and compares the differences and the similarities of different cultures as well as their own.

Essay on Families as Navigators and Negotiators
In a 2010 article, "Families as Navigators and Negotiators: Facilitating
Culturally and Contextually Specific Expressions of Resilience," Ungar explores the concept of resiliency as a process achieved by families through
finding resources and effectively negotiating for them. Ungar explains that the achievement of resilience can look different for people from different
cultures based on culturally relevant definitions of positive outcomes and culture specific methods of reaching outcomes. The author discusses ways in
which social workers encourage resilience within diverse populations on different levels of social work while operating from a de–centered point of
view. Ungar is effective in making clear that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Families and individuals attempting to achieve resilience can be described as subystems of larger systems. According to Hutchison (2013), many
systems have boundaries that indicate who is in and who is out (p. 39). The systems idea of boundary is pertinent to the culturally competent
resilience model because in many cases boundaries can keep families away from resources that could be employed to help them be resilient. In the
same way, in cultures where these boundaries tend to be more open or loose, individuals may be more well–equipped with the skills they need to
access resources. Luhmann in his 1987 work on systems theory touches directly on the idea of culture and closed systems proposing that as systems
become very complex, they become more and more closed to each other (as cited in Hutchison, 2013, p. 41). Luhamnn posits that with the development
of culture and languages within a closed system they become unable to receive feedback from other systems. On the individual level, this could
manifest in the inability of an individual or family to fare well unless met with culturally specific interventions which Ungar emphasizes the importance
of.
The Ecologial Perspective Ungar's article also relates to the ecological theory of human behavior. As outlined in Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda (2012),

opportunity to motivate leaders and followers giving them a since of empowerment through training to eschew mistakes. The main characteristic
difference between traditional organizations and LO were their system thinking (Johnson, 2009). O'Connor & McDermott (1997) noted that system
thinking is comprised of feedback loops (reinforcing and balancing) with identifiable patterns and continuous loops that helped people think in circles

Systems Theory Application And System Theory
Systems Theory Application Organizations can be thought of as a system. Systems are defined as a collection of independent components which are
interrelated and work together to accomplish goals. A system can be an organization as a whole, departments within the organization, and groups
within the organization or processes (Hayajneh, 2007). Systems can be either an open system or a closed system. An open system has characteristics
of interacting with the environment (Encyclopedia of Management, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to give a description of a department within a
known health care organization using system theory terminology. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory (NSDT) will be the theory of focus for this
paper. A description of a problem within a specific department will be identified using an open–system approach. Using the NSDT model, the problem's
positioning within the model will be explained. An explanation of how the problem will be addressed along with the desired outcome and goals that
will facilitate the outcome. New procedures will be identified and how the proposed resolution will follow the organization's mission and values,
improving the culture and climate of the department. Department Description The department of focus is the Emergency Department (ED) in a

Analysis And Critique Of Nursing Bsn Educational Programs
Introduction A system is an interconnected set of elements that is organized such that it achieves a function (Meadows, 2008). According to the
National League of Nursing (2013) the annual survey of nursing schools in fall of 2012 for Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs
increased from 677 programs in 2011 to 696 programs in 2012 (National League of Nursing, 2013). In a 2010 survey of professional trends, over 5.1
million nursing professionals were working in the U.S, making it the fastest growing career between 2006 and 2010 (American Association of
Colleges of Nursing, 2015). Thus, the analysis and critique of nursing BSN educational programs is critical to the improvement of healthcare. The
purpose of the following paper is to first assess BSN school systems using the concepts of General Systems Theory and to evaluate the school system
applying basic principles, concepts, and processes.
Analysis of System Concepts
A system consists of elements, interconnections, and a function or goal (Meadows, 2008). External and internal forces affect educational systems and
induce change. Educational systems are affected by external and internal forces that induce change. The following will address the goal of the BSN
system using general systems theory and explore elements and processes of the system.

Critique the relevance of the systems model to the study of politics
Models, theories and concepts as approaches for analysing policy and decision making have been developed by political and social scientists to guide
the study of public policy, to facilitate communication and to suggest possible explanations for policy actions. This essay is a critique of the relevance
of the systems model to the study of politics.
A model is conceptually defined as a theoretical representation of empirical data that aims to advance understanding through highlighting of significant
relationships and interactions. According to Heywood (2007) one of the most influential models in political analysis is the Political system model

A demand can be defined as a condition or situation that produces needs or dissatisfaction among people for which relief or redress is sought. For
example problems such as air pollution, unwholesome food, abortion, urban congestion, crowded prisons and global warming are conditions that may
become problems if they produce sufficient anxiety or dissatisfaction to cause people to seek a remedy. For this to happen people must have some
criterion or standard by which the troubling condition is judged to be both unreasonable or unacceptable and appropriate for government to handle
Anderson (1997). Conditions do not become public problems unless they are defined as such, articulated by someone or defined as such. The systems
model therefore does not explore these highlighted problems.
According to Jackson & Jackson (ibid) the systems analysis is criticised often arguing that the model on which it is based does not help discern
which part of a political system are essential or influential. It is further argued that it is impossible to predict how or even whether a change in one
part of the system will affect another part. Furthermore political systems are not as closely related as the model implies. Political systems are not as
static as the model implies

This paper will critically review Inigo and Albareda's (2016) arguments that sustainable innovation has multiple components, is best viewed through the
complex adaptive systems lens and is implemented within organisations in either non–linear, self–organising or emergent mechanisms. Specifically this
paper will review and critique the definition of sustainable innovation within the complex adaptive system framework. It will then consider the
implications of the research on a medium sized human services organisation, specialising in disability support services, in south–east Queensland.

adaptive systems have been overly simplistic in their development (Paina and Peters, 2012).
Alternative Approaches to Sustainability Innovation
Lankoski (2016) applied systems theory to sustainability and concurred with Inigo and Adelaba (2016) that organisations are complex environments
that both influence and are influenced by the external environment, but argues that the components of sustainable innovation are: scope, suitability and

Organizational Theories Of Change Within Human Organizations
Introduction An Organizations ability to survive and manage change has become increasingly important in an environment where globalization and
competition are more intensifying. In the mid–20th century there has been increased attempts that apply to an organizational's theories of change
within human organizations. The first theory is concerned only with stability and equilibrium and the control of negativity or feedback. Cao and
Mchugh's (2005) system views many organizations as interacting within the environment. The orgazational environment is set up of relationships that
relate to stakeholders or agents that factor beyond an organizations control. In dealing with a phenomena comples, the syaste no longer sees the concept
adequate.
This has led to the new theory which focuses on non–equilibrium, instability and the emergence of new structures and patterns. Systems are considered
self organizing or evolving in the complexity paradigm. Contemporary organizations are pervasive with change and interdepencies can be either drawn
between the public or private sectors where similar environmental challenges. Many of these changes have taken place in the economic and political
environment. In order to help understand the changes the better the management process more effectively, a more comprehensive and dynamic change
of management is suggested. By intergrating systems theories, complexity, the fluid process of organizational change and the disruptive, organizational

