Cradle Mountain is located in western Tasmania, Australia in Cradle Valley. It was named in 1826 by Joseph Fossey and reaches 1,545 meters above sea level. Archaeological evidence shows that Aboriginal people occasionally visited the mountain as early as the last ice age for seasonal hunting. Around 20,000 years ago, a glacier carved out Cradle Valley and helped shape the distinctive peaks, and Cradle Mountain is now within the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
