KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I was brought in on a consultancy basses to reduce the lead time of one of the Companies products manufactured in all their plants around the
word. The current lead time was on average 7 days, and the lead time wanted was 3 days. I needed to design a production system that could
be standardised and implemented word wide, that would not have CAPEX, would reduce the unit cost and would achieve the 3 day lead time.
This involved the following:-
• Liaising with the relevant Heads of Departments and production personal in the Factories in China, Sri Lanka and South Africa (Durban
and Cape Town).
• Determine current operating procedures, analyse the items produced in the various plants and the equipment used.
• Using the manufacturing facility in Cape Town, apply Industrial Engineering Principles to determine current tak time’s
• Design new operating procedures. Apply LEAN Manufacturing principles to assist in achieving the 3 day lead time.
• Draw up new Work Instructions together with the Operating Procedures so as to integrate the Production System into the ISO 9001
Quality Management System.
• Draw Up training procedures and recommendations for the production personnel at the various plants.
ACHIEVEMENTS
I was able to design a production system that achieved the 3 day lead time, without any CAPEX and was able to reduce the input cost
of the product thereby improving the GP.

• Using LEAN/TPS manufacturing disciplines reduced lead times from 96 to 48 hours for tooling manufacture.
• Through the implementation of ISO9001 and the KAIZEN principle of Continuous Improvement, we were able to improve quality to
match that of imported tooling from Europe securing that market segment.
• Successfully negotiated the Manufacturing License for two international brands.
• Successfully negotiated 3 Merger deals and the integration of the manufacturing facilities.

The shareholders decided to close the company.