A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas )
Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has become the order of the day where more and more
businesses are heading towards that direction to have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are
sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole system to which all these complicating factors
contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most
organizations are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature by design and to do this; business
leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real
time to match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we need to understand what a system is. A
system is defined as "an assembly of elements hooked together to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of
the whole" ("Complex Adaptive Systems," n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies, ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is
the study of natural systems and how they interact, adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). By this definition, it is fair to say that organizations

Introducing Systems Theory, Marriage And Family Therapists
Introducing Systems Theory
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) in training are tasked with helping a family work through conflict and arrive and more intimate and
interdependent relationships, which can seem daunting or maybe even terrifying. However, the interaction patterns that show up in families can find
some context and clarity for a therapist who knows systems theory. Systems theory suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from their
family context because families create relational processes and generate a "sequence of interactions" and behaviors in order to maintain dynamic
stability of the self–regulating family system (Nichols, 2013, pp. 58–59). How does this general systems theory help an MFT guide a family in
therapy? In this paper I will take three systems theory principles and apply them to a movie in order to demonstrate how it provides a language and
context for MFTs, thus making it an essential tool in family therapy.
I will begin with a brief synopsis of Demme's movie, Rachel Getting Married (2008), and its primary family characters. Next I will discuss three key
principles of systems theory and use the movie characters interactions as examples for each corresponding principle. In the conclusion I will share my
learning experience in doing this assignment.

In the modern age where business is spread globally the challenges in front of an organization are highly complex as the competition intensifies. Due to
the complexity in the organizational management the older system methodology seems to become less relevant and sparingly less useful in these
situations. These issues led to the introduction of complexity paradigm (Amagoh, 2008). Complexity theory was derived from the chaos and systems
theory to show how a system is not confined in its boundaries and the growth or fall of an organization or a system depends upon how it is able to
adapt and change to various situations.
Complexity in an organization can be defined as the heterogeneity or diversity in the internal environment factors like ... Show more content on

Unlike the general systems theory stating that the organizations strive to achieve equilibrium complexity theory states that the equilibrium state would
mean the death of an organization. The very essence of life is to change and transform according to the need of the moment like Samsung took into
Smartphone market with vigor transforming them into the technology giants they are at the moment.
Another difference between the General system theory and the complexity theory is the boundary. While in the case of general system theory a fixed
boundary is defined for each system there is no fixed boundary as explained in the complexity theory. The boundaries keep changing along continually.
As per complexity theory a 'bounded instability' state between rigidity and chaos is the perfect building block for growth and creativity in a team (The
Complexity Advantage, Kelly and Alison).
There are two principle ideas which the complexity theory works on. The first is based on the structure of an organization with a trade of between the
efficiency and flexibility of an organizational structure. This addresses that a system should be partially connected rather than a completely coupled or
decoupled system (Kauffman, 1995; Langton, 1990; Gell–Mann, 1994a). According to many when a system is over connected the ability to adapt to
changing situations becomes

A social system is a special order of systems... composed of persons or groups of persons who interact and influence each other's behavior. "Within this
order can be included persons families, organizations, communities, societies, and cultures" (Robbins, Chatterjee & Canda, 2011). The systems
theory allows us to examine the focal system from a micro, meso, or macro perspective. Keeping all of the individual systems autonomous, while still
being able to conceptualize the interrelatedness of the systems together.
Similar to the systems theory, the ecological theory embraces many of the same concepts, but has narrowed the focus, so that it does not include such a
broad view of the system. The Ecological theory is an adaptive, evolutionary view of human beings in constant exchange interchange with all elements
of their environment (Germain & Gitterman, 1980, p. 5). The idea that person and the environment are inseparable and must be considered jointly,

shapes each other.

The New Adventures Of Old Christine
In Kari Lizer's television show, The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006), it can be described as a middle aged woman named Christine who is
divorced, raising her young son, and trying to sustain peace with those around her including her ex–husband, Richard, her ex–husbands new girlfriend,
"new" Christine, her stay at home brother, Matthew, and the judgmental moms from her son's school. As Christine struggles to balance her job, work
on her insecurities, and take care of her son, she also struggles to keep up with those in her life. This paper will analyze an episode from The New
Adventures of Old Christine and it will highlight the basic concepts that come from the Family Systems Theory such as boundaries, subsystems, family
cohesion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory also argues that in order to apprehend a family system, we must observe the family as a whole. In other words, it's not who makes up a
family, it is in which way they come together that defines that unique family. With these basic ideas from the Family Systems Theory, we can look at a
scene from The New Adventures of Old Christine from the episode, "Ritchie Has Two Mommies," to examine further concepts of the theory. In this
episode, Christine feels threatened by her ex–husbands new girlfriend. Richard is ready for his son Ritchie to meet his new girlfriend. When Richard
springs his request on Christine, she despondently tells Richard that she is okay with him bringing over his new girlfriend to meet their son, though
she really isn't ready for that kind of step. The next morning, when Richard brings his new girlfriend over to meet Ritchie, the two explain that they
would like to take Ritchie out for breakfast. Christine feels threatened by the girlfriend but still allows for them to take Ritchie out to breakfast. In the
same day, Ritchie has a school event where you bring your parents. Christine goes with her brother Matthew and then Richard shows up to the event
with Richie and his new girlfriend. Although Christine is upset that Richard brought his new girlfriend to

PART I–THEORY
Describe the key fundamentals of systems theory
Just about anything in life can viewed as having systems (Baccarini 2013). They can be found anywhere from within nature to anywhere in society and
business. To better understand the principle of systems and the theories associated with them it is important to define what a 'system' is. There have been
many experts who have helped create and contribute to systems theory and they all have similar thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned before a common thought of systems thinking is that the whole is more than the sum of its parts and this means that these relationships
between systems and subsystems provide synergies that would not otherwise be present if those parts of the system performed individually.
All systems are goal–seeking. In all cases each component in a system has a task or purpose, and each task contributes completing the shared common
goal of the system. It is said that if systems lack well–defined goals they tend to go in all directions, when effective systems all tend to move in the
direction of the goal achievement (Shoech 2004). The Business Dictionary definition of system mentioned earlier stated that they 'maintain their
activity... in order to achieve the goal of the system.' It is important to be able to recognise the objectives of a system to ensure that it is working
effectively and evaluate whether changes need to be made to increase its capacity to achieve its goals (Systems Theory Overview 2013).
Systems will always have boundaries and these boundaries contain the system which is made up of elements or subsystems. Systems can be broken
down and each individual part, or element, can be analysed and will have a purpose. Sometimes these elements can be broken down again into
individual parts and analysed further and this is called a subsystem. Systems Theory Overview (2013) states that it is important to be able to recognise

interpreted as the fraction of the mean square value of y(n) that can be attributed to the component of the input x(n) at frequency П‰k . Usually,
pseudorandom noise is used as an input x(n). The two identification methods, direct and inverse, then estimate the system response as

