 Avoid dangling modifiers in your writing.




 Remember:


    Modifier: describes, clarifies, or gives more detail

    Dangling modifier:
      We don’t know who/what it’s modifying
      Modifier describes the wrong noun
Examples


 Having finished the assignment, the TV was turned
 on.


 After arriving late for school, a tardy slip was needed.



 Before making his point, the talking stick was
 acquired.
How to Fix


 Having finished the assignment, Anna turned on the TV.




 After arriving late for school, Grady needed a tardy slip.
