“What crops are planted which is common in your
barangay or town? Have you tried planting your own
crops? What are the tools and equipment that you use

FARM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AND THEIR
CLASSIFICATION
“FARM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT”
Farm tools and equipment play a very important role in
every farm practice and operation. Hence, as a learner
you should be able to know, identify, and learn their
uses to become a successful farmer someday.
Classification of farm tools and equipment:
1. Hand Tools are the simplest tools since they are used with your bare
hands in performing farm operation and practices in a small farm or
vegetable garden in the backyard or in school.
a. Cutting tools
- Sickle - Axe
- Knives - Bolo
- Pruning shears
b. Digging tools
- Grub-hoe - Pick mattock
- Hand trowel - Crowbar
- Hand cultivator - Spade
- Shovel - Dibbler or Dibble
c. Lifting tools
- Hand Trowel - Hand Fork
- Shovel - Sprinkler
- Wheelbarrow - Pail or can
d. Leveling tools
- Rake
2. Farm Implements these are accessories which are pulled by working
animals or mounted machineries (hand tractor, tractor) and which are
usually used in the preparation of land. These are usually made of a special
kind of metal.
a. Plow
b. Harrow
c. Rotavator
3. Farm Machinery means all machines and tools that are used in the
production, harvesting, and care of farm products, and includes trailers that
are used to transport agricultural produce or agricultural production
materials between a local place of storage or supply and the farm,
agricultural tractors, threshing machinery, hay-baling machinery, corn
shellers, hammermills, and machinery used in the production of
horticultural, agricultural, and vegetable products.
