Fixed-Price-Incentive Feed Contract
The fixed price incentive fee contract has ceiling price, which is expected to cover all potential
risk. After the allocated budget for the project is solidified then the profit sharing formula is put
into place. This profit sharing formula will help contractors to focus on controlling cost and
meeting project objectives in reasonable time line.
An example of fixed price incentive fee contract would be building a private Catholic school with
required performance requirements. The contractors will have incentives of completing the project
within the allocated budget and reaching performance goals. In this example, the fixed price
incentive fee contract will have a $5,000.00 incentive if contractors finished within projects
objective specifications. Now the contractors would focus on completing the quality measures of
the school below the ceiling price.
The fixed price incentive fee contract is a positive method to enhance feasible quality ... Show more

The cost plus incentive fee contract is completely different from the two previous contracts. This
contract is starts with a stated fee but offers the flexibility of requesting for additional charges for
incurred cost during the project. Which is very beneficial to the contractor because it will offer the
contractor the option to increase contracted amount in circumstance of unknown risk.
Now the unforeseen issues associated using this type of contract could be very risky for the
buyer. For example, a moving company agrees on stated price to relocate a local bakery into
another location. During the process of relocation the moving company discovers items mounted
on the wall; requiring additional tools and labor. Using this type of contract the moving company
would charge additional cost to complete this moving project. Now the seller is at a major
disadvantage due to the unknowns. The seller s disadvantage proves the last resource to be
sacrificed is the cost (Kerzner,

Amyotrophic Later Sclerosis Essay
There are many known diseases in the world that we live in today affecting a wide range of
individuals of different ages, ethnicities, and genders. With each type of disease comes a
diagnosis, prognosis, and potential for a cure from one of life s many ailments. Over the course of
time, technology has began to lead the way in discovering as well as treating many disease in
which doctors previously knew little about. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS), often referred to as
Lou Gehrig s disease, was first described in 1869 by French neurologist Jean Martin Charcot. In
1939 ALS brought international attention when Lou Gehrig abruptly retired from baseball after
being diagnosed with the disease(6). Today there are as many as 20,000... Show more content on

Once motor neurons die, the brain has an inability to initiate impulses and control muscle
movement of the body. Over the course of time as connections between muscles and nerves are
damage muscles will gradually become weaker, twitch, and atrophy. There are many symptoms
during the onset of ALS that are often overlooked that can include: Twitching, cramping, muscle
stiffness or weakness, slurred and or nasal speech, or difficulty chewing or swallowing. Each
patients symptoms vary depending on what muscles are damage first. Individuals can initially have
the lower extremities affected or the upper extremities as well as noticeable speech problems.
Damage to upper motor neurons can cause spastic muscles and contributes to an increase in
reflexes, such as the gag reflex(7). Muscles may become weaker, however, patients are still able to
perform voluntary muscle contractions with sensation still intact. Lower motor neuron damage is
linked to muscles weakness, atrophy, cramps, twitching, and a decline of reflexes(BOOK). As the
disease progresses throughout the patients body, they have increasing problems with muscle
movement, maintaining weight, speaking, and swallowing. As muscles of the respiratory system
weaken, patients also have difficulty breathing on their own and must depend on a ventilator

Police Corruption The law enforcement role has authority and power in any society, and often that
power is combined with the ability to make discretionary decisions that may profoundly affect the
lives of the people in the community. With abundant power and authority, the temptation for
corruption occurs. Policecorruption is one major type of police misconduct, and has been known
throughout history. According to Pollock (2012), police corruption does not occur just in the
United States (p. 175). It is well known that in Mexico many officers are corrupt. In Mexico, police
officers are induced and even coerced to collaborate with different drug dealers throughout the
country (Pollock, 2012). This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the streets are much safer and accidents can be avoided if the law is strictly and
fairly forced.
Graft
Graft occurs when officers exploit their role by accepting bribes or money in exchange for
protection (Pollock, 2012). Corrupt officers, for example, may use their uniformed authority to ask
for money from business owners or gangsters, with the implied threat of enforcement or difficulty
in conducting business as usual. Another police corruption pattern occurs when some police
officers engage criminal activities during their daily tasks until they change their career positions
from police to criminal cops (Pollock, 2012).
On Duty Use Alcohol and Drugs and Sexual Misconduct It is no secret that some officers use
alcohol and drugs while on duty. Although undercover officers are more likely to use alcohol
and drugs on duty, the on duty use of drugs and alcohol may be found in the deviant behavior of
regular patrol officers. Addiction to drugs and alcohol are potential sources of law enforcement
misconduct and corruption. It sets a bad example for public relations. It will certainly affect
judgment, and possibly lead to a greater likelihood of use of deadly force or officer involved
traffic accidents. Sexual misconduct occurs when officers use their authority as a means to receive
sexual acts from citizens or society. For example, a male officer pulls a beautiful motorist woman
over and offers to forego issuing a citation

