This document discusses spiritual warfare and the devil. It provides several Bible verses about not giving the devil a foothold by controlling anger, not accusing others, and how Jesus came to destroy the devil's work. God will crush Satan under our feet. The devil is like a roaring lion looking to devour people. But believers are on God's side and Jesus has conquered sin and death through his victory.
July 21 2019 - Sunday service - Overcoming Stress for your Good HealthCatherine Lirio
1) Our faith in Jesus as the Son of God allows us to overcome the troubles of this world. Jesus has already overcome the world and promises his followers peace.
2) Stress is the body's reaction to threatening situations, causing physiological changes that prepare us to fight or flee. There are three main types of stress: acute stress from immediate threats, episodic acute stress from constantly chaotic lives, and chronic stress from long-term stressors.
3) Ways to overcome stress include praying to God, taking rest in God's presence, having a positive outlook that God is in control and has a plan, asking God for wisdom, forgiving others, and applying scripture like 2 Chronicles 7:14 when stress
Peter’s Pathway out of Pain into ProvidenceLouis Kotze
The document outlines a 4-step process for turning a test into a testimony based on 1 Peter 5:6-11. The steps are: 1) Humble yourself under God's plan; 2) Cast your anxieties on God because he cares for you; 3) Resist the devil who seeks to devour you, being firm in your faith; 4) God will establish you after your suffering. The process concludes with praising God for his sovereignty and giving thanks in faith.
The document discusses the upsides and downsides of anger. On the one hand, anger can be a God-given energy to help solve problems when motivated by defending principles rather than oneself. On the other hand, human anger does not produce righteousness and can stem from selfishness, distort the truth, linger too long, and attack people rather than problems. The document then provides advice on overcoming anger through confession, seeing God in tests, leaving revenge to God, practicing gentleness, and problem-solving communication.

1) The Bible passages discuss having faith in Jesus as the Son of God in order to overcome the world and its troubles.
2) Stress is the body's reaction to harmful or threatening situations, causing physiological changes that prepare it to fight or flee. There are three main types of stress: acute, episodic acute, and chronic stress.
3) To overcome stress, the document recommends talking to God in prayer, asking for wisdom, taking rest in God's presence, having a positive outlook that God is in control, forgiving others, and applying scripture about humbling oneself and turning from wicked ways.
This document summarizes a passage from the book of John describing Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath. It describes how Jesus heals a man who had been ill for 38 years at the pool of Bethesda. Religious leaders criticize Jesus for violating the Sabbath by commanding the man to carry his mat. The document contrasts the "letter of the law" approach of the religious leaders with Jesus' embodiment of the "spirit of the law" in showing compassion.
The document discusses biblical passages from Ephesians that provide guidance on replacing negative behaviors with positive ones. It outlines several patterns: stop lying and speak truthfully, stop expressing anger and begin reconciling, stop stealing and begin working and giving, stop rotten talk and begin helpful talk, and stop malice and begin kindness. For each pattern, it identifies what to stop and start doing, citing relevant verses from Ephesians and other books of the Bible. The overall message is about living a Christian life guided by biblical principles.
Satan is real and seeks to destroy people by waging war against them using spiritual forces of evil, though many think he is just symbolic. To withstand Satan's attacks, believers must be strong in God's strength by putting on the full armor of God, which is invisible to the physical eye but real in the spiritual realm and will determine how well one can deal with temptations from the devil. The document calls readers to confront any areas of their lives that have been left open to Satan's influence.

This document discusses the importance of patience and obedience through faith based on several biblical passages. It references Romans 1:5 about bringing obedience through faith. It also discusses passages from Psalms, James, and Isaiah about waiting on God, patience producing perseverance, and the dangers of acting without God's counsel. The document contrasts the concepts of patience and impatience. It examines the story of Abraham in Genesis 16 and quotes Jesus about possessing one's soul through patience.
1. Overcoming impatience involves thinking rightly by focusing thoughts on God and his word, demolishing wrong arguments, and allowing the Holy Spirit to control one's mind.
