This study analyzed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric surgical care at a single center in Bangalore, India. The authors compared data from before the pandemic (September 2019-March 2020) to after (October 2020-April 2021). They found significant declines in both elective and emergency pediatric surgeries performed, as well as outpatient visits. Protocols were established for screening and treating COVID-19 positive patients requiring surgical care. The pandemic disrupted pediatric surgery practices and increased hospital stays. It also reduced emergency case volumes, a concern. Overall, the study shows how the pandemic severely affected pediatric surgical services at this hospital in India.

Abstract:
Background: The global healthcare landscape confronted unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Materials and Methods: This study explores how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted healthcare services in India, with a focus on the Stand-alone HIV Testing Centre (SA-ICTC) at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, during the period from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. Amid the pandemic, specialized clinics for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Reproductive Tract Infections (RTI) saw a decline in outpatient attendance, while the SA-ICTC faced unique challenges. Results: To address these challenges, innovative solutions were implemented, including alternate-day duty rosters, leading to increased staff efficiency and reduced errors. The study noted a 47.9% reduction in the total number of HIV tests conducted, although the proportion of HIV-positive clients accessing services remained stable. Referrals from STI clinics and Targeted Intervention sites decreased, while referrals from the Tuberculosis (TB) center remained consistent. Client categories accessing ICTC services decreased, except for referrals from Facility Integrated Counseling and Testing Centres (F-ICTC). Conclusions: This research underscores the intricate interplay between COVID-19 and HIV, prompting positive changes in healthcare work ethics, documentation practices, and service delivery. It emphasizes the significance of strategic supply chain management, recommending a 1-2-month buffer of testing kits and consumables in HIV testing facilities to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during crises, thus safeguarding the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.WHO Situation Report Corona 20 Indonesia

Corona warriors and their challenges
Mr. Shatrughan Pareek presented on nurses serving as "soldiers of COVID-19". He discussed the introduction and spread of COVID-19 globally and in India. Nurses play important roles in communities by raising awareness and supporting surveillance, and in clinical settings by safely assessing, treating, and caring for patients with respect and confidentiality. While being on the frontlines carries risks of infection, it also brings professional growth and social appreciation. Various policies have both positively impacted nurses through insurance and PPE, and negatively through lack of facilities and financial losses.
Urology in the time of corona
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted urology services in northern Italy. In the province of Bergamo in Lombardy, over 50% of urologists are now infected with COVID-19. Urology departments have had to dedicate resources to treating COVID-19 patients, reducing operating capacity and outpatient services. Prioritizing and scheduling cancer surgeries is now difficult given limited resources. The long-term effects of delays in urology treatments are unknown, but could negatively impact patient outcomes.

Urologists in Singapore played an important role in responding to the COVID-19 outbreak. One quarter of the urology department staff were deployed to screen patients at the National Centre for Infectious Disease. This reduced urology services and impacted training. Lessons learned include maintaining emergency plans, effective administration, senior doctors leading by example, embracing technology, and remembering doctors' role in serving public health during crises.

Conclusion •The pediatric surgery practices have been severely affected. •There is an increased hospital stay and postponement of elective cases either due to exposure or patients/accompanying person being positive. •A fall in the number of emergency cases as well is something to be worried of.
