This document is a screenplay summary for a detective story. It describes two detectives, Wei Shen and Cole Phelps, investigating the murder of a woman in an alley. They examine the crime scene but find little evidence. Phelps questions the victim's husband who claims he didn't do it. Later at their agency, a shy Asian woman named Clara drops off an envelope with potential evidence, including photos and a note asking Shen to meet the sender at a cafe the next day.

2. EXT. STREETS OF RANDOM PART OF TOWN - NIGHT
Camera follow a random female walking the streets alone from
behind. She walking into an alley where her apartment is.
She opens her handbag for her keys. As she is looking in the
dimly light area, a hand grabs her from behind. Cut to
Black, hear a knife and a scream that gets cut off.
CROSS FADE
EXT. STREETS OF RANDOM PART OF TOWN - SUNRISE
Police and civilians are gathered around the scene of the
crime. People take out their cameras to upload to the
internet. A path is cleared for the two detectives. The
camera is set in front of their faces
DETECTIVE ONE
(Takes out badge)
Excuse me, we are authorized to
investigate around here. Surely you
don’t mind?
POLICE OFFICER
(Inspects badge)
Oh, yes detective Wei Shen right
this way. um wait, kid, let me see
your badge
The second detective whips out his badge as he give the
officer a disgusted look
POLICE OFFICER
(Looks at badge carefully)
Okay detective Cole Phelps right
this way
The officer moves the police tape out of the way for Shen
and Phelps. The camera trucks with them as they are walking.
Phelps looks at Shen
COLE PHELPS
Man, why do they always give me
that look? It makes me not feel
like a real detective
WEI SHEN
Yeah, that’s because you look like
a kid next to me. It’s your posture
man, it’s not good.
Phelps stops in mid track and looks at Shen awkwardly as the
camera stops and Shen continues to walk off camera.

WEI SHEN
(Crouches down and inspect the
body)
So what happened?
POLICE OFFICER
Well, we really don’t know. No one
was there to witness this. The only
thing we can conclude is that she
struggled because of the small
scratch marks around her neck. We
can also conclude that she was
stabbed, once in the arm and then
through the back.
Shen takes out a camera and takes pictures of the evidence.
WEI SHEN
Not a lot of evidence here. Just
the bag? Whats in it?
Shen puts on a pair of gloves and checks the content of the
bag. As Shen looks through the bag Phelps looks at the
officer
COLE PHELPS
Does the victim have any family
living with her? Husband, son,
daughter, mother, father?
POLICE OFFICER
Yes she does. She lives with her
Husband, Michael White. He is the
one that reported this. He is over
there, We’ve asked him and he is
open to answer questions now.
The officer points to the left, Michael White is standing
there sobbing in between words talking to other police
officers. Phelps Walks over to Mr. White.
POLICE OFFICER ONE
(with police officer two)
Okay, thanks you for the
information.
COLE PHELPS
Mr. White? Hi, detective Cole
Phelps, I’m just going to ask you
some questions
Back at the body with Shen. Shen pulls out a cell phone
carefully.

WEI SHEN
(looks through the phone)
Oh lovely, a cell phone. Let’s
see....oh damn the batteries are
dead.
POLICE OFFICER
Now don’t be to hasty with getting
rid of that, it’s still evidence.
WEI SHEN
(puts phone back in)
Yeah yeah I got it.
Back at Phelps. Phelps ask Mr. White a few questions
COLE PHELPS
Now, Mr. White. Does your wife have
any enemies?
MICHAEL WHITE
(in between sobs)
Not that I know of. She always
minded her own business. I honestly
don’t know who could have done
this.
COLE PHELPS
Well anyone can be a suspect, even
you. Now we are not saying it is
you, but a possibility.
MICHAEL WHITE
How dare you say that, I LOVED HER
WITH ALL MY HEART! I WOULD NEVER DO
SOMETHING AS...HEART RIPPING AS
THIS!...I’m sorry, this...this
Isn’t a good time.
COLE PHELPS
Of course, come by our agency when
you can so we can ask some more
questions.
Phelps hands Mr. White a card. The camera zooms onto the
text, "Shen & Phelps Agency". Title "Case number one:
Mysterious Deaths"

5. 4.
INT. DETECTIVE AGENCY - DAY
FADE
Shen is on the computer looking for anything linked the Mrs.
White’s death. Phelps is sitting in a chair, examining the
evidence. Someone knocks on the door.
WEI SHEN
(Startled)
Oh, someone is at the door. Come
in!
In walks a very cute Asian girl. Long hair, average height,
shy looking, envelope in hand.
WEI SHEN
(Smiles)
Why hello there. I’m detective Wei
Shen and this is my partner,
detective Cole Phelps. How may we
be of assistance?
The cute Asian girl shuffles around nervously.
CUTE ASIAN GIRL
(Nervously)
Well um...I have some evidence to
the recent murdering of Mrs. White.
WEI SHEN
Oh you do? And what is your name?
CUTE ASIAN GIRL
Uh... Clara...
Clara does a slight bow
WEI SHEN
Whoa, no need to be really formal.
Please sit.
Shen gestures to sit in the chair behind Clara. Clara shakes
her head.
CLARA
(Still nervously)
I...I can’t stay long. I’m just
here to drop off this.
Clara puts the envelope onto Shen’s desk. She bows and
leaves. Shen picks up the envelope and opens it. He is
inspecting the contents. He pulls out a note and a couple of
photos.

WEI SHEN
Well look at this...
Shen shuffles through the pictures then starts to read the
note
WEI SHEN
(reading in head)
Hello there Mr. Detective! So I
have a lead on your case but, I
can’t talk about in this note and
in person at your agency. Meet me
in the cafe on Apple street
tomorrow at five o clock. Bring
those pictures with you to.
