Questo è il cuore di Antonio D’Erasmo, è qui che cominciano le riflessioni.
Cambiamenti sempre più veloci e inaspettati interessano l’Umanità.

La volontà di Antonio D’Erasmo, designer e owner dell’omonima griffe,
è mettere su carta la sua riflessione sul Mondo.
Il punto della situazione, con cadenza trimestrale, si chiama D’E3 ed è
un riferimento di Design, Art and Culture dedicato a chi vuole sentirsi
parte dei cambiamenti in atto, e non semplice spettatore.
Una storia per ogni stile si snoda inizialmente tra legni, lacche,
vernici orientali e antiquariato coloniale per approdare al design
contemporaneo dalle ampie vedute.
Le ambientazioni illustrate regalano un nuovo respiro a tutti gli ambienti
domestici: living room, camere da letto, bagni, giardini e terrazze.
Pagina dopo pagina nuovi profumi, nuove sfumature e sistemazioni ideali
per esterni e interni. Si parte dall'instancabile ricerca di oggetti, arredi
e di opere d'arte selezionati in tutto il mondo.

The intention of Antonio D’Erasmo,
designer and owner of the name
label, is to put his philosophy of the
world into practice.
This is the reasoning behind D’E3,
a quarterly reference guide to
Design, Art and Culture aimed at
anyone who wants to feel part of
the ongoing changes, and not be a
mere spectator.
Each style has its own story.
From the objects in wood, the
lacquers, the oriental colours and
colonial antiques to all-embracing
contemporary design.
The spaces shown in the illustra-
tions offer a new feel to all the
areas of the home: the living room,
the bedrooms, bathrooms, gardens
and terraces.
Page after page brings new
perfumes, new nuances and ideal
arrangements for exteriors and
interiors. The starting point is the
tireless search for objects,
furniture, fittings and works of art
from around the world.
The reader is led on an authentic

Il “London Style” è la conferma del ruolo giocato da una metropoli testimone
delle più grandi rivoluzioni del costume nella seconda metà del ’900.
Il turbolento mondo del pop londinese ha scatenato terremoti del gusto e
ribellioni generazionali. Oggi Londra è il luogo dove nasce ciò che spesso
diviene costume. Non è un caso che la stella eclettica per eccellenza,
David Bowie, sia originaria della capitale del Regno Unito.
Il “Victoria and Albert Museum” ha preparato per lui “David Bowie is…”,
la prima grande retrospettiva del fenomeno Bowie raccontata attraverso
abiti, musica e immagini del mondo del pop londinese. L’occasione è
“The Next Day”, il suo ultimo album uscito il 12 marzo scorso dopo 10 anni
di silenzio. La copertina dell’album è opera del designer inglese Jonathan
Barnbrook. L’immagine è quella dello storico album del 1976 “Herpes”
che viene oscurata da un grande quadrato bianco nel quale campeggia
la scritta “The Next Day”. Un nome, una “resurrezione”.

The return that you don’t expect
The “London Style” is the confirmation of the role played by a
city that has witnessed the greatest changes in lifestyle in the
second half of the twentieth century. The world of London pop
has brought about tumultuous changes in taste and led to
generational upheavals.
Today London is the starting point for what later often
becomes a cultural way of life. It is no mere chance that the
eclectic star par excellence, David Bowie, comes from the
capital of the United Kingdom.
The exhibition “David Bowie is…” has been put on by the
Victoria and Albert Museum and is the first great retrospecti-
ve of the Bowie phenomenon related through the clothes,
music and images of the world of London pop. The occasion is
‘The Next Day’, Bowie’s latest album that came out on the 12th
March after ten years of silence. The cover of the album is
the work of the English designer Jonathan Barnbrook.
The image is taken from the classic album of 1976 ‘Herpes’
and obscured by a large white square with the words
“The Next Day”. A name, a ‘resurrection’.

Around the world, searching for materials and details. Notes from a travel journal create
interior decorations bearing the mark of distant cultures.
But behind the mix of apparently haphazardly superimposed pieces
lies a perfect balance.

di equilibrio. Soppesare gli estremi, trovare
un compromesso piacevole, così come
fa il corpo alla ricerca della stabilità.
Un giocoliere del design deve affrontare
panorami impensabili, così come fece
Philippe Petit nel 1974. In “Toccare le
nuvole” (2009, edizioni TEA) il funambolo
racconta la sua danza su un filo tra
i due tetti delle Torri Gemelle.
Il misantropo autore parla di sé
e della sua avversità verso gli uomini,
sentimento che l’ha portato a compiere
imprese di questo tipo. L’equilibrio interiore
passa anche dalla capacità di trovare
sintonia con l'ambiente circostante.

question of balance. Balancing
extremes, finding an agreeable
compromise, in the same way that the
body seeks stability.
Someone juggling with design has to
confront unimaginable circumstances,
in the same way that Philippe Petit did
in 1974. In ‘Touching the Clouds’
(2009, TEA edition), the tightrope
walker talks about his dance on a wire
stretched between the two roofs of the
Twin Towers.
The misanthropic author talks about
himself and his aversion towards
people, a sentiment that led him to
carry out enterprises of this sort.
Inner balance also entails the ability to
be in harmony with the immediate
environment.

