CVC Sentence and Picture Match Activity
(Can be used with black dry wipe pens)
Pictures for spelling words – leg cot pig mop dot dog – sum bed bus
peg bag cup – cap cat can ten pen net – bin jet sun run wig mug - tag
van sad tap dad fan – map hat jam rat egg car
Ideas for activities
Instructions are adaptable for teachers/parents/carers and activities can be used with 1 child, a group or a class.
1. Sentence and Picture Match – Lay out as and activity for some
children to do independently. Children can read and match
their 6 sentence cards to the pictures on their boards. The
children could put their name card on the boards when
completed for teacher to check later.
2. Spelling Activity -Use with blank cards (sold separately) for
children to spell CVC words to match their picture boards or
children could write the words on post its.
3. Play as a game with a group of children. In turns children
should pick a sentence card and read to group. Whoever has
the matching picture should cover the picture on their board.
Winner covers all pictures first.
4. Read and Draw – Lay out as an activity for children to do
independently. Use 4 sentence cards and a small white board
per child and ask children to read the sentences and draw a
picture of what they read. Children could lay the sentence
cards beside their sentence and put their name on the white
board for teacher to check later.
