“When time has not been managed effectively, the consequences can be devastating for all participants in a project” (Pickavance.
K, Delay and Disruption in Construction Contracts, 4th Edition 2010).
The effective management of time and the efficient utilisation of resources on construction projects are commercial challenges
that construction professionals from all jurisdictions understand. However, delay, disruption and extensions of time continue to
be major causes of disputes.
This practical workshop addresses the troublesome subjects of delay disruption & extensions of time across a number of sectors
including: building, engineering, oil & gas, power, process and transport.
The workshop approach adopted throughout the course puts theory into practice and provides delegates with examples of how to
better manage the risks presented by delay, disruption and extensions of time. It identifies the risks to a construction project from
a time and money perspective and considers different approaches to managing these risks on construction projects under various
standard and non-standard forms of contract.
The workshop analyses the Contractor’s and the Employer’s obligations with regard to completion and considers the status of a
programme under different contracts. It addresses the importance of giving timely notice in respect of both time and money and
explains the fundamental purpose of extensions of time provisions and what happens when things go wrong.
Thecausesofdelayanddisruptiononconstructionprojectsareconsideredindetailandthevariousmethodologiesfordemonstrating
critical delay and loss of productivity are explained. The controversial subject of concurrent delays and the ownership of terminal
float are also debated with practical examples on real life projects.
The workshop will also provide delegates with practical examples of how disputes may be avoided by careful drafting of contracts
and the incorporation of robust commercial procedures.
