The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) has completed a comprehensive research
analysis, which identified five Protective Factors that are linked to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
These Protective Factors or “Circles of Caring” are conditions in families and communities that,
when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. These attributes also
serve as buffers against risk factors for child maltreatment.
According to the Delhi Police, crimes by children in the 16-18 year age category are on the rise. This indeed is going to be a common phenomenon in the years to come by, particularly because there is very little being done in terms of reaching out the young and the adolescent with ways that help them deal with themselves and their situation better. Once into crime, getting out is not easy for anyone, including children. But the very purpose of the juvenile justice legislation in India is to provide these young people with opportunities to change before it is too late.

Advocacy is how we support our children. We as teachers give advice for our children or we listen. We let the children and families know that we believe in them and we will be there for them. Teachers, admin, staff can advocate for children as long as they are in school. Advocates are also trained people and they are not lawyers. One of their responsibility is to stay up to date with the regulations of the educational laws.

We as teachers need to make sure their wishes and views are being considered when it’s about their child or family. Children are placed in child care centers due to different circumstances one of them being work pressure for both parents. The other reason is that the child might be an orphan. In some circumstances professionals such as paediatricians advice parents to take their children to child centers so that they can be given good care by people who are qualified to handle children affairs. Children with special needs who attend child care centers at an early age miss out important learning that occurs in parental child interaction. One might question how a child who goes to daycare behavior might be different compared to a child that stays at home with parents. Depending on various circumstances, a child who attends daycare may be better prepared than kids who stay home exclusively with their parents. Judith Katz, an administrator from Minee Subee Early Education and Childcare centers says “While an ordinary daycare may watch over your child with safety in mind until pickup, an extraordinary daycare center may dedicate themselves to helping prepare your child for the future.”
To start with, entrusting children to someone else's care, even for just part of the day, can be troubling for most parents. This leads to a weaker bond between mother and child, particular in the infant and toddler stage. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that illness often spreads easily when children congregate together in venues such as daycare and school. Frequent and thorough hand washing with antibacterial soap serves as a means of reducing the spread of illness in the home. This alone proves that the children are always at risk of getting infections.
Parent and family characteristics are more strongly linked to child development than were child care center’s features. The child’s outcome is better when the mother is responsive, sensitive, and attentive and provide good stimulation to their child. Families with organized routines, books, play materials and engaged in outings and library trips have their children have good social and cognitive outcomes. In child care centers, most of these services may not be given to the child. Most child care Centre provide warm, supportive environment that protect the child’s health and safety but do not provide care giving which promotes and stimulates development. Parents value both compliance and social skills more than caretaker. This kind of personal attachment makes the child feel valued and important which stimulates child’s development. This personal touch provided by the parent is not given to the children in child care Centre. Where parent is mostly involved in child growth, child’s developing sense of independence, self-concept and self-esteem is supported. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.
2. SIBLING ISSUES When children have a sibling who is born with mental disabilities this can cause sibling issues. The child who is not disable needs to adjust to the child who is disabled. Siblings play important roles in each other’s lives. When the relationship is broken because of the disability or chronic illness of one child the future relationship can be altered. Children with siblings who are disabled usually have many positive characteristics, such as empathy and altruism, high tolerance for differences, high sense of maturity and responsibility and pride in their siblings accomplishments.
3. YOUTH IN CARE More needs to be done to help the youth that are in the criminal justice system. The system has been minimizing the risk that the youth will reoffend vs. helping the youth with their mental issues. Studies have been conducted looking at youth from offending teams, detention centers, and secure care homes. Most of the youth are being restrained for their behavior vs. figuring out what is ultimately causing the behavior. It is important that counselors who work in the school make sure that they are helping the youth who are facing the criminal justice system by trying to figure out what is causing the behavior.
4. Trauma (abused children) If a child has been sexually abused they may react to this abuse in many different ways. The counselor must always listen, believe, and be patient with the client. The child has to be consistently believed and reassured that they did the right thing by telling someone. There are counseling agencies that provide counseling to children as young as 2 years old. It is very important that the counselor gets the parents involved in the counseling session. Group counseling can also be successful for some youth. As a counselor we should make sure that we are treating these clients with care.
5. Trauma (neglected children) There are many approaches for working with children who have been neglected. Many children have experienced neglect due to parents being drug abusers. Counseling children who have been neglected is similar to counseling children who have been sexually abused because the children need support.
6. TRAUMA (CHILDREN SEPERATED FROM FAMILIES) Family counseling involves assessing the family, providing them counseling and education. Some children need counseling to cope with the various stages of divorce. Some of the goals of this type of counseling is: rebuilding broken bonds between parent and child and maintaining safe environments for children to thrive. There are many counseling services that are set up to accommodate children with these issues outside of the school system. Counselors need to understand the needs of these youth and if they are not able to assist them, they should know where to refer.
7. Trauma (child welfare) In a given year, one million American children come to the attention of the child welfare system. (NCTSN, 2005) It is imperative that knowledge is increased and skills are built among caseworkers and child welfare personnel to help identify and provide early interventions to these children. Counselors can help these children in many ways, such as: providing counseling to parents who children are at risk of entering the child welfare system and by providing counseling to children who are at risk or are currently in the system.
8. Trauma (major disasters) Natural disasters can be very scary and traumatic to children. It is not important to minimize the danger of the disasters to children. Children are consciously aware of their parents worries especially during a disaster. The child’s age affects how the child responds to the disaster. It is common for the children to relive the trauma during repetitive play. Counselors must be gentle when working with these type of children because we don’t always know what exactly the child has experienced or lost.
9. Resiliency The ability to cope and adapt to change. Children are very resilient but need the resources and support.
10. conclusion Children face many other issues other than the ones that have been stated. Peer pressure is a big issue in American middle and high schools. Bullying has became a huge issue and debate because children are now able to bully online, through text messages, etc. As a counselor, we must be in touch with the issues that face our youth in order to help them cope and overcome.
