Daily Life of Muslims
 Prohibitions: Everything that is harmful to the body, mind, soul, or
society is forbidden (haram) in Islam, while everything that is beneficial is
permissible (halal). Muslims are not permitted to consume pork, alcohol, or
mind-altering drugs. Muslims are required to consume meat that has been
butchered and blessed in an Islamic manner. Muslims are also prohibited from
gambling, taking an interest in fortune-telling, killing, lying, stealing, cheating,
oppressing or abusing others, being greedy or stingy, engaging in sex outside of
marriage, disrespecting parents, mistreating relatives, orphans, or neighbors,
and mistreating relatives, orphans, or neighbors.
 Role of clergy: n Islam, there is no clergy hierarchy, nor do Muslim
religious leaders have the authority to forgive people's sins. Every person has a
direct relationship with God, with no intermediary.
 Conversion to Islam: Muslims are encouraged to spread the word about
their faith. Muslims, on the other hand, are told not to criticize other people's
beliefs or engage in religious conflicts or debates. There is no formal conversion
ceremony. To convert to Islam, people must simply believe in and recite the
shahada

- Upper class Filipinos are also more "westernized" because they trace more, read
more ""westernmaterials,"andwatchmore Hollywoodmoviesthanlocal movies.As
a result, they are more accustomed to western culture and practices. Kissing, best-
be so, and hugging in public are not typical Asian practices, but the ""upper class"
Filipinos were the first to imitate the West and have gradually popularized these
practices in the Philippines.

- You might notice that people in lower classes are more timid and polite. I
think it’s because the local values of hiya (coyness) and pakikisama
(togetherness) are stronger with them. People in higher classes, on the
other hand, may be more individualistic and strong in character. This may
be because they have been more exposed to Western ideals.

  • 1. Daily Life of Muslims  Prohibitions: Everything that is harmful to the body, mind, soul, or society is forbidden (haram) in Islam, while everything that is beneficial is permissible (halal). Muslims are not permitted to consume pork, alcohol, or mind-altering drugs. Muslims are required to consume meat that has been butchered and blessed in an Islamic manner. Muslims are also prohibited from gambling, taking an interest in fortune-telling, killing, lying, stealing, cheating, oppressing or abusing others, being greedy or stingy, engaging in sex outside of marriage, disrespecting parents, mistreating relatives, orphans, or neighbors, and mistreating relatives, orphans, or neighbors.  Role of clergy: n Islam, there is no clergy hierarchy, nor do Muslim religious leaders have the authority to forgive people's sins.
