Achievements:
The ability to maintain incident and fatality free worksites is a key focus of responsibility for me throughout all of my
positions. I have been able to achieve this by ensuring the achievement of daily, weekly and monthly KPI’s,
influencing key stakeholders to mitigate risk and providing commercial and innovative WHS solutions. Due to this
approach, there have been no fatalities or serious injuries or accidents on a project that I have been based on.
During a longer term contract with Nilsen Resources, a boilermaker, who was also a Safety Representative,
sustained a hand injury due to the incorrect use of a drill. As part of the incident investigation process, I worked
with the individual to identify suitable corrective actions to prevent a re-occurrence of this incident. I developed a
series of workshops across the crew of 170 to create awareness of a drill safety campaign that I championed
across the business. By ensuring that the corrective action was properly implemented into the business, we were
able to influence the safety culture and crew’s approach to drill use.
September 2009 to February 2011
Programmed Construction and Maintenance
HSE Advisor
I was originally employed by South West Group in a temporary contract, which quickly became a permanent
position, before being transferred to Programmed Construction and Maintenance when they bought out the
business.
Working as part of a small team, my responsibilities were to ensure compliance with the HSE Management Plan,
relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures. In addition, I acted as a key stakeholder in the
development of a behavioural safety culture across all the operational sites, which included:
Boddington Gold Mine, WA
ANFO Facility, Brockman, WA
Sino Iron Project, Karratha,W.A
My key areas of responsibility included:
Developing and implementing safety management plan
Conducting safety audits on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and make recommendations for continuous
improvement
Conducting and reviewing risk assessments
Behavioural observations
Conducting daily alcohol breath testing and monitoring fitness for work activities
Developing and facilitating toolbox and prestart meetings
Weekly and monthly KPI reporting and analysis
Investigating incidents, developing and implementing corrective actions
Liaising with commissioning crews for safe implementation of operations(LOTO/SIMOPS)
Achievements:
The business was seeking to increase their safety capabilities and approach to safety and my role was to drive the
safety culture to one of a behavioural, rather than compliance, driven function. By ensuring that not only did I
protect the interests of the organisation, but also made sure the crew were aware that WHS was there to protect
them and make sure they went home safely each night, I was able to influence the safety culture across each site.
I also developed toolbox meetings that were engaging and insightful and created a consistent culture of awareness
by presenting up to date information on a daily basis.

1995 to August 2009
Various Organisations
HSE Advisor / Coordinator
I commenced my employment in the heavy industry sector as an underground mine operator before transferring to
surface operations at Barrick Gold where I also became a member of the ERT Team and took on the role of Safety
Representative. This really ignited my passion for WHS and I gained a formal qualification in 2007 when I
completed my Cert IV OHS. I secured my first OHS and Training Coordinator role with Barminco before moving
onto Crescent Gold. After leaving Crescent Gold, I decided to undertake some contract opportunities to build my
experience and widen my exposure to different operational sites and sectors within the heavy industry field.
Projects and sites worked on include:
Various BHP Shutdowns
Pluto Rock Dumping Project
BHP Whaleback
Shark Bay salt field
Koolan Island
Sunrise Dam
Achievements:
When I joined Crescent Gold they had an ineffective safety management system and the Department of Mines was
threatening closure of the site. My role was to assist in the improvement and implementation of the system, as well
as act as a key influencer in developing a safety awareness culture. By working in partnership with the
organisation and taking a consultative approach, I was able to identify and understand business and commercial
needs and develop systems, policies and procedures that accommodated these, whilst also ensuring that all
legislative requirements were being met or exceeded. I also implemented a culture of awareness by providing daily
access to WHS tools and information and ensuring I took a hands-on operational approach and was highly visible
and approachable on site.