Features And Functions Of Information Systems Essay
Features and functions of information systems
Features
Data
Data needs to be inputted into an information system so it can be managed and processed. Once processed, the end product is information, this is
called an output. Data is generated by all parts of a business but can also be received via external sources. Data must be accurate or else the output
information will be wrong.
People
People are involved in obtaining data and processing it to create information for specific purposes relevant to the business. Staff need to have the
correct training and skills to get the most out of information systems and make them effective employees to get information and process it properly.
Hardware
The hardware used in information systems must be capable of using software used in the business, as well as handle the grand amount of data and
information processed and stored on it as well. The hardware must be up to date to enable storage and use of data and information in the future.
Software
Software used by the business and its staff must have the correct features and functionality needed to produce and use information created by the
business. It must also have the correct features to enable staff to correctly and efficiently do their job such as analysing and processing data and reports.
Functions of information systems
Information systems perform functions such as gathering input data, storing it, processing it and then producing output information. They also control

The National Association Of Social Work Essay
When working in a field of expertise the experts in that area need to know what defines that field. Social work, with its roots over a hundred years
old, started out simply offering assistance to others, has grown and changed, and is currently reconnecting with its roots (Bisman, 2004). Bisman
(2004) emphasizes the importance of being an advocate of justice and keeping the field focused on the "social" part of social work. This push to keep
social work focused on the needs of others defines social work today. Social work focuses on providing aide to the needy and increasing awareness
of those that are oppressed. The National Association of Social Work (NASW) has identified a set of values that all social workers must consider
during the course of their work (NASW, 2008). Social work values are broadly covered when you define social work as being a profession of
aiding those in need and addressing oppression. Helping those in need directly relates to the value of supporting the needs of others. The definition
also addresses the importance of bringing awareness to oppression. This relates to the values of addressing injustice, individuality and promoting
harmony. On a broader perspective, all social workers are encouraged to continually pursue knowledge in their area and maintain ethical practices.
Values have the purpose of ensuring that helpers always strive for what is best for the client. Manning (1997) points out that "the power to intervene in

Family Theory
Introduction After reviewing the theories, I have chosen Family System theory to discuss how various factors may impact at different stages in the
family lifecycle in a Singapore context. "Family systems theory grew out of the general systems theory, a conceptual framework developed in the
1960s by Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1968), and family therapists applied these ideas to marriage and family as a system." (Olson, 2003, p.71). He
proposed that a system is characterized by the interactions of its components and the nonlinearity of those interactions. In the family cycle context, a
family member is only a piece of the whole family and his dynamic interactions with his family and environment will determine his functionality as an

The General System Theory For Understanding Modern...
The shift of research and theory models went through a major shift during the 1960s and 1970s when the "open systems perspective" gained support as
an embedded interdependent activities embedded in and dependent on a wider environment. "System theories of organization have two major
conceptual themes or components: (1) applications of Ludwig von Bertalanffy's general system theory to organizations and (2) the use of quantitative
tools and techniques to understand to understand complex relationships among organizational and environmental variables and thereby to optimize
decisions (Shafritz, Ott, & Jang, 2011)." A system is an organized collection of parts interacting and designed to accomplish specific organizational
goals or purposes. The general system theory provides an important perspective for understanding modern organizations. The systems theory views of
an organization as being complex set of interconnected elements, such as the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback loops, and the environment in
which it operates and with which is continuously interacts. System theorists are continuing to study the interconnections using organizational decision
processes and information and control systems as their focal points of analysis. The open systems became the more dominate organizational theory
during the 1960's that the classical organization theorists rationale was closed system that pursued the goal of economic efficiency. The open system

As Advances Are Being Made In Unmanned Aerial Systems (Uas)
As advances are being made in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) their potential use across many applications becomes less of a vision and more of a
reality. In recent years the military, public entities, and commercial entrepreneurs have integrated UAS into performing many missions previously
performed by humans or other legacy technologies. Due to this increased dependence on UAS, it is vital that Command, Control, and
Communications (C3) prove to be reliable, predictable, and secure. The Department of Defense (DOD) has also identified the need to keep UAS
affordable and effective across many applications while allowing the sharing of C3 elements across the military and other DOD entities. Therefore,
many technologies are currently aimed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a practical standpoint, UAS are made up of five separate, distinct subsystems; they are the aerial vehicle platform, the payload, datalink, surface

"Standard Interfaces of UAV Control System (UCS) forNATOUAV Interoperability" (p. B–6) STANAG 4586 Edition 3, NATOStandardization

For effective UAS operations, the C3 elements need to be reliable, predictable, and secure from hacking, interference, and jamming. The hobbyist who
owns a DJI Phantom UAS is most certainly concerned about their platforms' C3 elements; no different from the DOD operator controlling a Predator
on a real–world military mission; just at significantly different levels of concern due to the consequences of losing command and control. Additionally,
the DOD and other entities have an interest to command and control more than one UAS platform at any given time with one standardized
communication system (United States. Department of Defense, 2013). This idea of developing a standardized communication system which enables
different UAS to efficiently and effectively share information, and share command and control among authorized users is known as interoperability
(United States. Department of Defense, 2013).

Introduction
The existing research on automatic perception of human emotions has opened up a new dimension for Human–Computer Interaction research, and also
showed great potential to benefit and support a wide variety of applications, including computer assisted learning.
Emotional analysis and Facial expression recognition are of next great field to study to to develop a better human–computer interaction and social
behavior understanding.
Recognition of face expressions and emotions may help to improve interactions with a robot or any intelligent machine in socially assistive robotics
and computational behavioral science, or to study people's social engagement in any collaborative tasks.