2. It means waiting patiently for God's timing, showing understanding of others' mistakes, and avoiding foolish irritations and quarrelling.
3. Enduring suffering with God's grace also helps overcome impatience. Having patience involves trusting God during difficulties rather than growing angry or impatient.
The document discusses focusing one's thoughts on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise as described in Philippians 4:8-9. It encourages keeping one's mind on positive things and affirming virtues in others. It also talks about cultivating good thoughts and recognizing negative thoughts to refuse them. The overall message is about controlling one's thought life and fixing one's mind on uplifting things.
The poem is a prayer by the speaker to God asking God to break down barriers in his heart and remake him. He acknowledges that God is knocking but he has yet to let God in. He asks God to overthrow and bend him so that he may rise up and stand with God. Though he tries to admit God, he finds no way in due to his own failings and weaknesses. He loves God but is bound to God's enemy. He asks God to divorce and untie him from this enemy so that God may imprison and ravish him, for only then will he be free and chaste.
The document provides guidance on both giving and receiving correction. It emphasizes the importance of being open to correction, determining a wise response, and receiving correction humbly and with a heavenly mindset. When giving correction, it advises ensuring the issue belongs to the other person, having an attitude of humility, gentleness and love, and ensuring the goal is ministry over personal desires.
Responding to negative emotions or feelings in a Biblical way. Intended to be accompanied with verbal presentation, but still comprehensible. A sketch of a prelude to good Mental Health.
April 23 2017 - Sunday Message -Overcoming disobedienceCatherine Lirio
The document contains several Bible passages about obedience and disobedience. It discusses how Jesus learned obedience through suffering and was the source of salvation for all who obey him. It encourages overcoming disobedience by submitting one's will to God, speaking verses about God's blessings for obedience, loving God passionately, and being filled with the Spirit. The conclusion states that blessings are released every time one overcomes disobedience.
This document discusses key passages from Hebrews 13:7 and 17 regarding remembering and obeying leaders. It encourages remembering past leaders who spoke God's word and considering how their faithful conduct resulted in suffering, including imprisonment and martyrdom. It instructs to obey current leaders who keep watch over souls and will give an account to God, in a way that brings joy rather than grief.
The document discusses the attitude of gratitude exhibited by Apostle Paul even while facing difficult circumstances of imprisonment.
1) Paul maintained an attitude of always rejoicing in the Lord, being gentle and patient with others, and relying on God through prayer even in times of uncertainty or discomfort.
2) His mind was focused on godly thoughts and excelling in virtues.
3) By putting God's word into practice, Paul experienced the peace of God guarding his heart and mind, resulting in a peaceful life regardless of circumstances.
This document discusses the concept of double mindedness as described in James 1:5-8. It defines double mindedness as being uncertain about decisions and going back and forth between options without making a choice. It then provides five ways to overcome double mindedness: 1) rely on God's word for guidance, 2) don't test God with "fleece" tests, 3) remember that God can redeem mistakes, 4) make a decision and commit to it, and 5) have faith even if the choice looks bad initially. The conclusion reiterates that readers should be sure their lives are right with God.

The parable tells the story of an unjust judge who refuses to grant justice to a widow. Though he does not fear God or care about people, the widow keeps bothering him with her pleas. Eventually, the judge relents just to get rid of her. The lessons are to always pray and not give up, that believers have greater access to God than the widow did to the judge, and that God is righteous unlike the unjust judge.
Our little Church is using a Chronological Bible Reading Schedule by Skip Andrews. It can be found here: http://www.churchofchristduluthga.org/
Each Sunday a lesson is given from some of that week's reading. This lesson covers Jan 6-12.
This document contains rules and points about growing in love and maturity within the body of Christ. It discusses 17 rules for practicing love, including being devoted to others like family, deferring to others, and viewing others as you want to be viewed. It also contains points about responding to others as you would God, rejoicing to avoid jealousy, and using prayer to support your perspective. The document provides definitions and discusses submitting to authority in the church, government, and home according to Scripture.
