- Accessible: where are we today?Datasets – the ‘raw fleece’ available online (OECD.Stat) and on CD-Rom. 70% free today, 100% free in 2015.Data annuals – ‘balls of wool’ – ready-made tables for those who don’t have the time or skill to extract data themselves. Available in print (still!), and online in PDF, Excel and “Read” formats.Indicator annuals – the next step up the value chain, “ready-to-wear garments” or indicator publications that combine data with explanations and context. For everyone – even via Apps.Analytical publications – a house is dependent on wool for insulation – you can’t necessarily see it, but without it the house isn’t complete. The same goes for analytical publications, you may not see the data so clearly, but the report would be incomplete without data.Stories, Vizualisation. A new area, facilitated by ICT. The analogy is bespoke, designer, dresses. Difficult to make but have a high impact!Together, they make data accessible to a broad audience. Today, as the chart shows, OECD is active in all these different ways of making data accessible and we plan to go further, especially with Indicators and Vizualisations as we develop a new data portal.
