He was employed as part of the Systems & Automation EPCM team in the position of
Senior Project Manager/Consultant, and fulfilled that role with diligence and commitment,
providing essential execution, coordination and technical knowledge of the automation,
security, pipeline and terminal operating systems, and communications infrastructure which
were implemented on the project.
He demonstrated extreme competence in the requirements management and engineering
processes, including the verification and validation of user requirement, functional and
technical specifications. He initiated and managed the NEC3 contracts for the supply,
installation, testing and commissioning of the main automation and communications
contracts, and engaged with the client for the final inspection, testing and commissioning
of the integrated systems.

in November 2007 by Transnet Capital Projects to provide Control Systems Management and
Consulting Services on the New Multi-Product Pipeline (NMPP) Project in South Africa.
Steve Pender is an entrepreneurial strategic orientated individual who enjoys the challenges of
being responsible for an solutions business. He has demonstrated success by being able to
apply lateral thinking for executing operational business in multi-discipline engineering, project
management and control systems environments.
Experience in setting up project finance and international consortium partners for large
complex projects.
He has experience that has been gained in managing large complex multi discipline projects in
Petrochemical, Power Generation and Paper industries. Strong background in Electrical,
Instrumentation and Automation projects in Petrochemical environments.
Pender and Assosciates provided integrated project management services and support to
Transnet across a multi-disciplinary scope, including: engineering and design services,
construction technical support, vendor project management, procurement technical and
inspections support, cold/hot commissioning procedures and planning, and overall on-site
execution of the completions and commissioning support.
The project was awarded following a competitive tender process against international and
regional engineering companies. Pender and Associates were invited on the NEC3 to provide a
comprehensive Professional Services Contract (PSC3) solution for the Trankline,Transnet TM1
Coastal terminal in Durban, Pump Stations and the Inland Terminal TM2 in Heidelberg.
Transnet Capital Projects is extremely satisfied with the level of service rendered and Pender
and Associates capability to complete the scope of Control Systems Management and Infra Tele-
communications as part of the NMPP Project.
Pender and Associates level of support, responsiveness and professionalism over the last few
years and their ability to provide these functions on such a complex project is commendable.
