This document summarizes the activities and accomplishments of the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Alabama A&M University for the 2009 fall semester. 10. Department Fundraising and Scholarship Efforts We raised roughly $15,000 in private fundraising Provided $600 to former majors enrolled in graduate programs at A&M We also gave out $500 help needy students purchase textbooks through faculty member donations

Amanda Whatley Selected as 2008 participant in Washington Presidential Seminar (A week long study of President politics and attended the inauguration of President Obama Selected among nation-wide college competition tothe Charles Rangel International Relations Institutein Washington, D.C. (six week study program and she received a $3600.00 stipend) Served a 4 week internship this summer in the office of 5th District Congressman Parker Griffith

21. Ronald my Brother, You cannot imagine how much you just "softly killed me" by sending these pictures!! I have been talking about you guys and telling how proud and fortunate I was to be have been able to attend, assist, just BE WITH YOU ALL in Alabama at this very special, unique, historical moment: something like: only here, only now!! Man, let me tell you the great honor it was for me to meet you! I also need to tell you "thank you so much" for your gift. I am keeping it at home and have already shown it to the people at the US embassy in Algiers where I was to present some kind of report/lecture about my trip. So, trust me, they already know about Professor Slaughter and his young democrats club.

Oh, one thing I need to tell you: During our wrap up meeting we had at the Kennedy School for Government in Harvard, we were all asked to tell about our respective experiences (advantages, drawbacks, comments on the electoral process and the voting system in the US etc) and when my turn came up, I naturally mentioned our trip to Huntsville in details (the A&M university, the young democrats club, "hands that picked cotton..", etc). Remember that we were 78 international visitors coming from all around the world..I must have been very persuasive in telling the story since at the end of the meeting, these people from the State department came to me very discretely asking if I would accept to give a video interview. So one hour later, I find myself in this "video lab" in front of a massive camera with 4 persons surrounding me and this "journalist" who keeps

23. asking questions about my experience etc. And then she comes up with this "I have been told that you had a wonderful experience in Alabama, can you tell us more about these hands that picked cotton...." So here I am again going into details about meeting with you, the first "black university" in the south.., the young democrats club, the rally, the dinner at night, the warm welcome we received, that election night at the space & rocket center (I know that you were at the other party at this hotel that night..). So this interview may be uploaded in the state dpt website. Anyway, I will tell you when they do it. I really hope we will keep in touch and who knows; maybe one day we will organize a trip for you here in Algeria. Anyway, be sure that you are my guest anytime if you are around (in Lyon – France or in Algiers), most welcome.