System Theory
Systems theory: a scientific/philosophical approach and set of concepts, rather than a theory, for the transdisciplinary study of complex phenomena. It
was first proposed by the biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy in the 1940's (anthology: "General Systems Theory", 1968), as a reaction against scientific
reductionism*. Rather than reducing a phenomenon (say, the human body) to a collection of elements or parts (say, the organs or cells),systems theory
focuses on the relations and interactions between the parts, which connect them into a whole (see holism*). The particular arrangement of ... Show more

This difference in emphasis can be seen in the various branches of Systems Theory and their use of the term "system". General Systems Theory,
founded by Ludwig von Bertalanffy [13], was an attempt to revive a view of Unified Science through the study of the attributes and properties
common to all real systems, con– ceived of as physical processes and objects. He emphasized in par– ticular that, in contrast to the then prevalent
prejudice in physical science, real systems are open to, and exist in complex hierarchical relations with, their environments; and that by continual
Evolution, qualitatively new properties can appear through Emergence. This view is related to the evolutionary philosophy of Spencer [11], Berg– son
[3], and de Chardin [4], and later systems philosophical work of
Laszlo [8], Turchin [12], and Jantsch [6]. Mathematical Systems Theory derives from the modeling view of Systems Theory, which sees a system as a
(usually mathematical) model of a bounded area of the universe. This work arose from iso– morphies developed between models of electrical circuit
systems and other physical systems, and is exemplified by the mathematical the– ories of Zadeh [15], Ashby [1, 2], Mesarovic [9], Rosen [10], and Klir
[7]. This view is related to philosophical Constructivism, which sees

Integrating Change Models and the Theology of Leadership...
Integrating Change Models and the Theology of Leadership A sentiment common to almost any organization is that the one fact that remains constant
is change. As society changes, and human understanding grows, any organization that maintains a static posture, assures its demise. Churches and
Christian organizations are no exception. The gospel may remain the same, but the method for communicating it must speak to the audience to assure
understanding. The Christian leader must be prepared to meet this challenge by incorporating an effective model for change into his theology of
leadership in order to keep the ministry relevant and effective. Searching for such a change agent can prove to be challenging as well. To aid in this

The Breakthrough Innovation Framework, or BrinnovationTM, incorporates Kotter's Leading Change model, while emphasizing a framework of
innovation (Gupta, 2011). The Brinnovation framework accentuates the abilities and talents of those in the system, with its success depending on a
change in the organization's culture to embrace innovation (Gupta, 2011). The leadership can achieve a transformation in organizational thinking by
applying Kotter's eight–step plan, focusing on creativity (Gupta, 2011).
The General Systems Theory (GST) came about as an effort to describe the systems approach, born from the biological concept of the organism
developed in the first part of the 20th century (Von Bertalanffy, 1972). In contrast to the mechanistic systems which are closed and have a direct
relationship between a cause and its effect, a biological or social system is open, operating on a principle of equifinality, where regardless of the
starting point, the objective can be achieved (Kast & Rosenzweig, 1972). Any system will achieve equilibrium, but an open system can reach a steady
state by accessing resources from outside itself (Kast & Rosenzweig, 1972). The underlying assumptions of GST rely on the organization of a company
resembling the inner workings of an organism. However, subgroups within organizations can act independently of the the whole, in

Social Identity Theory And Social Interaction Theory Essay
Social Identity Theory In 1979, Tajfel and Turner are recognized for the development of social identity theory (SIT) (Tajfel & Turner, 1979). Through
earlier studies, Tajfel attempted to understand mechanisms that lead to group members to discriminate against non–group members, which lead to
evolution of SIT (Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012). The Tajfel and Turner developed SIT with the purpose of understanding social group
discrimination (Tajfel & Turner, 1979). SIT is based on three concepts: Social categorization; social identity, and social comparison (Tajfel &
Turner, 1979; Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012; Mols, & Weber, 2013). SIT has been used in psychological research for many of years, but
has also provided a theoretical framework for research in many disciplines including human services to understand social changes of groups (Hogg,
van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012). Key Constructs Social categorization. Social categorization is how individuals sees or put themselves andr others
into categories (Mols, & Weber, 2013). Typical categories often used to label self are interest, race, gender, profession, and other factors (Mols, &

The Internet of Things
What is the Internet of Things?
The internet of things (IoT) is the growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address that allow them to connect to the Internet. It is also
considered as the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet–enabled devices and systems. The types of interactions this
network can have are people–people, people–machines, and machines–machines (M2M). The IoT broadens the scope of devices that can connect to the
Internet from traditional devices, like laptops and computers, to a diverse range of devices that use embedded technology to communicate and interact
with the external environment through the Internet. The number of devices that are connected to the IoT is exploding, with the current number being
around 12 billion devices worldwide. Several researchers estimate that there will be 26 times more connected things than people by 2020. There are a
number of explanations as to why this is happening. One reason is the huge increase in address space that IPV6 offers. The expansion was so large that
every atom on the earth could be assigned an address, and there would still be enough addresses for another one hundred earths. Another reason is that
cloud–based applications are allowing the use of leveraged data by taking all of the information from the devices, interpreting it, and transmitting the
information. The power of computing by using the

A system is an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves something. "If you look at the definition closely for a
minute, you can see that a system must consist of three kinds of things: elements, interconnections and a function or purpose." (Meadows. D, 2009).
Others have come up with similar definitions of systems, including: Senge (2012) suggested that the discipline of systems thinking is useful for seeing
and understanding wholes, interrelations and change patterns. Second is roundtable theory which is a shared leadership theory for school change.
Gabriele (2002) explained that involving stakeholders in the decision–making process through shared leadership can lead to higher levels of
commitment. Lastly Argyris and Schon (1978) argued that organizational learning was critical to an organization's survival. They argued that
Double–Loop learning was the most effective way of making informed decisions about the way we design and carry out the action in achieving
organization learning.

Reset Control System : View Of Internal Concept
Reset Control System – view of internal concept
Keywords: Clegg Integrator; Base Linear System; Reset Control
Abstract. Reset controllers has began in 1959 with the Clegg integrator; It was not until the Horowitz work on quantitative design procedure was
developed in 1974, firstly around the Clegg integrator in Krishnan and Horowitz and then another progress has made in 1975 around the first order
reset element (FORE) in Horowitz and Rosenbaum.
Introduction
The mechanism of a reset controller is a strategy that resets the controller to its ' Zero state or part of it, when a certain condition happen. This
condition which triggers the reset action can be explained with an example of plant is a standard linear time invariant (LTI) system with a transfer
function P(s) as in Fig. 1.1 below. The broken box of C(s) indicates to its ' operation as a Reset Controller Suppose that the linear system C(s) is given
by a first order transfer function в†’ C(s)=K/(s+a ')
Thus the base linear dynamics would be Гє = –au + Ke . Since our assumption for reset condition is Zero crossing, then the input (e = 0) and that the
reset action is the zero reset of the controller state.
The equations which represent this reset controller as a First Order Reset Element ( FORE) Гє(t) = –au(t) + Ke(t) when e(t) в‰ 0 u(t+) = 0 when e(t)
= 0.

