The Man Next Door
Two bestfriends, LUKE and JOEL are returning from schoolon a Friday
afternoon after a long week at school to Joel’s house. Luke lets his mum
know that he is having a sleepover at Joel’s houseand the two order a
takeaway and startwatching somefilms. OnceJoel’s mum gets home
fromwork, Joel and Lukedecide to go into the garden to have a kick
about with a football. Carelessly, Lukeaccidently kicks the football over
their garden fence into the next-door neighbors garden. Luke reluctantly
jumps over the fence into the garden, hoping that the homeowner
doesn’tnotice him. Looking for the ball, Luke quickly notices that the
football is resting next to a slightly dilapidated shed. As Lukebends over
to pick up the football, he notices someodd items in the shed through
the dirty shed window. Heimmediately calls over Joel for him to havea
look and Joel quickly hops over the fence to join him. Shocked at the
contents in the shed, which include a variety of knives, axes and other
items, and whatseems to be dried blood and worn out or burnt
photographs, theboys jump back over the fence back in Joel’s garden.
Discussing whatthey’veseen, they tell Joel’s mother, AMANDA, aboutit,
but she quickly dismisses their concerns stating that the neighbor ‘likes
to keep himself to himself’ and that his business is none of their
concern. However, the neighbour overhears the conversation after
noticing the boys through his upstairs window previously. Later in the
evening, the neighbor clears everything out of his shed, hiding all
possibleevidence of his apparent nefarious activities.
The next evening, the boys jump over the fence to try and capture
images and a video recording of the shed’s contents to prove to Joel’s
mother something unusualis there. Disappointed, the boys return home
after finding nothing in the shed apart fromgardening tools. The
following day, after watching the man leave his home, the boys decide
to investigate his home, and so, after knocking on the front door to
check if anyoneis in, they go to the back garden and enter through an
unlocked window. Onceinside, the boys startlooking around, carefully
looking in rooms and checking through drawers, allwhilst filming. The
home seems eerily quiet and meticulously neat, though there is a rotten
smell about the place. However, they start to hear small grunts and
moans coming fromwithin a room. So they move towards it, slowly
opening the door and step inside. Within the roomthey see what
appears to be a woman tied to a chair. Her eyes are tainted and her skin
seems dead; peeling and rotting. The roomis dark, but the boys
recognizesome of the items they saw the previous day, along with dried
blood on the floor. Nearby, a fresh poollays with bone fragments resting
inside.
Suddenly, the man, who has reentered his home quietly says, ‘you
shouldn’tbe here’, beforeknocking the boys unconscious. Heties their
hands and feet and dumps them in one of the corners of the room. A
few hours later, the boys begin to wake, though dizzy and confused,
they see the man feeding the ‘woman’ whatseems to be a human limb.
The man notices his victims and informs them his wife has entered a
‘state of confusion and uncontrollable behaviour’ in her final stages of
terminal brain cancer. He states that shecannot eat anything other than
human flesh, as he has tried feeding her other food but resorted to
human meat, which seemed to work. Ever since, he has been murdering
people to feed her. He informs the boys that they have witnessed too
much and that he cannot afford to lose his wife and so mustend their
lives to feed his wife. However, during this, Joel has been able to use a
shattered bone as a knife to cut through Luke’s ties. As the man grabs a
large knife and moves towards theboys, Lukesprings up, still slightly
dazed, and punches the man, making him fall backwards into his wife
who bites his arm. The man screams outin pain but rebalances himself
and starts chasing the boys, who havenow escaped the room. The boys
startnavigating the house, but find that doors are locked and the
windows they entered fromhavebeen closed. They both run upstairs to
find that there is no way for them to escape the house. There is a final
showdown with the next door neighbour and the boys.