The document warns against "playing God" by making plans that exclude God and ignore limitations. It discusses four rules that characterize a "Homo-Deus mindset" of pursuing one's own benefits through time, location, duration and profit without acknowledging God. The passage advises committing plans to God, whose purpose prevails, and not pursuing money as an end in itself or thinking one can secure their own future. It challenges readers to acknowledge God in planning through maintaining priorities, doing spiritual, relational and internal checks, and recognizing that only God gives the ability to produce wealth.

Relationship between Faith and Works (2of2)huntdoug
The document discusses the relationship between faith and works based on passages from the books of James and Romans. It argues that works are the animating principle of vital faith and that faith without works is dead. Good works justify our faith before God and men and show our friendship with God. While salvation comes by grace through faith alone, an absence of good works implies an absence of saving faith. The challenge is to maintain a dynamic faith through obedience to God's word.
The document discusses taming the tongue and its influence. It states that the tongue is a small part of the body but can have great influence, setting forests and lives ablaze with its words. While necessary for communication, the tongue can be restless and evil, blessing God one moment and cursing people the next. The document encourages controlling speech and using words for good, not evil, as what comes from the heart ultimately pollutes.
This document provides instructions for using Google Earth to create placemarks and add additional information to them. It outlines the steps to take placemarks and drag them into a custom folder, then gives directions to add a placemark for Oldfield Middle School as an example. It further explains how to add a second placemark with a different symbol, and attach an image and website link to provide more details about the location.
The document outlines a project for students to review areas of weakness before taking the Earth Science Regents Exam. Students will first take a pre-assessment to identify weak areas and a learning strategies survey to determine their preferred learning style. They will then choose a review project from different options that addresses their learning style, such as creating a review game, illustrated book, or activity. Finally, students will take a post-assessment quiz to evaluate the effectiveness of their project.
The document discusses the topic of wisdom found in the book of James. It contrasts two types of wisdom - one that is "from above" and one that is "earthly, natural, demonic." True wisdom from God is described as pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, while the other leads to disorder and evil. The document examines different passages in James and Proverbs to understand the source, behavior and motives associated with these two forms of wisdom.
The document discusses several studies related to developmental psychology and attachments:
- Ainsworth & Bell (1971) studied individual differences in infant attachments through observations of their reactions in various situations. They identified secure and insecure attachment types.
- Van Ijzedoorn & Kroonenberg (1988) conducted a meta-analysis finding variations in attachment types across cultures but greater variation within cultures.
- Hodges & Tizard (1989) investigated the effects of privation by comparing children who had been in care to a control group, finding some effects were reversible through adoption.
The document discusses anger and provides principles for controlling anger. It states that anger is natural but can lead to sin if not properly managed. It recommends admitting when one is angry, understanding the root causes of anger such as feeling hurt or frustrated, and resolving anger quickly before it turns to bitterness. It also suggests controlling anger by stopping to think before speaking, looking at situations from God's perspective, and listening to others rather than reacting in anger. The document provides biblical sources to back up its discussion of anger and principles for overcoming it.
October 21, 2018- Sunday Service - Experiencing God Unit 7 - The Crisis of B...Catherine Lirio
This document discusses overcoming a "crisis of belief" through faith in God. It recommends 7 steps: 1) Resolve to live by faith, not sight. 2) Refuse lies and doubts through God's word. 3) Recite faith-building scriptures. 4) Review God's past miracles. 5) Read biographies of faithful people. 6) Worship through praise songs. 7) Seek prayer and counsel from mentors. The overall message is that decisive action through faith can overcome times of spiritual doubt.
This document discusses the topic of bitterness and forgiveness. It begins by summarizing Ephesians 4:25-32, which lists commands such as speaking truthfully, not letting anger lead to sin, avoiding theft and unwholesome talk. It then discusses characteristics of bitter people and five ways people become bitter. The document stresses that when sinned against, the only choices are bitterness or forgiveness. It provides six commands for bitter believers, such as watching gossip and emotions. It describes the cycle of bitterness and how to dig up the root through forgiveness. Finally, it outlines what forgiveness is and is not. The overarching message is that believers must forgive others as God in Christ forgave them.
