Background
• DI has had a local office in New York (NY) for more than 6 years,
helping DI members to successfully enter the US market
• NY is set to invest $20bn over the coming years in climate adaptation
solutions and has adopted one of the most ambitious laws on green
buildings, creating tremendous momentum for cleantech solutions
• In May 2013, a delegation chaired by DI set out to investigate the
market potential for Danish cleantech solutions in NY. The message
from the New York market confirmed that:
• NY is already feeling the effects of climate change as extreme weather and
rising water levels threatens NY’s sustainablity  a sense of urgency has
gripped the City
• Demand for climate adaptation solutions has never been higher
• The interest for integrated Danish solutions is high

What is DCC in NY?
Concept

• DCC will be a local hub for Danish cleantech in NY that
will generate business for Danish cleantech companies
through a joint sales and promotion platform

Name

• The project will be known as the ”Danish Cleantech
Cluster in New York” (DCC in NY)

Purpose

• DCC will support the commercialization of Danish
cleantech in NY and increase exports by extensively
promoting Danish technologies

Mode of
Collaboration

• A US-Danish public-private partnership, involving Danish
cleantech companies as well as relevant public and
private stakeholders in both countries

Concept and Business Model
• The DCC office in NY will be the focal
point for all NY-DK cleantech related
activities – a ”Single Point of Entry”
• DCC will be run from DI’s local office in NY
• A DCC employee will be permanently
stationed at DI’s NY-office to secure
continued project development
• A DEMO site will be set up in NY to
showcase Danish solutions, where DCC
will facilitate workshops, events, and
matchmaking with local players
• DCC will be co-financed by public and
private partners that share the same
interest in bringing innovative cleantech
solutions to the NY area

Danish Cleantech Cluster in New York Nov. ’13 Background • DI has had a local office in New York (NY) for more than 6 years, helping DI members to successfully enter the US market • NY is set to invest $20bn over the coming years in climate adaptation solutions and has adopted one of the most ambitious laws on green buildings, creating tremendous momentum for cleantech solutions • In May 2013, a delegation chaired by DI set out to investigate the market potential for Danish cleantech solutions in NY. The message from the New York market confirmed that: • NY is already feeling the effects of climate change as extreme weather and rising water levels threatens NY’s sustainablity  a sense of urgency has gripped the City • Demand for climate adaptation solutions has never been higher • The interest for integrated Danish solutions is high 2

Danish Cleantech Cluster in New York Nov. ’13 Challenges for Danish Companies  Lack of local network and access to business opportunities  Finding the right local partner  Poor knowledge of local regulations, public procurement procedures, and certification requirements  Difficult to find good market information and lack of operational knowledge on ”doing business in” NY  NY market lacks knowledge of Danish technologies and companies  Physical presence is alpha omega, but start-up costs in NY are high Many Danish companies are not seizing the business opportunities in NY 3

Concept • DCC will be a local hub for Danish cleantech in NY that will generate business for Danish cleantech companies through a joint sales and promotion platform Name • The project will be known as the ”Danish Cleantech Cluster in New York” (DCC in NY) Purpose • DCC will support the commercialization of Danish cleantech in NY and increase exports by extensively promoting Danish technologies Mode of Collaboration • A US-Danish public-private partnership, involving Danish cleantech companies as well as relevant public and private stakeholders in both countries 5

Danish Cleantech Cluster in New York Nov. ’13 Concept and Business Model • The DCC office in NY will be the focal point for all NY-DK cleantech related activities – a ”Single Point of Entry” • DCC will be run from DI’s local office in NY • A DCC employee will be permanently stationed at DI’s NY-office to secure continued project development • A DEMO site will be set up in NY to showcase Danish solutions, where DCC will facilitate workshops, events, and matchmaking with local players • DCC will be co-financed by public and private partners that share the same interest in bringing innovative cleantech solutions to the NY area DK Companies US Companies DK Public Authorities DCC Private Foundations US Public Authorities Research Institutions 6
