In 2004, Dr. William Allan Kritsonis was recognized as the Central Washington University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus for the College of Education and Professional Studies. Dr. Kritsonis was nominated by alumni, former students, friends, faculty, and staff. Final selection was made by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Across the country schools face a multitude of challenges related to student discipline and school climate that potentially impact social and academic outcomes for students. Schools are continually changing and the demands that students face daily have increased at a rapid rate. When students are ill-equipped to face such demands, and traditional reactive approaches to discipline are employed, there is an increased likelihood that they will drop out, or will face punitive measures that do not ultimately improve behaviors (Morrissey et al., 2010). Choosing to dropout of high school may cause serious repercussions for students, their communities and families. Although many interventions currently used to decrease the number of dropouts do not have strong evidence to support their effectiveness (Freeman et al., 2015), several studies conducted in the past 20 years indicate that improved outcomes for students graduating high school have occurred through various interventions. School of Life (SOLF) is a intervention offered as an alternative to in school detention and suspensions. Although other dropout prevention programs have been evaluated, SOLF is a time and resource efficient method for targeting dropout and students who have participated in this intervention over the past three years have seen positive results, including higher rates of graduation (Baggaley, 2015). This dissertation studied strategies to increase participation in peer tutoring programs for first-generation college students. The study surveyed first-generation students at a public university about their participation in tutoring programs. Most students reported they did not participate in tutoring. The study examined reasons for non-participation and student opinions on current recruitment strategies. The results could help develop new strategies to improve tutoring program participation and support for first-generation students.

Achievement Goal Orientation across Gender and Ethnicity in a Community College Honors Program
Differences in achievement goal orientation were examined in this survey across gender and ethnicity among high ability students participating in a community college honors program. Students in the program completed the Achievement Goal Questionnaire–Revised. Participants’ mean scores for mastery-approach and mastery-avoidance were higher, but not significant, in comparison to mean scores for both performance-approach and performance-avoidance goal orientations. Results indicate that there were no main effects for gender or ethnicity on achievement goal orientation. Additionally, results suggest that high ability students who choose to participate in a community college honors program are similar in their adoption of achievement goal orientation. Future research may explore differences in goal orientation between high ability students who participate in honors programs and those who choose to opt out of such undergraduate experiences.WPA 2015 Proposal
This proposal examines how college students' coping mechanisms affect their perspectives on social change in career opportunities. The study will explore how optimism, self-handicapping tendencies, and perceptions of career barriers predict students' views of upcoming job prospects during a period of social change. Data will be collected through surveys assessing these factors, as well as demographics, from 111 undergraduate students. Results so far indicate that self-handicapping tendencies and perceived barriers are positively associated with seeing more social change, while optimism is negatively associated. Self-handicapping tendency was found to be the strongest predictor. The findings suggest students could benefit from help reducing self-handicapping and barriers to gain a greater sense of control over their futures.

Achievement Goal Orientation across Gender and Ethnicity in a Community College Honors Program
Differences in achievement goal orientation were examined in this survey across gender and ethnicity among high ability students participating in a community college honors program. Students in the program completed the Achievement Goal Questionnaire–Revised. Participants’ mean scores for mastery-approach and mastery-avoidance were higher, but not significant, in comparison to mean scores for both performance-approach and performance-avoidance goal orientations. Results indicate that there were no main effects for gender or ethnicity on achievement goal orientation. Additionally, results suggest that high ability students who choose to participate in a community college honors program are similar in their adoption of achievement goal orientation. Future research may explore differences in goal orientation between high ability students who participate in honors programs and those who choose to opt out of such undergraduate experiences.WPA 2015 Proposal
This proposal examines how college students' coping mechanisms affect their perspectives on social change in career opportunities. The study will explore how optimism, self-handicapping tendencies, and perceptions of career barriers predict students' views of upcoming job prospects during a period of social change. Data will be collected through surveys assessing these factors, as well as demographics, from 111 undergraduate students. Results so far indicate that self-handicapping tendencies and perceived barriers are positively associated with seeing more social change, while optimism is negatively associated. Self-handicapping tendency was found to be the strongest predictor. The findings suggest students could benefit from help reducing self-handicapping and barriers to gain a greater sense of control over their futures.

