This document discusses summer activities for adults. It begins by noting that while there are many ideas for children's summer activities, finding fun options for adults can be difficult. It then provides four suggestions for adult summer activities:
1. A movie marathon with friends where people bring their favorite movies and snacks.
2. Hosting a barbecue, which can be budget-friendly or gourmet and is a good way to socialize.
3. Organizing a block party, especially around holidays, to meet neighbors and build community.
4. Having an "Iron Chef" style cooking competition where participants must prepare dishes using a randomly selected ingredient.
The document summarizes the experiences and reflections of a student who went on several field trips as part of a geography class. On one trip, the student visited Java Jacks coffee shop and was surprised to find it matched their expectations. At Friendship Cemetery, they were struck by the continued segregation of graves by race. The nearly abandoned towns of Dextra and Sacul provided insight into economic decline. Exploring Lanana Creek Trail and nearby gardens, the student realized the value of exploring one's surroundings. The most interesting destination was Zion Hill Cemetery and neighborhood, where the number of unknown graves and run-down homes highlighted past poverty.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Cubscout Handbook of Outings
1. Cub Scout Handbook of Outings
The purpose of this document is give you ideas of places to visit that will meet the
requirements for rank advancement, but more importantly, be engaging and fun.
Nothing is better for learning than to experience it first hand. You’ve probably
heard it said more than once “Scouting is Outings”. Outings create great experiences
that are fun, engaging and leave a lifetime of memories. As a side benefit, outings
also make us visible in the community. Non-scouting parents, children,
grandparents who see us doing things in the community may be seeing scouts in
action for the first time. We hope that this triggers a thought in their minds to check
out our program and see what we’re about.
This document is nowhere near complete. Orange County is large and has a long
history in the state of California. So please use this handbook as a starting point, not
as a be-all end-all guide. Be creative, and most importantly talk to the other leaders
of your pack, district and council. Go to your roundtable and ask other leaders
about what they’ve done. The scouting network is vast and is always willing to
share information. I’ve always been surprised at the things I’ve learned talking to
other leaders at roundtable, camps and other scouting events.
Purpose of scouting
“Let us, therefore, in training our Scouts, keep the higher aims in the forefront, not
let ourselves get too absorbed in the steps. Don't let the technical outweigh the
moral. Field efficiency, backwoodsmanship, camping, hiking, good turns, jamboree
comradeship are all means, not the end. The end is character with a purpose. And
that purpose, that the next generation may be sane in an insane world, and develop
the higher realization of service, active service of love, and duty to God and
neighbor.” – Lord Bayden Powell
Teaching Moments
When on an outing you’ll likely have a goal (or goals) in mind that you’d like to
achieve. Often there will be things that will pop up that can be used as teaching
moments for the boys. Pay attention to those moments and highlight them for your
boys. There is nothing better than overhearing your boys saying “Remember the
legless lizard we saw last year on that hike at camp?” Be ready to let go of your own
agenda and go with the flow. At summer camp one year, one of my boys found an
opossum skull. I immediately asked him to show me and we took the whole group
of boys over to it to get a closer look. We got a stick and poked at it, flipping it over
and talking about what it was and how it got there. That ended up being the best
part of the entire week.

Fire Stations / Police Stations
Just about every fire station and police department will take tours. Call your
local fire department or police station on their regular line (not 911!) and see about
arranging a tour.
