                  Friends
                abroad…..
              Heyyy
                 y
               You
               Can
                Do
              It !!!!
Yes !!!
Really.. My Friend
  ?
Let me explain you…..
A GIANT NETWORK OF COMPUTERS

                Millions of
              Computers are
               connected to
                each other
                 through
                 Internet.
As you talk to your friends and relatives over
the phone in any corner of the World….
the same way you can talk, share text,
photographs or even videos , if you have an
  Internet Connection in your computer.
What do you mean by
             “ Internet
         Connection” ?
You all watch Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and Pogo
                     on your TV sets.
And you get all these channels through your cable operator
Cable operator gives you this connection by fixing a
cable (wire) to your TV Set…..
                      Similarly

To get access to the INTERNET you
     need some connection to your
              COMPUTER.
Cable Operator provides Cable
   Connection ….then
   who provides Internet Connection?

Internet Connection is provided by –
  INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER
             (ISP)

Some Internet Service Providers Are –

BSNL ( Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.)
 MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.)
            Airtel Broadband

To share their knowledge with the world
Many individuals write Web pages to share
information about their interests or hobbies.
How am I going to Yes, to access
view all these Internet you should
 websites? have a program
Do I need some called –
special software for it ? WEB BROWSER.
WEB BROWSER
A Software program used to view and interact with
various types of Internet resources available on
the World Wide Web. Netscape , Internet Explorer,
Opera and Firefox are some common examples.
•Google got its name from the mathematical figure googol,
which denotes the number 'one followed by a hundred zeros'.

•Yahoo! derived its name from the word Yahoo coined by
Jonathan Swift in Gulliver's Travels. A Yahoo is a person who
is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human!

•Researchers consider that the first search engine was Archie,
created in 1990 by Alan Emtage, a student at McGill University
in Montreal, Canada.

•It was once considered a letter in the English language. The
Chinese call it a little mouse, Danes and Swedes call it
'elephant's trunk', Germans a spider monkey, and Italians a
snail. Israelis pronounce it 'strudels' and the Czechs say
'rollmops's...What is it? The @ sign.
The first Internet worm was created by Robert T.Morris,
Jr, and attacked more than 6000 Internet hosts.

Mosaic, is the first Web browser with a GUI.

Marc Andreessen founded Netscape.

Boeing was the first airline to discover the Y2K problem, way
back in 1993.

Satyam Online become the first private ISP in December
1998 to offer Internet connections in India.
• Browser -A browser is a software program used to access and
display pages and files on the web. E.g. Mozilla Firefox, Internet
    Explorer , Netscape etc.

    2. Chatting – A way of communication between two users via
computer. Once a chat has been initiated, either user can enter
text by typing on the keyboard and the entered text will appear
    on the other user's monitor.

    3. E-mail (Electronic Mail) - is the exchange of computer-stored
    messages through Internet.

    4. Internet - A global network connecting millions of computers.
5. Modem (Modulator-Demodulator) - A piece of hardware that helps
in transmitting data from one computer to other over a phone line.

6. Surfing – Visiting different sites on the internet through a web
browser.
7. Search Engine - Software that enables users to search the Internet
using keywords. Examples of well known services of this type are
AltaVista and Google.

8. Web Page - A page designed for viewing in a web browser.

9. Website - A site (location) on the World Wide Web. Each website
contains a homepage, which is the first document users see when
they enter the site. The site might also contain additional documents
and files.
So, to have Internet Access I need-

• a Modem
• an Internet Connection from an ISP
• a Web Browser
… and I will be ready to become a
part of this Amazing World of
unlimited information…
