Administrative Management & Organizational Change/Reengineering
In my past position as Executive Director/Artistic Director for South County Center for the
Arts, the scope of my responsibility has spanned all association operations from strategic
planning, Board affairs and budgeting/financial management, public relations, and
local/state government affairs. In turn, funding from both private and government sources,
service, and operating results have improved year after year for the past three years.
In the last year of my tenure at South County Center for the Arts I tripled our grant income,
increased our Annual Fund Drive by 45% and received several honors that include the
Governors Award for Best Cultural Arts Center in the State of Rhode Island. I was also named
one of the top business men for 2010 by the Providence Business Journal.
As far as cultural arts education is concerned, I have implemented programs for both in-
house programs but afterschool mentorship programs. I have mentored across the state for
fine arts, language arts, and performing arts. Our summer arts programs were rated number
one by Rhode Island Monthly. Inmy 30 years of development, I have taught and mentored
over 10,000 students in the arts.
Prior to my position at South County Center for the Arts I took a year to work in Bosnia at the
American University ( SUNY affiliate), teaching Finance and Economics. I have also done
extensive work for Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD and Blackrock Center for the Arts in
Germantown, MD as well. Inmy career I have produced and mounted over 400 productions
on a professional level.
In September of 2011 to the present I started consulting for non profits in development
programs and strategic planning. I have consulted for San Diego Junior Theatre for the
Mission Trails Cultural Center in San Diego on a contract base developing an outreach
educational program involving the Kumeyah tribes and most recently for Northern Stage a
Lort D contract theater in White River Junction, VT.
Generally recognized as an “idea/strategy” person, I also possess the know-how and
wherewithal to implement my ideas. In fact, my entire history is one of creating something
where it did not exist before. While I can follow the lead of others, my main value is one of
creating new and pioneering methods to achieve goals by working the “big picture” and
effectively managing staff to assist me. I combine exposure to many experiences, an excellent
education, and a self-starting personality to get done what needs to be done.
If you are looking for an innovative leader whowill generate growth and profit, please contact
me to arrange an interview. I am eager to learn more about the challenges facing your
organization and to discuss how I can make a difference.
Sincerely
Russell Maitland