Chivalry Knight Research Paper
The Chivalry Knight There are many disparities between William Thatcher and Count Adhemar.
So, is it because William protects the weak, becomes a Knight, or he jousts without armor in the
last tournament? What makes William the better knight than Count Adhemar? Remember that
William is a peasant at the beginning of the movie. Count Adhemar was already a noble, but
William was born a peasant and the ony way he could be a Peasant was to be born in to nobility.
William protects Wat, Roland, and the weak. How does he protect them? William protects his
people and the weak by pretending to be Sir Ector. The reason he pretends to be Sir Ector was
because Sir Ector was a knight and he died. William always dreamed of being a Knight. He had a
flashback of him and his father talking and he mentioned to his father about A man can change his
stars. Wat and Roland had not eaten in days, so that is when William decided, A man can change
his stars. The meaning of this phrase means a man can change his fate, faith, and destiny. While
pretending to be a knight, he practices for the jousting. William won the first joust. After winning
joust after joust he was rewarded with money. He gave the money to the poor and also he had
some money left to feed Wat and Roland.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ground, Adhemar could not believe he lost against William Thatcher. At the end, William won his

The Importance Of The Civil Rights Movement
Slavery was the hardest thing to abolish and make illegal in America throughout the years for
African Americans as well as lynching and discrimination. In 1863, it became illegal to own slaves
and practice lynching and physical abuse towards to the African American community. The one
thing that did not leave and still is around was racism and hatred. This is where the Civil Rights
movement became a change and a start for the freedom of the African Americancommunity. The
Civil Rights movement was more than just a movement it was a revolution; it was a change, it was
justice for the African American community. Many African Americans did not share same rights
and privilege as the white community had, African Americans did not get to drinking from the
same water fountains, use the same entrances to buildings or even use the same school busses.
Several women had an impact in helping advance the Civil rights movement, and three of them
were Rosa Parkswho gave African Americans hope for their rights, Daisy Bates desegregate
education and Ruby Nell Bridges an inspiration to people of all ages for her courage. Rosa Park
was an activist who worked alongside very astounding people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
after her very important boycott of the Montgomery buses, 12 years be before getting arrested she
had refused to go and stand towards the back of the bus when told to by the bus driver. She

Reasons To Follow Immigration Laws
Recently President Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has acted to follow the current
Immigrations Laws, set out by the United States Congress, by ending former President Obams
Executive Action order which was designed to supersede the law and provide amnesty for illegal
immigrants. I support this position for several reasons, one being that we must have laws in the
country to follow, we must follow the order of the U.S. Constitution and we must not allow people
to unfairly cut in line because they have children. Our founding fathers set up many of our policies
from following the teachings of very smart philosophers of the past. One such philosopher, John
Locke stated, The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve

Analysis Of The Novel Adirondack Sundown
Alexis O Dell
Mr. Mucilli/Mr. Simonds
24 October 2017 Adirondack Sundown Essay
Assignment
The Adirondack Park is a significant location in the novel Adirondack Sundown. Graham Scott
and Sarah Waters were picnicking one day at Rockwood State Forest when Graham suddenly had
to go back to work, Sarah stayed behind to take pictures of the scenery and then, she was abducted.
Many places in the Adirondacks are very significant to the story. Some places in the Adirondack
Park that are in the novel are Kane Mountain, Rockwood State Forest and Old Forge.
South of the Adirondack Park is where Kane Mountain is located. Kane Mountain was formed by
glaciers during the ice age. The mountain is between several lakes, including Pine Lake and
Canada Lake. The hike to the top of Kane Mountain is moderate in difficulty. There are many trails
that exist. The most commonly used trail is the East trail departing from Green Lake Road.
Kane Mountain plays a significant role in the novel because a character named Kane Johnson, who
abducted Sarah, and his sister Caroga lived here. The Kane Mountain Observation Station played a
huge role in the novel also.
The Kane Mountain Fire Observation Station is a historic location on Kane Mountain at Caroga
Lake in Fulton County, New York. The station includes a 60 foot tall, steel frame lookout tower
erected in 1925, an observer s cabin built about 1960, and foot trail. The tower and trail are
contributing resources. The tower is a prefabricated structure built by the Aermotor Corporation
and provided a front line of defense in preserving the Adirondack Forest Preserve from the hazards
of forest fires. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
The 858 acre Rockwood State Forest is located in Fulton County just south of the Adirondack
Blue Line between NY 29, NY 10A and NY 10. There are nearly five miles of old roads that are
used for cross country skiing in the winter as well as hiking the rest of the year. The main feature
of this state forest is the scenic Rockwood Lake, located off the North Loop Road Trail. The state
land is used for water quality protection, recreation, wildlife habitat and timber production. Some
characteristics of Rockwood would include, Hiking,

