We will report how using the Application Jukebox application virtualization solution at the University of New Hampshire has saved time and simplified management of public and department-specific computer labs and our VDI environment. Traditionally, we used a combination of imaging and then various scripted deployments to install applications. With application virtualization, we have been able to move over a hundred Windows applications into virtual packages that can be "installed" by users on demand. We will discuss the general problem of managing large numbers of complex applications across a range of computer environments while also trying to be flexible and responsive to users.
Outcomes: Understand how application virtualization can overcome issues with deploying software * Appreciate the capabilities of Application Jukebox to be able to assess its utility to your campus * Obtain a model for evaluating a tool's potential savings

In general, OS simulators provide support for developing applications by mimicking the host computer hardware/software and often behave as a virtualization platform for the developer. Not all the developers/testers can have access to the actual OS licenses and/or hardware. MapuSoft’s OS Simulator is designed to create a better simulation environment.
At this joint NYC Cloud Foundry and NY PHP meetup, we'll discuss the shift to Platform-as-a-Service and what it means for PHP development on the cloud.
First, we'll take a look at the "traditional" cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (virtual servers and disks) model and describe how Platform-as-a-Service builds upon it to provide the runtimes and data services for hosting PHP applications.
We'll then demonstrate how a PHP developer can use buildpacks and services within a Cloud Foundry PaaS to deploy scalable and resilient apps to his or her cloud of choice.
Along the way we'll compare the variety of buildpacks available to PHP developers, show techniques for binding to services, and highlight best practices for creating born-on-the-cloud apps based on a microservices architecture.
Special thanks to Dan Mikusa for helping with the buildpack comparison.
PHP developers: Please give all three build packs a try. Provide your feedback and submit pull requests on GitHub.

Hitchhiker's guide to Cloud-Native Build Pipelines and Infrastructure as CodeRobert van Mölken
As more and more application deployments move to the cloud the scale and complexity becomes harder to manage. Instead of a handful of large instances, you might have many smaller instances, so there are many more things you need to provision. Because of this cloud vendors provide API abstraction of their compute, storage, network and other platform services. In this talk I present a guide to provision these services, such as a Kubernetes cluster, using infrastructure as code and deploy your applications through cloud-native build pipelines. Get to know the concepts behind these DevOps practices and come hear which tools to use like Terraform and Oracle Container Pipelines to automate these laborious tasks on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
This talk, a case study in application deployment models, was given at IBM InterConnect 2017 in Las Vegas, NV on March 21, 2017 by Lin Sun & Phil Estes of IBM Cloud.
In this talk, Lin & Phil provided a background of IBM Bluemix compute offerings across Cloud Foundry, Containers + Kubernetes, and FaaS/serverless via OpenWhisk and then used a demo application to describe the tradeoffs between using the various deployment models and technology. The application is open source and available at https://github.com/estesp/flightassist
Cloud foundry Docker Openstack - Leading Open Source TriumvirateAnimesh Singh
OpenStack, Docker, and Cloud Foundry are the three most popular open source projects according to a recent cloud software survey. Docker has taken the cloud world by storm as a revolutionary way to not only run isolated application containers, but also to package them. But how does Docker fit into the paradigm of IaaS and PaaS? More specifically, how does it integrate with OpenStack and Cloud Foundry, the world's most popular infrastructure and platform service implementations? Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

1. Overview Datasheet
Cross-OS Hypervisor provides various virtualization interfaces that enable POSIX/Linux, micro-ITRON,
Windows, VxWorks, Nucleus and pSOS embedded applications to run natively, consolidated on one host or
target OS platform as shown below.
Your OS Platform
Cross-OS Hypervisor’s code generator builds a custom virtualization interface package that is optimized
for specific applications and target environments. These interfaces are compiled with the applications
and linked natively for better optimization on your specific target OS platform. The applications can also
run in a simulated host platform for system testing and integration.
Applications can allow sharing of certain individual resources (tasks, timers, queues, etc)
and directly communicate between them using the virtualization interfaces’ shared block memory
manager. This mechanism allows applications to communicate directly and bypass the hardware devices
or network interface layers, as well be tested and integrated under a host environment. Applications can
take full advantage of powerful resources like CPU, memory, drivers, middleware and tools on the host
platform and start testing and integration before the actual target components are available.
Consolidating heterogeneous applications to run under a single OS environment provides many
advantages, including:
• Lower OS, tools and middleware licensing costs
• Reduced hardware requirements such as memory, disk space, etc.
• Better performance by using native OS tools and running natively on the OS without using a
hardware emulator or hypervisor
• Reduced BSP/device driver work as you only need to develop required drivers for one OS
• Applications can also be dedicated to specific CPU core(s) under SMP environment and with pre-
defined resources requirements
