2. Department of Ophthalmology at Santosh Medical College and Hospital has been providing
specialized care to the patients having eye diseases in the surrounding population and has
also been imparting tertiary care services to complex cases. The Department is headed by
Dr. Sarita Aggarwal who has recently been awarded with the title of, “Distinguished
Ophthal Professor of India’. We aim to provide the state of art and high-quality patient care
which is affordable and accessible to all.
We have well experienced faculties of different field like anterior segment surgeons,
glaucoma,retina and oculoplastics surgeons which are well trained in all microsurgeries.
We train the undergraduates so that they can learn basic ophthalmologic procedures and
ocular emergencies and surgically train the post graduates so that they learn the
microsurgeries.
With increasing advances in healthcare, we offer high end services in terms of all the
specialties as far as the holistic eye care is concerned. The department runs specialized
clinic services for retina, glaucoma, oculoplasty etc. every week.
The Departmental OPD is well-equipped with advancing machines like OCT ,Perimeter
,ND-YAG machine,NCT etc and There is refraction unit in the department where refraction
& contact lens training is given to the PG trainees. . In minor OT , various minor procedures
like lacerated wound suturing, chalazion incision & curettage, suture removal ,syringing
and probing etc. are performed by PG students.
Various wet lab sessions are held on regular basis to train the postgraduates for
microsurgeries.
OT has fine operating microscope which has all the accessories like observers tube,camera
TV unit to train the postgraduates .It is well equipped to perform all ocular surgeries
including phacoemulsification, oculoplastic and glaucoma and retina surgeries.The
Department of Ophthalmology is focused in building skills and quality of patient care as
well as imparting knowledge to the students.
Our operating room is well equipped with ultra-modern phacoemulsification machine with
latest instruments & gadgets. All the major surgeries like topical phacoemulsification
surgeries, oculoplastic surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, squint surgeries,retina surgeries &
traumatic surgeries are being taught to the PG trainees.. We also perform various
diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Faculty & students of the department are dedicated towards providing optimum level of
care for ophthalmic patients.The PG’s participate in many National level conferences and
have won many awards . Trainees are encouraged to participate in research projects .We
look forward to impart the best of knowledge and training in all the students.
