The document discusses different types of seismic waves that are produced during earthquakes. There are three main types of seismic waves: P-waves (primary waves), S-waves (secondary waves), and L-waves (surface waves). P-waves are the first to arrive after an earthquake as they travel fastest, pushing and pulling the ground. S-waves arrive next and cause side-to-side shaking. L-waves cause up and down motion and travel along the surface, causing the most damage. Seismographs are used to detect and measure the different seismic waves from an earthquake.
Waves are generated by wind blowing over the ocean, containing large amounts of energy that can be extracted by wave power devices. One such device is the oscillating water column, which uses the up and down motion of waves in a chamber to force air through a turbine connected to a generator, producing electricity from the renewable and sustainable wave energy without producing waste or requiring fuel. However, wave power is unpredictable and devices must be located appropriately and built to withstand rough conditions.
COLI/BOLI, IOLI/STOLI – The good, the bad, and the uglyTony Roehl
This document discusses corporate-owned life insurance (COLI) and bank-owned life insurance (BOLI), as well as stranger-originated life insurance (STOLI). COLI/BOLI policies are owned by corporations/banks to insure key employees. Recent legal issues challenged the tax benefits and whether an insurable interest existed. STOLI involves purchasing life insurance with no intent to retain it, violating insurable interest laws. STOLI harms insurers through misrepresentations and adverse lapse rates. Legislation aims to prevent STOLI through prohibiting arrangements where a third party will receive the policy.

1) WAMI is a research project at MIT that allows voice recognition and audio recording capabilities to be added to web applications through a free web service API.
2) With WAMI, audio captured through a user's microphone is streamed to WAMI servers for processing in real-time, and the structured data of what was said is sent to the web application via JavaScript.
3) The founder provides examples of how WAMI can be implemented in a web app to allow voice control through JavaScript, including defining a grammar and receiving recognition results to trigger actions in the application.
Whereas in the spring of 2010 only about a quarter of the top-100 TV advertisers were identified as having an official (German-language) Facebook presence, just one year later it was evident that the world's largest social network had attracted a far greater proportion of those companies. Working with the same selection method, in April 2011 we identified that half (75) of the companies and brands serving as our basis had official fan pages, of which almost half (30) were less than a year old. This was based on the top 150 TV advertising spenders in the first quarter of the year.
Key issues for the second Trend Report:
- Review and improvement of the benchmarks identified in 2010:
- Re-evaluation of the different strategic patterns in the use of Facebook as a communication channel.
- Review of the following hypotheses:
1. Fan pages for brands and companies show declining interaction rates in 2011.
2. The typology of communication strategies displays a shift towards dialogue-oriented forms.
3. The differences in the interaction rates are industry- and size-specific.
4. Brands communicate their Facebook presence more frequently in other communications channels such as TV commercials and corporate web sites than was the case a year ago.
This document discusses several topics including:
1. Sergey Brin crediting his mentor Rajeev Motwani who died in a swimming pool accident.
2. Details about the fictional band Porcupine Tree created as a joke by Steven Wilson, including fabricated band members and backstories.
3. Evidence that cannabis was consumed as far back as 3000 BC and was used religiously by various groups throughout history.
4. The origins of the names for avocados, with the Aztecs calling it "ahucatl" meaning testicle and it also being called alligator pear due to its skin resemblance.
5. Jerry Robinson bringing the trademark playing card of the Joker
This document provides a history and overview of Linux and GNU/Linux distributions. This document summarizes Facebook's approach to adaptive static resource optimization. It describes how Facebook separates static resource declaration from delivery to allow for global optimization based on usage patterns. A packager analyzes usage logs offline to determine optimal packages that balance bandwidth and latency costs. This adaptive approach allows packaging to scale with development and usage changes over time while improving page performance.
Conditional sentences are composed of two clauses: a condition clause introduced by "if" and a consequence clause. There are three main types of conditional patterns: the first conditional expresses probable conditions using present tense in the if-clause and future tense in the consequence clause. The second conditional expresses improbable conditions using past tense in the if-clause and "would/should/could" verbs in the consequence clause. The third conditional expresses imaginary conditions not seen in the present using past tense in both clauses.

Deposition is the process by which eroded material is deposited elsewhere. As seen in the pictures, deposition often occurs close to where erosion took place, such as material from slumping or creeping slowly moving down a hill under gravity. Deposition forms features like deltas at the mouths of rivers, where sediment is dropped as the fast-moving water slows upon reaching the sea. Over long periods of time, the repetitive natural cycles of weathering, erosion and deposition can dramatically transform entire landscapes through processes like cave formation and glacial deposition.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
How to Manage Reception Report in Odoo 17Celine George
A business may deal with both sales and purchases occasionally. They buy things from vendors and then sell them to their customers. Such dealings can be confusing at times. Because multiple clients may inquire about the same product at the same time, after purchasing those products, customers must be assigned to them. Odoo has a tool called Reception Report that can be used to complete this assignment. By enabling this, a reception report comes automatically after confirming a receipt, from which we can assign products to orders.