Systems Thinking: Processes and Dynamics
The concept of systems thinking started in the 1920's and was considered a fundamental aspect of several disciplines, most notably among them the
fields of engineering and biology, and scholars in these fields noted in their observations that there were many aspects of which scientific analysis
could not explore. Most scientists use a tool called the Scientific Method, popularized by Karl Popper from his ideas from his work in 1938–1963. His
idea of practicing science is to formulate a hypothesis, try to prove it wrong, and then from your results form a new hypothesis (2014, Weaver).
While this can increase our knowledge base and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why then have these supposed tools for dealing with complexity not empowered us to escape the illogic of the arms race?
"The answer lies in the same reason that sophisticated tools of forecasting and business analysis, as well as elegant strategic plans, usually fail to
produce dramatic breakthroughs in managing a business. They are all designed to handle the sort of complexity in which there are many variables:
detail complexity. But there are two types of complexity. The second type is dynamic complexity, situations where cause and effect are subtle, and
where the effects over time of interventions are not obvious. Conventional forecasting, planning, and analysis methods are not equipped to deal with
dynamic complexity. Mixing many ingredients in a stew involves detail complexity, as does following a complex set of instructions to assemble a

Here are two potential organizations and brief descriptions of their operations that could be analyzed for an operations management paper:1. Hospital - Hospitals are complex organizations that must efficiently manage various operations like emergency services, surgery scheduling, medical equipment and supply procurement, patient flow, housekeeping, food services, billing/insurance processes, etc. A hospital presents many opportunities to study operations management concepts like capacity planning, quality control, inventory management, waiting line management, and more.2. Package Delivery Service (e.g. UPS, FedEx) - Delivery services involve sophisticated logistics and transportation networks to move packages around the world on tight schedules. Operations concepts like route planning, vehicle scheduling, warehouse operations, demand forecasting, performance tracking are

  • 1. Developing A Better Diagnosis And Treatment For The... In the past, social workers and other helping professional have only focused on the client with the problem, assuming the professional has the knowledge to treat the issue. Social worker now know that it is essential to analyze human behavior in social environments to develop a better diagnosis and treatment for the problem. A helpful practice insocial work and other related fields is the system theory and ecological perspective. One of the first steps in assisting clients is identifying the presenting problems. There are several alarming components in Charlie situation. Charlie has been living with his maternal aunt Eleanor for the past three months due to the fact that his biological mother Eloise suffers from depressive episodes. His mother has a history of having this illness since her early twenties. Her depressive episodes seem to be triggered by the recent birth of Eloise's daughter Pearl. Josefsson, Larsson, SydsjГ¶, and Nylander (2007) noted that, postpartum depression is common during the first 6–12 weeks after parturition and it usually disappears after a couple of months, but may continue for one year after childbearing if untreated. Eloise could be suffering from postpartum depression since there seems to be a connection between the time of her child's birth and her condition. Another concerning factor is the effects of Charlie displacement. Charlie has been accustomed to living with both of his parents and now he forced to live with his aunt. Johnson, Yoken, ... • 2. Adaptive And Systems Leadership : The Health And Social... ADAPTIVE AND SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP In the health and social care sector, we are operating in increasingly complex systems, especially in the context of the ever–growing pressures on the NHS, the changes in UK demography and the increasingly close alignment with local government and voluntary sectors. The environment is characterized Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA) (Welbourn, 2015). A complex system is one in which even knowing everything there is to know about the system is not sufficient to predict precisely what will happen (Welbourn, et al. 2012). In a complex system arguably perhaps the most suited approach to effective leadership is an adaptive one. What is adaptive and systems leadership? This approach entails ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the theory? In adaptive leadership the leader challenges people to face tough problems and learn new ways of dealing with change (Heifetz (1994). Adaptive Vs Technical challenges Adaptive leadership differentiates between: Technical problems: which are easily defined and can be solved through expert knowledge and skills, with recognized solutions, and Adaptive problems: which are "fuzzy" problems: difficult to define with solutions that are hard to identify and implement. These are problems where the normal ways of doing things will not work. Heifetz identified three situational types based on the balance of technical and adaptive work required: Type 1 situations: the problem can be clearly defined, the solution and implementation are clear; (they require technical work) Type 2 situations: the problem can still be clearly defined but the solution and implementation are not so clear and require learning; (they require a mix of technical and adaptive) Type 3 situations: the problem is unclear and requires learning, the solution and implementation are unclear and require learning; (they require adaptive work) Six leadership behaviours underpin adaptive leadership: 1.Get on the Balcony – this is a metaphor for stepping out of the arena where all the action is taking place (from the dance floor to the balcony), to a

