GCG Bahrain was recently awarded the coveted title, ‘Best Workplace’ in EMEA, during a conference held at
Vienna. The award was presented to Mr. Ashish Bhugra, Citibank’s Consumer Bank Head of Bahrain by Mr.
George Awad during an event that was attended by 210 people across the 28 EMEA countries. Citibank Bah-
rain team was represented by Nader Moosa, Bilal alavi and Harpreet Arora.

Volunteers Spend Precious Time at Sal-
maniya Hospital
Citigroup Bahrain volunteers recently joined more than 40,000 Citigroup volun-
teers in 100 countries for the company’s first “Global Community Day.”
Citigroup’s first Global Community Day is a worldwide effort involving more
than 800 projects in over 400 cities around the world. Recognizing that many
Citigroup employees volunteer year-round in their communities, Global Commu-
nity Day celebrates Citigroup’s volunteer spirit on one-
day worldwide. Local volunteer teams worked on a vari-
ety of projects addressing specific community needs, in-
cluding literacy, housing, environmental protection, nu-
trition, and health care.
In Bahrain, more than 25 Citigroup volunteers spent time
with 130 patients at Salmaniya Hospital-Children Wards.
Cancer and leukemia patients were comforted and pro-
vided with token gifts at the end of the visit.
Mohammed Al-Shroogi, Division Head for Middle
East, Egypt and Levant, said: “We are committed to be
an integral part of the Middle Eastern societies where we
maintain a presence for almost half-a-century. The
Global Community Day is one way to demonstrate our
resolve to fulfill our duty as a responsible corporate citi-
zen in Bahrain and elsewhere.”

Citigroup supported the community by training unemployed physically
challenged youth
Citigroup announced a new grant to the Bahrain Training Institute (BTI) which was dedicated to training the physi-
cally challenged youth of Bahrain.
The USD 35,000 grant by the Citigroup Foundation was utilised to finance the “Citibank Diploma in Banking for
the physically challenged”, a training programme which offered students high quality, lifelong vocational and en-
trepreneurship training in Banking and Finance to meet current and future employment requirements.
The training will cover teamwork skills, personal development, social skills and independent living skills that are
imperative to the physically challenged to help them gain a secure and permanent job.
Mr Mohammed Al Shroogi, Citigroup’s Division Head for Middle East, Egypt and Levant said, “Citigroup has
time and again, demonstrated its commitment towards helping the local community, especially to those who are dis-
advantaged.
“I believe that physically challenged youth, if provided with
the right training and education, can offer meaningful contri-
bution to the society and have successful careers,” said Mr
Shroogi.
The Citigroup Foundation focuses its grants primarily in three
areas: financial education, educating the next generation, and
building communities and entrepreneurs.
Commenting on Citibank’s support for the Institute and the
local community, BTI Director Hameed Saleh said, “This is
not the first time that Citigroup engages with BTI in support-
ing focussed training which aim at helping Bahraini nationals
to confidently enter the labour market.
“This gesture is aimed at paving the way for talented physi-
cally challenged youths to land secure careers in the banking and finance industry,” said Mr Saleh.
The induction for this program was held back in Dec 06.

and September months, in the absence of two key staff
members, she has efficiently managed to take over addi-

Bake sale success story

Citibank staff took part in a Bake Sale for which they pre-
pared a variety of snacks that were sold to the bank’s staff.
The proceeds totaling BHD291 were presented to NBB
Home for Disabled Children on 5th
October in the form of
BD10 Al Muntazah Supermarket Vouchers to the needy
families of the disabled children, as well as, Gergaoon
giveaways to the children in the center.
The visit was arranged by Citiclub members,
Mrs Abeer Al Shehabi and Chrissy Kim. “I
feel that it was a great personal achievement
to contribute to such an activity” Abeer
commented.
