What is Creativity?
• Creativity is the ability to see the same things
as everyone else but think something different.
• Creativity involves the translation of our unique
gifts and talents into something that is both
new and useful.
• Creativity is an important element in finding
new ways to do old things and ways to do
things yet undone.
Definition (wikipedia)
• Creativity is a mental and social process
involving the discovery of new ideas or
concepts, or new associations of the
creative mind between existing ideas or
concepts.
Components of creativity
• Knowledge – all the relevant understanding an
individual bring to bear on a creative effort.
• Creative thinking – related to how people
approach problem and depends on personality
and thinking or work style.
• Motivation – generally accepted as a key to
creative production, and the most important are
intrinsic passion and interest in the work itself.
Components of Creativity
Creative Thinking
• Creative Thinking refers to the ability to
form new combinations of ideas to fulfil a
need, or to get original or otherwise
appropriate results by the criteria of the
domain in question.

The Occurrence of Creativity
• When creativity emerges, it often occurs in
the form of an intuitive flash of insight.
• It is usually just the complete idea that is
revealed. Equations, testing, and analysis
come much later.
Barriers to Creativity
• Self-constraining beliefs – the participant
makes the problem more difficult by
assuming certain constraining conditions
that do not exist.
• Fears, beliefs, and stresses – people that
fear criticism or have strong beliefs may
have limited ability to be “free” and creative.
• Routines and rigidity – this may inhibit the
information gathering, interactions, and
incubation of thought that leads to creativity.

The LiftPod is a personal, portable
aerial work platform designed as an
alternative to ladders. Powered by
any standard 18-volt cordless drill or
an optional power pack, the LiftPod
gives users a 360-degree range of
motion at a working height of up to
14 feet. It can be assembled by one
person in less than 30 seconds, and
because of its light weight, it can be
moved around a job site by a single
person.

Bike lanes have proven to
be an effective method of
protecting cyclists on
congested roads, yet they
can be prohibitively
expensive to install.
LightLane provides an
alternative. Using a laser,
a rider projects a crisply
defined virtual bike lane
onto the pavement, giving
drivers a familiar boundary
to avoid. With this wider
margin of safety, bikers will
regain their confidence to
ride at night, making the
bicycle a more viable
commuting alternative.
