3. Ecosystem
Is a geographic area where plants, animals, and
other organisms, as well as weather and landscape,
work together to form a bubble of life. Ecosystems
contains biotic or living parts, as well as abiotic factors,
or non living parts.
4. The ecosystem has
estuaries. River water
And sea water meet in the
estuaries. Estuaries have
brackish water is mixture of
salty and fresh water.
Estuaries also known as
“nurseries of the sea”.
Birds, mammals, and fresh
thrive and multiply there.
5. Salinity is the saltiness or amount of
salt dissolved in a body of water.
Tides contribute to an increase
of salinity in the estuary.
6. is the area where land meets the
sea. Intertidal zone are area
where the presence of water
depends on the tides. During high
tide, these are covered with
water. During low tide, the water
diminishes and expose the part of
the sea bed area. Intertidal zones
exists anywhere the ocean meets
the land from steep, rocky ledges
to long sloping sandy beaches and
mudflats that can extend
hundreds of meters.
7. Our environment is under serious threat.
Some threat are natural others are man-made.
Estuaries and Intertidal zones in the environment
are being destroyed.
Like other ecosystem, estuaries and intertidal
zones needs to be protected because of the
presence of organisms that are dependent on their
unique conditions. Our country is rich in different
forms of ecosystem because of the presence of so
many rivers and long shorelines.
8. People are one of the biggest threats in estuaries and intertidal
zones. These human activities include:
pollution
Over population
deforestation
12. What are the ways on how to protect and
conserve our estuaries and intertidal zones?
Why do we need to protect and conserve our
estuaries and intertidal zones?
What is your reaction about those pictures?
What are the possible effects of these to our estuaries and
intertidal zones? and to our health?
Can we stop those harmful human activities? In what way?
How about those natural phenomena, can we stop it?
Why?
13. We can protect and conserve estuaries and
intertidal zones by being informed and getting
involved, taking full responsibility on our own
backyard, practicing good housekeeping and giving
respect and concern to our environment.
People should examine their daily
activities. Their activities may contribute to
problems to environment. Estuaries and
intertidal zones must be protected.
Planting programs and clean-up drive of
the surrounding must be done.
14. Estuaries and intertidal zones are
very important because thousands
of species of birds, mammals, fish
and other wildlife lives here. They
depend on them to live, feed and
reproduce. They also provide us
with a range of resources and
services. Without them, life as we
know it will not be possible.
15. As a grade 5 pupil, in a bond paper, make a
poster in indicating your proposed actions in
protecting and conserving our estuaries and
intertidal zones.