The document provides Bible verses to help with various problems and feelings, organized by topic. It offers promises and guidance for when one feels discouraged, worried, lonely, depressed, etc. The verses offer comfort and reassurance, promising that God will strengthen, help, and be with the reader through all troubles.
The document provides information about an upcoming church service, including the title of tonight's sermon "The Story of Two Josephs". It then shares a multi-paragraph Bible passage about Jonah and God's response to Jonah's anger. Following this, it outlines steps to help move out of the "danger zone" of anger, including controlling it, talking it out, acting on it, and ending anger. It closes by emphasizing that every minute spent angry is a loss of happiness and encourages finding peace instead.
July 24 2016 Sunday Message- WARFARE PRAYER- CHRISTIANS MUST OVERCOME THESE...Catherine Lirio
This document discusses how Christians can overcome evil spirits and spiritual attacks. It identifies 7 evil spirits that commonly attack, including lies, deception, anger, discouragement, unbelief, pride, and fear. It then presents 5 powerful weapons Christians can use to resist the devil: the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, declaring God's word, praise and worship, and prayer and fasting. The conclusion exhorts readers to use these weapons, guided by the Holy Spirit, to overcome. Key verses encourage believers not to be afraid or discouraged because the battle belongs to God. Faith in God enables Christians to be more than conquerors.
The document discusses anger, its purpose and dangers. It notes that while anger can be useful in moderation, uncontrolled anger often leads to harm. It provides biblical examples of uncontrolled anger resulting in the first murder and advises readers to check if their anger has become excessive. The document offers tips for overcoming anger such as taking time out, recognizing one's responsibility, forgiving others, and asking God for help to control one's anger.
This document discusses disagreements in couples and provides biblical verses about forgiveness. It notes that disagreements are normal but should not escalate out of control. Couples are encouraged to communicate respectfully when they disagree and understand that it is okay to agree to disagree. Several Bible passages are cited that discuss forgiveness, not holding grudges, controlling anger, and having friends who can provide support during difficult times. The document challenges couples to discuss conflicts from fictional TV or movie couples and how the arguments could have been avoided.
The document discusses forgiveness and bitterness. It begins by summarizing Ephesians 4:25-32 about speaking the truth, controlling anger, not sinning, being kind, and forgiving others. It then tells the story of Naomi, who became bitter after tragedy and asked to be called Mara. The document outlines characteristics of bitter people and ways people become bitter. It provides commands for bitter believers to watch their gossip, emotions, time, enemies, hands, and mouth. The cycle of bitterness is described along with how to build forgiveness by canceling debts, removing others' control, and leaving justice to God. Forgiveness is defined as an ongoing process of wanting good for offenders.
This document discusses how to walk in unity according to Ephesians 4:21-32. It summarizes the key points from each verse, explaining that to walk in unity, we must put away the old self and adopt a new lifestyle based on righteousness. Specifically, we must speak truth, not dwell in anger, avoid theft and corrupt speech, and instead be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving as God forgave us. Meditating on these scriptures can help us transform our lives and walk in harmony with others.
The document is a collection of Bible verses and passages about grumbling and complaining. It discusses how grumbling prevents spiritual growth and obedience to God. It leads to negative consequences for individuals and communities. The document encourages replacing grumbling with thankful attitudes by focusing on God's promises and eternal plans. It provides tips on evaluating personal habits of complaining and replacing those thoughts with ones that honor God.
In Part-4 of this series, we discuss four important spiritual disciplines that we must maintain to stay emotionally whole:(1)Renouncing lies with the truth of The Word, (2)Speak blessing, cancel curses, (3)Guard against negative emotions and (4)Practice the power of forgiveness.