10. Mark Rothko (Marcus Rothkowitz) nasce a Dvinsk, in Russia,
il 25 settembre 1903. Nel 1913 si stabilisce con la famiglia a Portland,
nell'Oregon. Grazie ad una borsa di studio, frequenta la Yale University
a New Haven dal 1921 al 1923, anno in cui abbandona l'Università e si
trasferisce a New York; dal 1925 studia con Max Weber all'Art
Students League. Nel 1928 per la prima volta espone in una collettiva
alle “Opportunity Galleries” di New York. Nei primi anni '30 instaura
una profonda amicizia con Milton Avery e Adolph Gottlieb.
Il 1933 è l’anno della sua prima mostra personale al “Portland Art Museum”
e anche alla “Contemporary Arts Gallery” di New York. Nel 1935 partecipa
alla fondazione del gruppo “The Ten”, composto da artisti di tendenza
astrattista ed espressionista che si è esibito fino al 1940. Dal 1936 al 1937
realizza dipinti su cavalletto per il WPA (Works Progress Administration
Federal Art Project). Nel 1936 conosce Barnett Newman. All'inizio degli
anni '40 lavora strettamente con Gottlieb, sviluppando uno stile pittorico dal
contenuto mitologico: semplici figure senza rilievo e linguaggio figurativo
derivato dall'arte primitiva. Intorno al 1945 acquisisce tecniche e immagini
tipiche del Surrealismo. Nel 1945 Peggy Guggenheim gli dedica una perso-
nale ad “Art of This Century” di New York.
Nel 1947 e nel 1949 insegna alla “California School of Fine Arts” di San
Francisco. Insieme a William Baziotes, David Hare e Robert
Motherwell, fonda nel 1948 a New York, “The Subjects of The Artist”,

Mark Rothko was born Marcus Rothkowitz
on September 25, 1903, in Dvinsk, Russia.
In 1913 his family left Russia and settled in
Portland, Oregon. Rothko attended Yale
University, New Haven, on a scholarship
from 1921 to 1923. He left Yale prematurely
and moved to New York. In 1925 he studied
under Max Weber at the Art Students
League. He participated in his first group
exhibition at the Opportunity Galleries, New
York, in 1928. During the early 1930s
Rothko became a close friend of Milton
Avery and Adolph Gottlieb. His first solo
show took place at the Portland Art
Museum, Oregon, in 1933.
Rothko’s first solo exhibition in New York
was held at the Contemporary Arts Gallery
in 1933. In 1935, together with William
Baziotes, Gottlieb, and others, Rothko founded
the Ten, a group of artists sympathetic to
abstraction and expressionism that exhibited
until 1940. He executed easel paintings for
the Works Progress Administration Federal
Art Project from 1936 to 1937. By 1936
Rothko knew Barnett Newman. In the early
1940s he worked closely with Gottlieb,
developing a painting style with mythological
content, simple flat shapes, and imagery
inspired by so-called primitive art. By
mid-decade his work incorporated Surrealist
techniques and images. Peggy Guggenheim
gave Rothko a solo show at Art of This
Century, New York, in 1945.
In 1947 and 1949 Rothko taught at the
California School of Fine Arts, San
Francisco, where Clyfford Still was a fellow
instructor. With Baziotes, David Hare, and
Robert Motherwell, Rothko founded the
short-lived school Subjects of the Artist, New
York, in 1948. The late 1940s and early
1950s saw the emergence of Rothko’s
mature style, in which frontal, luminous
rectangles seem to hover on the canvas
surface. In 1958 the artist began his first
commission, monumental paintings for the
Four Seasons Restaurant, New York. The
Museum of Modern Art, New York, gave
Rothko an important solo exhibition in 1961.
He completed murals for Harvard Universi-
ty, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1962 and
in 1964 accepted a mural commission for an
interdenominational chapel in Houston.
Rothko committed suicide on February 25,
1970, in his New York studio. A year later
the Rothko Chapel in Houston was dedicated,
and in 1978, the Guggenheim Museum
organized a major retrospective.

Green makes a comeback, and spring brings with it the need to make use of the outdoor spaces for living in.
Ecological fibres, oversize forms, new materials and colour in particular lend freshness to outdoor design.
This year is seeing the rediscovery of nature and respect for green areas. The colour for 2013 has been
decreed, as always, by Pantone, the guru of colour schemes, and in January, the colour chosen was Emerald
17-5641, otherwise emerald green. What better occasion than this to rethink the outdoor spaces? The luminosity
and brilliance of this colour provide the background for the hues of the flowers as well as for a multicoloured
terrazzo. A divan suspended against a green background, a good book and the scents of spring.