Theories of catastrophes are great for analysing the causal effects of a disaster, but the real world provides a unique set of systems that cannot be adequately described by many of these theories. Generally speaking, in the real world the scale of system is usually quite large and comprised of individual sub–systems. While these theories of catastrophes can describe the events and causes of these individual sub–systems, when applied to the entire system cannot satisfactorily how catastrophes have occurred. However there does exist aspects of the theories that can somewhat be useful in analysing catastrophes in these large scale systems. Some of the main features of Perrow's Normal Accident Theory and Turner's Human Made Disaster Theory do provide an insight on what may have caused a catastrophe and elicit the flaws in these large scale systems. Modern Society has become overly complex, relying on an array of sub–systems in order to function. Oil, Power, Transport and Shipping are just a few of these sub–systems that are critical to the function of society today. All of these sub–systems are co–dependent from one another. Seeing how Shipping and transport are reliant on power and oil, and similarly that power is mostly generated from oil and coal, which itself relies on shipping to be de delivered. This creates an extremely complex world that is extremely sensitive to change. That being, if one of these components ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Change in organizational mission, change in the economy, and change of inner structural changes can organizational mission, change in the economy, and change of inner structural changes can necessitate organizational development. According to Jex and Britt (2008), organizational development is the implementation of programs, techniques, and methods that work together to enhance individual performance and organizational improvements. This paper will highlight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To increase the effectiveness of proposed changes and improvements, organizations use multiple scientific methods and techniques. For change to be successful management must develop political support. This support is necessary because to initiate change management must have political power within the organization and outside of the organization. This power is often necessary to ensure a smooth transition during the development process (Authenticity Consulting, 2011). Organizational development of a business may appear to be an extensive and complicated process; however, given the right conditions the change can be almost seamless. To have successful change a crucial component is communication. Another condition that would assist with successful organizational development is preparing and conditioning employees for change. This is an area where communication is pertinent. A business that has effective communication with employees' with clients and with stakeholders will have an easier transition. It is important for employees to understand the changes taking place, why the changes are taking place and the role he or she has in the transition. Aside from communication, another crucial component necessary to ensure change is support. Without support, change would be impossible. Support from management is especially important because ... "Social Workers advocate for fair and equitable access to public services and benefits. Social workers advocate for equal treatment and protection under the law and challenge injustices, especially injustices that affect the vulnerable and disadvantaged," (McLaughlin, 2009). GST deals with the relationships, roles, boundaries and the flow of information between people (Barker, 1999). To understand the dynamic at work in the Grape family we must look at it from the model of the Family Systems Theory (FST). FST falls under the General Systems theory as a subsystem. Until Arnie climbs the water tower and is arrested, the family was in a state of equilibrium. Once Bonnie leaves to go to the police station, the dynamic of the household changes. The Family Systems Theory. introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen refers to treating the family as a unit, instead of only treating the individual. Dr. Bowen theorized that a client cannot be separated from their family system when evaluated. This concept was born out of the General Systems Theory (GST) that Social Workers employ (Helm, 2014). To assist the Grape family toward rebuilding their family as a healthy, functioning unit. A plan must be implemented that involves the entire family. In this era, diversity and cultural competence are extremely important to understand, regarding the foundations of human development in the social environment. Diversity can alter or affect an individual's behavior in many ways. Diversity is considered when an individual is different, or composed of differing elements. Therefore, diversity can include different nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, class, disability, gender identity, immigration status, political ideology, and religion. At any time, an individual is determined as belonging to another group, different from the majority, the individual is considered to be subject to the effects of diversity. Many children coming from different countries have a problem with language. Not being able to speak the language of the community can cause huge barriers for the children to overcome. Many parents believe that the key to a successful life and fulfillment is to get an education. These parents encourage their kids, that with an education nothing can defeat you. Ungar explains that the achievement of resilience can look different for people from different cultures based on culturally relevant definitions of positive outcomes and culture specific methods of reaching outcomes. The author discusses ways in which social workers encourage resilience within diverse populations on different levels of social work while operating from a de–centered point of view. According to Hutchison (2013), many systems have boundaries that indicate who is in and who is out (p. 39). The systems idea of boundary is pertinent to the culturally competent resilience model because in many cases boundaries can keep families away from resources that could be employed to help them be resilient. In the same way, in cultures where these boundaries tend to be more open or loose, individuals may be more well–equipped with the skills they need to access resources. Luhmann in his 1987 work on systems theory touches directly on the idea of culture and closed systems proposing that as systems become very complex, they become more and more closed to each other (as cited in Hutchison, 2013, p. 41). Luhamnn posits that with the development of culture and languages within a closed system they become unable to receive feedback from other systems. On the individual level, this could manifest in the inability of an individual or family to fare well unless met with culturally specific interventions which Ungar emphasizes the importance of. Systems are defined as a collection of independent components which are interrelated and work together to accomplish goals. A system can be an organization as a whole, departments within the organization, and groups within the organization or processes (Hayajneh, 2007). Systems can be either an open system or a closed system. An open system has characteristics of interacting with the environment (Encyclopedia of Management, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to give a description of a department within a known health care organization using system theory terminology. