2. WHAT IS DADO?
● Dado or Dado work is a Decorated, Paneled or Painted
lower part of the wall which is (0.3m-0.9m) above from
the floor
● Dado work may be executed in various styles like
Wainscoting, paneling, moulding or painting with
colours
4. CONSIDERATIONS FOR DADO
● MATERIAL : Based on Aesthetics, Budget, Specifications
by client. Wood, Tiles, stone, plaster, MDF(Medium
Density Fibre) or PVC Panels etc.
● HEIGHT : Typical standard height range around 30cm-
90cm (1”-3”) can be also varied by design preferences
5. ● PRE-SOAKING : The clay tiles should be soaked in
water at least 2 hours before the tile installation for
bond strength and surface adhesion.
● WALL PREPARATION : Ensure that wall is properly
prepared before installing Dado. Wall Preparation
involves cleaning, smoothing on wall to get smooth
surface install dado
6. ● INSTALLATION METHOD : Based on type of material
and surface type, involves Adhesive, Nails, screws etc.
● ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING CONSIDERATIONS : If
Dado work involves cutting through the walls, existing
electrical wiring and Plumbing inlet and outlet lines might
get affected
7. SPECIFICATIONS TO INSTALL DADO
● Dado should always done after laying tiles in floor
● If tiles are to be fixed on walls as dados, the portion of the wall should be
unplastered.
● in case of dado, The wall surface shall be evenly and uniformly covered with about
10 mm thick backing of cement mortar ( 1 cement : 4 coarse sand)
● The fixing shall be done from the bottom of the wall upwards.
● Each tile should be fixed close as possible. If any difference in thickness of tiles,
shall be evened out in cushioning motar Or cement paste.

8. SPECIFICATIONS OF MEASURING DADO
● IS:1200 3.9 : In situ finishes, Dados (including raking dado) shall be measured
in square meters
● IS:1200 4.12 : In Tile, Slab or Block finishes, Dados(including raking dado) shall
be measured in square meters
● IS:1200 6.6 : Beeding and Backing in Skirting and Dados shall be measured
separately