Such parameters are combined before understanding whether a high school student is college-ready. Some indicators accurately show students’ college preparedness, while others give a false picture. Leeds & Mokher (2019) showed that using placement tests to assign students to developmental courses results in frequent misplacement. The authors used data from Florida. Abstract
This study examines the students’ satisfaction in higher education in Pakistan. The study focuses on the factors like teachers’
expertise, courses offered, learning environment and classroom facilities. Students’ response measured through an adapted
questionnaire on a 5-point likert scale. The sample size of the study consisted of 350 students belong to different private and
public sector universities. The results of regression analysis reveal that all attributes have significant and positive impact on
students’ satisfaction in higher education though with varying degree of strength. However, teachers’ expertise is the most
influential factor among all the variables, therefore it requires special attention of the policymakers and institutes.

1. Introduction
Education sector is expanding very rapidly all over the world in recent years. Globalization and digital revolution
has created a demand for new and varied disciplines in education. The cost of providing education has gone up
manifold due to better teaching methodologies and learning instruments with rising inflation worldwide. The brisk
increase in the number of institutions in higher education has led to an intense competition. Number of new
institutions has been established and enrolment is also on the rise (Isani & Virk, 2005). Students can get information
easily and instantly due to advancement in technology and globalization. In this competitive environment only those
institutions can excel which are providing quality education and constructive environment to their students, since
these factors can influence their choice of admission. Such factors can satisfy students to their institutions and can
affect their decisions to attend.
Extensive research has been carried out studying the factors which can effect the satisfaction and retention of
students. Aldridge and Rowley (1998) articulate that according to students’ point of view, good quality education
provides better learning opportunities and suggest that the levels of satisfaction or dissatisfaction strongly affect the
student’s success or failure of learning. Deshields et al (2005) state that higher education institutions are focusing on

This study purpose was to explore the perceptions of adjuncts and tenured faculty about the role of the adjunct in higher education. Through purposeful sampling, the lived experiences of nine adjuncts and nine tenured faculty members were considered from three historically black colleges and universities in the southeastern United States. The Critical Social Theory guided this qualitative phenomenological study as it relates to organizational culture. The Critical Social Theory framework illuminates the perceptions of the more powerful players in an organization and the impact of these perceptions on the workplace culture. Six themes that emerged from the analysis of the data: (a) Professional Development and Support, (b) Increased Collaboration, (c)Standard Recruiting and Retention Practices, (d) Shared Responsibilities, (e) Their Perceived Student Perceptions of Adjuncts and Tenured Faculty in the Classroom, and (f) The Relationship between Adjuncts and their University. These themes gave rise to a general description of the perceptions and the workplace culture. The findings from the study yielded several unexpected outcomes.

ARE WE EFFECTIVELY TEACHING TODAY’S COLLEGE STUDENT?
Evidence suggests that twenty first century college students have less aptitude and less interest in academic
learning than their predecessors. This poses a challenge to faculty who are charged with passing
knowledge to the next generation of teachers, scientists, managers and others whose field necessitates a
degree from a college or university. The authors examine this assertion by taking a closer look at how
faculty provide intellectual stimuli to their students, how technology helps or hinders learning, and the
complex relationship between faculty and students. Three broad themes are explored: helping students
understand the higher education experience, keeping students engaged in and out of class, and
continuously assessing for improvement in students’ relationships with those charged with educating them.
Specific recommendations, grounded in research, are made for each area explored. The authors conclude
that making changes in how faculty approach the experiences students have, will significantly improve the
quality of those experiences.

This dissertation examined strategies to increase participation in peer tutoring programs among first-generation college students. A survey and focus groups were conducted with first-generation students at a public university. The results found that the vast majority of respondents were not enrolled in tutoring programs. Female students participated in tutoring programs at a higher rate than male students. When asked about reasons for non-participation, students reported that tutoring was not central to their college experience. The current strategies of promoting tutoring through orientations and materials were viewed as adequate by students. The study aims to provide recommendations to improve tutoring participation among first-generation students.

The Texas prison system began in 1846 with the establishment of a penitentiary in Huntsville. From the 1860s to 1910s, Texas leased out convicts to private companies, leading to management issues and abuse of prisoners. Reforms in the early 20th century abolished convict leasing and expanded state-run prison farms. Throughout the 1900s, the prison population grew dramatically and the system faced numerous legal challenges regarding overcrowding and conditions. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice was created in 1989 to better administer the large prison network.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