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory (NSDT) will be the theory of focus for this paper. A description of a problem within a specific department will be identified using an open–system approach. Using the NSDT model, the problem's positioning within the model will be explained. An explanation of how the problem will be addressed along with the desired outcome and goals that will facilitate the outcome. New procedures will be identified and how the proposed resolution will follow the organization's mission and values, improving the culture and climate of the department. Department Description The department of focus is the Emergency Department (ED) in a Ministry Health System Hospital located in Wisconsin. The ED is an open system as it continually interacts with the environment. In a contemporary healthcare system, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the National League of Nursing (2013) the annual survey of nursing schools in fall of 2012 for Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs increased from 677 programs in 2011 to 696 programs in 2012 (National League of Nursing, 2013). In a 2010 survey of professional trends, over 5.1 million nursing professionals were working in the U.S, making it the fastest growing career between 2006 and 2010 (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). Thus, the analysis and critique of nursing BSN educational programs is critical to the improvement of healthcare. The purpose of the following paper is to first assess BSN school systems using the concepts of General Systems Theory and to evaluate the school system applying basic principles, concepts, and processes. Analysis of System Concepts A system consists of elements, interconnections, and a function or goal (Meadows, 2008). External and internal forces affect educational systems and induce change. Educational systems are affected by external and internal forces that induce change. This essay is a critique of the relevance of the systems model to the study of politics. A demand can be defined as a condition or situation that produces needs or dissatisfaction among people for which relief or redress is sought. For example problems such as air pollution, unwholesome food, abortion, urban congestion, crowded prisons and global warming are conditions that may become problems if they produce sufficient anxiety or dissatisfaction to cause people to seek a remedy. For this to happen people must have some criterion or standard by which the troubling condition is judged to be both unreasonable or unacceptable and appropriate for government to handle Anderson (1997). Conditions do not become public problems unless they are defined as such, articulated by someone or defined as such. The systems model therefore does not explore these highlighted problems. According to Jackson & Jackson (ibid) the systems analysis is criticised often arguing that the model on which it is based does not help discern which part of a political system are essential or influential. It is further argued that it is impossible to predict how or even whether a change in one part of the system will affect another part. Organizational Theories Of Change Within Human Organizations Introduction An Organizations ability to survive and manage change has become increasingly important in an environment where globalization and competition are more intensifying. In the mid–20th century there has been increased attempts that apply to an organizational's theories of change within human organizations. The first theory is concerned only with stability and equilibrium and the control of negativity or feedback. Cao and Mchugh's (2005) system views many organizations as interacting within the environment. The orgazational environment is set up of relationships that relate to stakeholders or agents that factor beyond an organizations control. In dealing with a phenomena comples, the syaste no longer sees the concept adequate. This has led to the new theory which focuses on non–equilibrium, instability and the emergence of new structures and patterns. Systems are considered self organizing or evolving in the complexity paradigm. Contemporary organizations are pervasive with change and interdepencies can be either drawn between the public or private sectors where similar environmental challenges. Many of these changes have taken place in the economic and political environment. • 18. A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas ) Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has become the order of the day where more and more businesses are heading towards that direction to have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole system to which all these complicating factors contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most organizations are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature by design and to do this; business leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real time to match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we need to understand what a system is. A system is defined as "an assembly of elements hooked together to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of the whole" ("Complex Adaptive Systems," n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies, ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is the study of natural systems and how they interact, adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). Introducing Systems Theory, Marriage And Family Therapists Introducing Systems Theory Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) in training are tasked with helping a family work through conflict and arrive and more intimate and interdependent relationships, which can seem daunting or maybe even terrifying. However, the interaction patterns that show up in families can find some context and clarity for a therapist who knows systems theory. Systems theory suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from their family context because families create relational processes and generate a "sequence of interactions" and behaviors in order to maintain dynamic stability of the self–regulating family system (Nichols, 2013, pp. 58–59). How does this general systems theory help an MFT guide a family in therapy? In this paper I will take three systems theory principles and apply them to a movie in order to demonstrate how it provides a language and context for MFTs, thus making it an essential tool in family therapy. I will begin with a brief synopsis of Demme's movie, Rachel Getting Married (2008), and its primary family characters. Next I will discuss three key principles of systems theory and use the movie characters interactions as examples for each corresponding principle. In the modern age where business is spread globally the challenges in front of an organization are highly complex as the competition intensifies. Due to the complexity in the organizational management the older system methodology seems to become less relevant and sparingly less useful in these situations. These issues led to the introduction of complexity paradigm (Amagoh, 2008). Complexity theory was derived from the chaos and systems theory to show how a system is not confined in its boundaries and the growth or fall of an organization or a system depends upon how it is able to adapt and change to various situations. Complexity in an organization can be defined as the heterogeneity or diversity in the internal environment factors like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the general systems theory stating that the organizations strive to achieve equilibrium complexity theory states that the equilibrium state would mean the death of an organization. The very essence of life is to change and transform according to the need of the moment like Samsung took into Smartphone market with vigor transforming them into the technology giants they are at the moment. Another difference between the General system theory and the complexity theory is the boundary. While in the case of general system theory a fixed boundary is defined for each system there is no fixed boundary as explained in the complexity theory. The boundaries keep changing along continually. As per complexity theory a 'bounded instability' state between rigidity and chaos is the perfect building block for growth and creativity in a team (The Complexity Advantage, Kelly and Alison). There are two principle ideas which the complexity theory works on. The first is based on the structure of an organization with a trade of between the efficiency and flexibility of an organizational structure. This addresses that a system should be partially connected rather than a completely coupled or decoupled system (Kauffman, 1995; Langton, 1990; Gell–Mann, 1994a). As mentioned before a common thought of systems thinking is that the whole is more than the sum of its parts and this means that these relationships between systems and subsystems provide synergies that would not otherwise be present if those parts of the system performed individually. All systems are goal–seeking. In all cases each component in a system has a task or purpose, and each task contributes completing the shared common goal of the system. It is said that if systems lack well–defined goals they tend to go in all directions, when effective systems all tend to move in the direction of the goal achievement (Shoech 2004). The Business Dictionary definition of system mentioned earlier stated that they 'maintain their activity... in order to achieve the goal of the system.' It is important to be able to recognise the objectives of a system to ensure that it is working effectively and evaluate whether changes need to be made to increase its capacity to achieve its goals (Systems Theory Overview 2013). Systems will always have boundaries and these boundaries contain the system which is made up of elements or subsystems. Systems can be broken down and each individual part, or element, can be analysed and will have a purpose. Sometimes these elements can be broken down again into individual parts and analysed further and this is called a subsystem. Systems Theory Overview (2013) states that it is important to be able to recognise

