A Better Rich Media Experience & Video Analytics at Arkena with Apache HadoopReda Benzair
As digital consumption of rich media content explodes and with audience expectations at its peak, media providers have been challenged with not only delivering high-quality audience experiences but also the audience analytics in realtime to enable actionable insights for content publishers. Arkena, one of Europe’s leading media services organizations chose to power it’s analytical platform with Hortonworks Data Platform to cost effectively store and analyze over 3.5 terabytes of data per day. Join Hortonworks and Arkena as they share the industry challenges faced, the solution created which enables real-time and better analytics for their customers.
These slides summarise the 0-RTT converters that were proposed in the IETF MPTCP working group to aid the deployment of Multipath TCP. Additional details are available in https://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-bonaventure-mptcp-converters-01.txt

This presentation covers routing security at the Internet Scale in detail with a focus on IRR. It talks about how IRRs work, the challenges in IRR based filtering as well as some of the tools which can be used. It also touches RPKI as well as developments IRR-RPKI integration in the next version of IRR daemon.
Instant chat, videoconferencing, voice calling, file transfer, desktop sharing, and web conferencing are all part of the latest set of unified communication and collaboration (UCC) tools, which can significantly reduce communication and collaboration costs. And your WLAN should understand all these different traffic flows, report on call quality, support high-definition data transfer for video, and more. Hear about best practices for app-level configuration and learn how to get your Aruba WLAN ready for Microsoft Skype for Business, and several other enterprise and commercial grade UCC apps.
Enabling multimedia services on wireless networks is a great idea nowadays, especially given the user demand. But it takes more access points to install, proactive planning for application level performance requirements and multimedia aware RF management functions. Join us to learn about multimedia application behavior and how you can get your wireless network ready.

This guide explains how to implement an Aruba 802.11n wireless network that must provide high-speed access to an auditorium-style room with 500 or more seats. Aruba Networks refers to such networks as high-density wireless LANs (HD WLANs). Lecture halls, hotel ballrooms, and convention centers are common examples of spaces with this requirement. Because the number of concurrent users on an AP is limited, to serve such a large number of devices requires access point (AP) densities well in excess of the usual AP per 2,500 – 5,000 ft2 (225 – 450 m2). Such coverage areas therefore have many special technical design challenges. This validated reference design provides the design principles, capacity planning methods, and physical installation knowledge needed to successfully deploy HD WLANs.
In his 2016 ACE SCHOOL & RUS SYMPOSIUM talk, Bill Nelson explained how NFV is particularly beneficial for those delivering broadband to rural areas. He showed how much rural communication service providers can achieve with the ability to quickly automate system management and move a network environment with a few keystrokes. And he revealed how providers can win new business by partnering with larger competitors or competing with them on price.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
