Ferdinand I was the King of Romania from 1914 to 1927. He was born Ferdinand Viktor Albert Meinrad of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in Germany in 1865 to a Roman Catholic princely family that had historically ruled the principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen until it was annexed to Prussia in 1850.
