Editor's Notes
SAP has a long term strategy to focus on the Business User. The acquisition of Business Objects and the product line we can now take to market is key to our ability to execute against that strategy. However to fully achieve our objective and ensure our customers can fully optimize their business performance, we must further understand the role of the business user. We see three key trends which are having an impact on the business user: Changing demographics: Grey2K pr aging/retiring workforce. Processes and domain knowledge not written down so potentially lost as the institutional knowledge these workers possess walk out the door. Systems now need to be put in place to ensure this institutional knowledge is not lost. Millennium generation/digital natives are now entering the work force. This new generation has different expectations of work; stay at job 2-3 years, work from home/road, not the office; and are used to leveraging technology in very different ways. Web2.0 - With the advent of Google and Yahoo putting masses of information at the finger tips of consumers in an easily searchable and usable fashion expectations are increasingly that Enterprise Software should work in the same way, with the same easy of use and information access. Deployment models are also changing with expectations that Software should be instantly available, up and running in hours, not days/weeks/months. How we Work - Finally all of this changes the nature of our work. Prioritization becomes as much about what we don’t do, as what we do – the implication being, decision making by exception and resulting systems need to support not just executives but also line workers as they try to comb through masses of information to find the exceptions that require attention. A rise is the role of shared service centre across various LOBs is also driving a greater need for shared platforms and information. Finally teams are increasingly becoming globally distributed and cross functional emphasizing the importance of collaboration and being able to share information across time zones and large geographies. These trends are impacting the way we do business and changing the nature of organizations. We have seen a move from a very centralized and process driven organization to a business network that can adapt to global competition, changes in suppliers and shifting demand. As a result of these changes in the business environment we are seeing the need to converge what have in the past been disparate disciplines into a single integrated system that addresses users demands for Unified Information, Collaborative decisions, and Business network optimization. For customers, this new found ability to optimize business performance will result in broader insight, aligned strategy, optimized decisions, and flawless execution regardless of the underlying transactional systems. But what does this really deliver? SAP BusinessObjects provides the world’s leading solutions for GRC, EPM and Business Intelligence and the roadmap we are about to share drives the convergence of these assets but ultimately our goal is to help organizations overcome what we see is the number one pain point experienced by nearly every business today: the disconnect between the world of making decisions and the world of executing them. Today, 9 out of 10 organizations fail to implement their strategy. Executives are all too often disconnected from the realities facing operational units, forced to make strategic decisions without a clear view of what is happening on the front line. Organizations find it difficult to communicate goals to their employees, and to align their day-to-day activities with the overall strategy of the organization. We want to help organizations fix this this gap between strategy and execution, and optimize their business performance and we will do that by helping companies create an integrated process of; defining strategy based on facts and data, turning strategy into plans, ensuring compliance, managing risks, and executing in heterogeneous landscapes while tracking results. So having outlined a vision to drive the convergence of EPM, GRC and BI, and establishing how this helps close the gap between strategy and execution, what solutions does SAP Business Objects deliver in each of these domains? <<CLICK TO ADVANCE>> Describe each product grouping in turn: Business Intelligence - Providing meaningful intelligence and shedding light and clarity on the overall business to support optimal enterprise decision making Information Management - Enabling the integration into diverse business environments and ensuring the quality of data Governance Risk and Compliance - Maximizing strategic and operational effectiveness while minimizing cost by proactively aligning, automating and monitoring key risks and controls. Enterprise Performance Management - Ensuring optimized enterprise performance through from strategic decision making through planning and consolidation, modelling and optimization