Social work, with its roots over a hundred years old, started out simply offering assistance to others, has grown and changed, and is currently reconnecting with its roots (Bisman, 2004). Bisman (2004) emphasizes the importance of being an advocate of justice and keeping the field focused on the "social" part of social work. This push to keep social work focused on the needs of others defines social work today. Social work focuses on providing aide to the needy and increasing awareness of those that are oppressed. The National Association of Social Work (NASW) has identified a set of values that all social workers must consider during the course of their work (NASW, 2008). Social work values are broadly covered when you define social work as being a profession of aiding those in need and addressing oppression. Helping those in need directly relates to the value of supporting the needs of others. The definition also addresses the importance of bringing awareness to oppression. This relates to the values of addressing injustice, individuality and promoting harmony. On a broader perspective, all social workers are encouraged to continually pursue knowledge in their area and maintain ethical practices. The shift of research and theory models went through a major shift during the 1960s and 1970s when the "open systems perspective" gained support as an embedded interdependent activities embedded in and dependent on a wider environment. "System theories of organization have two major conceptual themes or components: (1) applications of Ludwig von Bertalanffy's general system theory to organizations and (2) the use of quantitative tools and techniques to understand to understand complex relationships among organizational and environmental variables and thereby to optimize decisions (Shafritz, Ott, & Jang, 2011)." A system is an organized collection of parts interacting and designed to accomplish specific organizational goals or purposes. The general system theory provides an important perspective for understanding modern organizations. The systems theory views of an organization as being complex set of interconnected elements, such as the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback loops, and the environment in which it operates and with which is continuously interacts. System theorists are continuing to study the interconnections using organizational decision processes and information and control systems as their focal points of analysis. Emotional analysis and Facial expression recognition are of next great field to study to to develop a better human–computer interaction and social behavior understanding. Recognition of face expressions and emotions may help to improve interactions with a robot or any intelligent machine in socially assistive robotics and computational behavioral science, or to study people's social engagement in any collaborative tasks. emotion recognition include approaches which tend to extract a representation of the face appearance, adopting some classification framework. Some approaches use temporal information, other use a frame–based representation. The newer works are supported by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. System Theory Systems theory: a scientific/philosophical approach and set of concepts, rather than a theory, for the transdisciplinary study of complex phenomena. It was first proposed by the biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy in the 1940's (anthology: "General Systems Theory", 1968), as a reaction against scientific reductionism*. Rather than reducing a phenomenon (say, the human body) to a collection of elements or parts (say, the organs or cells),systems theory focuses on the relations and interactions between the parts, which connect them into a whole (see holism*). The particular arrangement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This difference in emphasis can be seen in the various branches of Systems Theory and their use of the term "system". General Systems Theory, founded by Ludwig von Bertalanffy [13], was an attempt to revive a view of Unified Science through the study of the attributes and properties common to all real systems, con– ceived of as physical processes and objects. He emphasized in par– ticular that, in contrast to the then prevalent prejudice in physical science, real systems are open to, and exist in complex hierarchical relations with, their environments; and that by continual Evolution, qualitatively new properties can appear through Emergence. This view is related to the evolutionary philosophy of Spencer [11], Berg– son [3], and de Chardin [4], and later systems philosophical work of Laszlo [8], Turchin [12], and Jantsch [6]. Mathematical Systems Theory derives from the modeling view of Systems Theory, which sees a system as a (usually mathematical) model of a bounded area of the universe. This work arose from iso– morphies developed between models of electrical circuit systems and other physical systems, and is exemplified by the mathematical the– ories of Zadeh [15], Ashby [1, 2], Mesarovic [9], Rosen [10], and Klir [7]. • 40. Integrating Change Models and the Theology of Leadership... Integrating Change Models and the Theology of Leadership A sentiment common to almost any organization is that the one fact that remains constant is change. As society changes, and human understanding grows, any organization that maintains a static posture, assures its demise. Churches and Christian organizations are no exception. The gospel may remain the same, but the method for communicating it must speak to the audience to assure understanding. The Christian leader must be prepared to meet this challenge by incorporating an effective model for change into his theology of leadership in order to keep the ministry relevant and effective. Searching for such a change agent can prove to be challenging as well. To aid in this search, four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Breakthrough Innovation Framework, or BrinnovationTM, incorporates Kotter's Leading Change model, while emphasizing a framework of innovation (Gupta, 2011). The Brinnovation framework accentuates the abilities and talents of those in the system, with its success depending on a change in the organization's culture to embrace innovation (Gupta, 2011). The leadership can achieve a transformation in organizational thinking by applying Kotter's eight–step plan, focusing on creativity (Gupta, 2011). The General Systems Theory (GST) came about as an effort to describe the systems approach, born from the biological concept of the organism developed in the first part of the 20th century (Von Bertalanffy, 1972). In contrast to the mechanistic systems which are closed and have a direct relationship between a cause and its effect, a biological or social system is open, operating on a principle of equifinality, where regardless of the starting point, the objective can be achieved (Kast & Rosenzweig, 1972). Any system will achieve equilibrium, but an open system can reach a steady state by accessing resources from outside itself (Kast & Rosenzweig, 1972). The underlying assumptions of GST rely on the organization of a company resembling the inner workings of an organism. However, subgroups within organizations can act independently of the the whole, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Social Identity Theory And Social Interaction Theory Essay Social Identity Theory In 1979, Tajfel and Turner are recognized for the development of social identity theory (SIT) (Tajfel & Turner, 1979). Through earlier studies, Tajfel attempted to understand mechanisms that lead to group members to discriminate against non–group members, which lead to evolution of SIT (Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012). The Tajfel and Turner developed SIT with the purpose of understanding social group discrimination (Tajfel & Turner, 1979). SIT is based on three concepts: Social categorization; social identity, and social comparison (Tajfel & Turner, 1979; Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012; Mols, & Weber, 2013). SIT has been used in psychological research for many of years, but has also provided a theoretical framework for research in many disciplines including human services to understand social changes of groups (Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012). Key Constructs Social categorization. Social categorization is how individuals sees or put themselves andr others into categories (Mols, & Weber, 2013). Typical categories often used to label self are interest, race, gender, profession, and other factors (Mols, & Weber, 2013). Individuals who categorize themselves and other members with similar characteristics, form a group the members are consider an in–group (Tajfel & Turner, 1979; Hogg, van Knippenberg, & Rast, 2012; Mols, & Weber, 2013).An out –group is any that does not identify or observed the same characteristics as the in–group which often ... • 42. The Internet Of Things? Essay Natasha Finnegan Dr. Ekong ECE 455.001 2/1/16 The Internet of Things What is the Internet of Things? The internet of things (IoT) is the growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address that allow them to connect to the Internet. It is also considered as the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet–enabled devices and systems. The types of interactions this network can have are people–people, people–machines, and machines–machines (M2M). The IoT broadens the scope of devices that can connect to the Internet from traditional devices, like laptops and computers, to a diverse range of devices that use embedded technology to communicate and interact with the external environment through the Internet. The number of devices that are connected to the IoT is exploding, with the current number being around 12 billion devices worldwide. Several researchers estimate that there will be 26 times more connected things than people by 2020. There are a number of explanations as to why this is happening. One reason is the huge increase in address space that IPV6 offers. The expansion was so large that every atom on the earth could be assigned an address, and there would still be enough addresses for another one hundred earths. Another reason is that cloud–based applications are allowing the use of leveraged data by taking all of the information from the devices, interpreting it, and transmitting the information. The power of computing by using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each take into account how the environment can positively or negatively affect a person's life and their perception of life, when dealing with a stable and traumatic experience. They both consist of subsystems or levels that gives social workers possible explanations to how a person can deal and perceive well–being, trauma and resilience. Also both include an importance of time as a factor to person and environmental interactions . This research process makes a good starting point for the capstone project. The research uses evidence from conceptual theories to database research literature from several learning organizations training & development methodologies. Booth, W. C., Colomb, G. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A system is an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves something. "If you look at the definition closely for a minute, you can see that a system must consist of three kinds of things: elements, interconnections and a function or purpose." (Meadows. D, 2009). Others have come up with similar definitions of systems, including: Senge (2012) suggested that the discipline of systems thinking is useful for seeing and understanding wholes, interrelations and change patterns. Second is roundtable theory which is a shared leadership theory for school change. Gabriele (2002) explained that involving stakeholders in the decision–making process through shared leadership can lead to higher levels of commitment. Lastly Argyris and Schon (1978) argued that organizational learning was critical to an organization's survival. They argued that Double–Loop learning was the most effective way of making informed decisions about the way we design and carry out the action in achieving organization learning. Reset controllers has began in 1959 with the Clegg integrator; It was not until the Horowitz work on quantitative design procedure was developed in 1974, firstly around the Clegg integrator in Krishnan and Horowitz and then another progress has made in 1975 around the first order reset element (FORE) in Horowitz and Rosenbaum. Introduction The mechanism of a reset controller is a strategy that resets the controller to its ' Zero state or part of it, when a certain condition happen. This condition which triggers the reset action can be explained with an example of plant is a standard linear time invariant (LTI) system with a transfer function P(s) as in Fig. 1.1 below. The broken box of C(s) indicates to its ' operation as a Reset Controller Suppose that the linear system C(s) is given by a first order transfer function в†’ C(s)=K/(s+a ') Thus the base linear dynamics would be Гє = –au + Ke . Since our assumption for reset condition is Zero crossing, then the input (e = 0) and that the reset action is the zero reset of the controller state. The equations which represent this reset controller as a First Order Reset Element ( FORE) Гє(t) = –au(t) + Ke(t) when e(t) в‰ 0 u(t+) = 0 when e(t) = 0. Systems Thinking : Processes And Dynamics Faline Jett POLS 612/Sun Graduate Paper November 18, 2014 Systems Thinking: Processes and Dynamics The concept of systems thinking started in the 1920's and was considered a fundamental aspect of several disciplines, most notably among them the fields of engineering and biology, and scholars in these fields noted in their observations that there were many aspects of which scientific analysis could not explore. Most scientists use a tool called the Scientific Method, popularized by Karl Popper from his ideas from his work in 1938–1963. His idea of practicing science is to formulate a hypothesis, try to prove it wrong, and then from your results form a new hypothesis (2014, Weaver). While this can increase our knowledge base and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why then have these supposed tools for dealing with complexity not empowered us to escape the illogic of the arms race? "The answer lies in the same reason that sophisticated tools of forecasting and business analysis, as well as elegant strategic plans, usually fail to produce dramatic breakthroughs in managing a business. They are all designed to handle the sort of complexity in which there are many variables: detail complexity. But there are two types of complexity. The second type is dynamic complexity, situations where cause and effect are subtle, and where the effects over time of interventions are not obvious. Conventional forecasting, planning, and analysis methods are not equipped to deal with dynamic complexity. Mixing many ingredients in a stew involves detail complexity, as does following a complex set of instructions to assemble a machine, or taking inventory in a discount retail store. But none of these situations is especially complex dynamically. "When the same action has dramatically different effects in the short run and the long, there is dynamic complexity. When an action has one set of consequences locally and a very different set of consequences in another part of the system, there is dynamic complexity. When obvious interventions produce nonobvious consequences, there is dynamic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
