These are the slides from a three hour session I did in January 2012 on how to use SQL Server 2008 (or any spatial database) with MapInfo Professional 11.0 (or any version of MapInfo Professional after version 10.0)
Presentation from a three hour session at the MUGUKI MapInfo User Group meeting in London June 25th.
During this session I covered how to setup a spatial database to be used from MapInfo Professional and a number of the benefits of using a spatial database.
We looked at how to:
- prepare a database to be used by MapInfo Professional
- access a spatial database from MapInfo Professional
- upload data to the spatial database using EasyLoader
- open tables from a spatial database from MapInfo Professional
- create views in a spatial database
- implement some triggers in the spatial database
- take advantage of the spatial database from MapBasic
Time to look under the hood.
Open up the MapBasic window to see how you can automate data processing and other tasks using MapInfo Professional.
You might find some great time savers in this session.
You do not need to be a programmer to benefit from these techniques.
This document provides a quick reference guide for a spreadsheet tool bar and menu options. It lists functions for creating new spreadsheets, opening and saving files, printing, editing cells, inserting pictures and sounds, sorting data, adding formulas, formatting text and cells, and searching clip art, word, and sound banks. Items from the banks can be inserted into cells with two single clicks.
Peter H. Møller presented ways to modify the MapInfo Professional user interface using MapBasic and .NET languages. MapBasic is a scripting language that allows automation of MapInfo tasks and modification of elements like menus and toolbars. The document discussed modifying the menu file to rearrange menus and add shortcut keys, building custom dialogs to collect user input, and using .NET languages like C# to create advanced windows and interfaces beyond modal dialogs. It provided examples and code snippets to demonstrate how to declare methods, build dialog controls, and call .NET assemblies from within MapBasic applications.

The Theme File
• Find the theme file C:Program FilesSirsiJwfProperty
• Copy a file you would like to change. This will be your backup
should you want to use it again
• You have to use one of the existing files because the selection list
in the Desktop Preferences window is hard‐coded with the
delivered themes
• Either pick one with a name that closest to what you intend to
end up with, or one that is at the top or bottom of the list, so
that it’s easy to remember which one is your custom colour
theme.
