Cross references refer to related information elsewhere, usually within the same work. There are two types of cross references: within the same statute and between different statutes. An example is provided of cross referencing Section 3 of the Contracts Act 1950 to Section 4, as Section 4 further explains communication of offers and acceptances mentioned in Section 3. Cross references can also be made between different statutes, such as between sections of the Contracts Act and the Companies Act.

More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot where the citation appears.
Generally the combination of both the in-body citation and the bibliographic entry constitutes what is commonly thought of as a citation (whereas bibliographic entries by themselves are not).
References to single, machine-readable assertions in electronic scientific articles are known as nano-publications, a form of micro-attribution. Citation has several important purposes: to uphold intellectual honesty (or avoiding plagiarism), to attribute prior or unoriginal work and ideas to the correct sources, to allow the reader to determine independently whether the referenced material supports the author's argument in the claimed way, and to help the reader gauge the strength and validity of the material the author has used.

Tandoori chicken
There are three secrets to cooking good tandoori chicken: using a tandoor clay oven, imparting a rich red color, and using a special yogurt marinade. While a tandoor oven is ideal, a barbecue grill or regular oven can be substituted. The marinade ingredients include lemon juice, garlic, ginger, spices, food coloring, and yogurt. Chicken is marinated for at least a couple hours before being roasted in the oven or grilled, basting occasionally, until just cooked through to avoid becoming dry.

Organic Farming in Laos
The PROFIL II project aims to promote organic agriculture in Laos to improve rural livelihoods, consumer health, and sustainable resource use. PROFIL works with government partners and provides training and support to over 700 farmers growing organic vegetables, fruits, and rice.