The document discusses reconciling differences and resolving conflicts in relationships. It notes that unmet expectations and self-centeredness can be root causes of conflicts. To resolve conflicts, it recommends not reacting but acting, focusing on the good rather than the bad, talking instead of walking away when angry, and remembering that partners are on the same team. Reconciliation involves admitting causes of conflict, asking forgiveness, and affirming love for one another. Being humble, intimate, transparent, avoiding difficult discussions when tired, and being aware of moods can help avoid conflicts. The document is from a sermon presented at Faithworks Christian Church Global in February 2016.
The document discusses anger from multiple perspectives. It begins with a poem that depicts anger as a predatory animal hunting and killing prey. It then considers how anger is visualized and what causes people to lash out. While people have instincts and selfish natures, the document asserts that spiritual hunger is the true cause of anger. It discusses how Jesus satisfies spiritual hunger and how people can control anger through patience, forgiveness, wisdom, peace, and love by overcoming instinct.
This document contains a summary of Philippians 2:5-11 which discusses having the mind of Christ. It describes how Christ, though divine, humbled himself by taking human form and obediently dying on the cross. God exalted Christ and gave him a name above all other names, so that all will acknowledge Jesus as Lord. The rest of the document encourages Christians to have the mind of Christ by being filled with the Holy Spirit. It says the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, etc. - will be manifested when the mind is controlled by the Spirit rather than earthly desires. Believers are urged to develop a close relationship with the Holy Spirit by talking to him constantly

2) Cain then murdered Abel out of jealousy. God cursed Cain to become a wanderer and the land would no longer yield crops for him.
3) The document warns that those who practice sin are of the devil, and people must avoid sin and fleeing from God like Cain did in order to receive God's protection and blessings.
Similar to Dealing With Difficult Emotions (part 1) (20)
The document discusses envy of the rich and patience in the face of suffering. It warns that earthly wealth is temporary and will corrode. The unrighteous rich are guilty of hoarding wealth, cheating workers, selfish living, and taking advantage of others. Believers are called to patiently await Christ's return without complaining or grumbling against each other, as illustrated by the example of Job's perseverance.
James (series 9): How to Quit Quarreling and Start Lovinghuntdoug
The document summarizes how to avoid quarrels by addressing their source and providing solutions. It discusses that quarrels stem from wrong desires within us like frustrated desire and improper prayer. These wrong desires are sourced in a love for the world and its value system rather than God. The solutions are to submit to God, resist the devil, come near to God, and humble yourself before Him. This involves adopting God's value system over the world's and applying His remedies.
The document describes Saul's persecution of early Christians and his dramatic conversion experience on the road to Damascus, where Jesus appeared to him and called him to spread the gospel. It then summarizes Paul's discussion with Epicurean and Stoic philosophers in Athens, where he established common ground by referencing their altar to an unknown god, challenged their views of God, and called them to repent and turn to Jesus, who was resurrected, proving him to be the divine Savior. A few people became believers, including Dionysius.
The document discusses how believers can grow through trials rather than just endure them. It says to 1) cultivate a positive attitude toward trials, 2) understand that God uses trials to develop endurance, 3) cooperate with God in allowing trials to shape character, and 4) pray for wisdom to deal with trials. The promise for those who endure trials correctly is genuine happiness in this life and an abundant life, symbolized by a crown, in the next.
The document provides an overview of the book of James, including:
- James was Jesus' brother who wrote the book to persecuted Jewish Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire.
- It is unique as the first New Testament book written and its focus on personal application of faith.
- The central message is that faith in God should result in behavior that harmonizes with God's will, and that the life of faith is one of both peril and power over worldly influences.
James 6: Relationship between Faith & Workshuntdoug
The document discusses different views on the relationship between faith and works as it relates to salvation. It presents three views: the Arminian view which holds that saving faith requires good works or it is not true faith and can lead to loss of salvation; the Reformed view which argues that genuine faith inevitably produces good works and lack of works means lack of true faith; and a mediating view which allows for lack of connection between faith and works but sees lack of good works as lack of living faith that can lead to discipline but not loss of salvation.