Substance Abuse And Low Education
It is no doubt that the Appalachian region is discredited of its merits, despite the perceived
negative social problems associated with the area. What many outsiders of the area fail to
acknowledge is that many of the same problems of Appalachia plague other regions of the United
States as well. In Appalachia, there are many problems that can be associated with the area and
usually the people from the area are grouped into a poor environment a lower socioeconomic
class. Across the region there is a wide social problem on low education rates and relatively high
substance abuse statistics. What others also fail to see is that the Appalachian region has a
plethora of services to offer along with a rich heritage embedded in its people. The good people of
the community have worked together to overcome the past and current issues of substance abuse
and low education by forming different groups to offer for the public to take part in.
Substance abuse is heavily associated with the region of Appalachia. Appalachian people are
looked at negatively for being categorized with drug and alcohol addictions. The issue has
increased since coal mining and other industrial work places are declining in the area
(Sodomick, 2014). People resort to drug trade to make profit since the career field is declining in
the area. Because substance abuse has become so popular, overdose and countless deaths have
occurred more often as well. The past few years, it has been a horrific trouble with the

Equality In Huck Finn
The grasping novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is written by the author Mark Twain.
It is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, on the banks of the Missouri River. Considering this novel
was most likely written in the mid 1800s, people are treated differently than others depending on
their skin color, gender, or religion. Twain wanted the protagonist, Huck Finn, to make a point of
equality. This is made obvious when Huck befriends an African American house slave, Jim.
Equality is a strong message in this novel: from the color of your skin, to your reading level, to
your social class. Huck has very strong opinions and feelings about everyone he encounters. The
novel begins with Huck living with the Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson.... Show more

Huck can no longer go to school because he can t be smarter than his own father. Because Pap
was so spiteful about Huck getting an education, he takes him away from the Widow to a shack,
away from civilization. Even though this was shocking and conniving to readers, Huck reacted
calmly. Huck unfortunately gets back into his old groove of things; wearing grimy clothes,
acting uncivilized, and obviously not going to school. This is the lifestyle Huck feels most
comfortable in since it s how he grew up, but Huck definitely didn t miss his father s alcoholism
and abusiveness. He gets so fed up with his father, that he ends up running away, although it took
quite a bit of time and planning. He s very anxious about his father finding him again, so he goes
to the extent of faking his own death. He floats down the river in a canoe, and on his trip, he runs

Haiti Earthquake Summary
This case study involves the troubled aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the unkept
promises made to Haiti by surrounding countries, most notably, the United States. The story
focuses on Pierre, the student of a state university in Florida, whose parents migrated to Florida
from Haiti in the mid 1970s. The passage begins with Pierre desperately voicing his concerns to his
professor for Haitiand the lack of involvement and compassion the outside world has for Haiti
during such devastating times. Although the United Statesis not the only country guilty of
unfulfilled promises to Haiti, most Haitians have directed their anger toward the US due of
feelings of betrayal (Pg. 115). America has a history of exploiting Haiti for self gain under the
disguise of aid , most notably in regard to Haiti s small scale farming. Haitians now rely on
imported US rice, a product they once grew for themselves. The US is also responsible for the
extermination of Haiti s 1.3 million pigs (Pg. 116). Americans have discriminated against Haitians

Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Power
Providing nearly two thirds of America s energy, nuclear power is stated to be the cleanest, most
reliable sources of energy known to man. Nuclear power, although a high maintenance system, has
many beneficial characteristics that help support the idea that nuclear energy has the capability of
supporting Earth s future generations with power. Nuclear poweris a healthier alternative to the
environment as it produces no greenhouse gases and uses no nonrenewable resources to produce its
power. Although there are many benefits to nuclear energy, the power plants of which the power is
produced in must be run in an orderly function with consequences of mistreatment leading to
disastrous situations with the potential affecting many. Despite the fact mishandling nuclear power
can lead to catastrophe, nuclear power has many benefits on the environment due to the idea fact
that nuclear power does not create any greenhouse gases, and uses no nonrenewable resources to
create its energy.
Nuclear energy can be a brilliant alternative to nonrenewable resources however, it can lead to a
disaster of epic proportions when something goes wrong. Nuclear energy relies largely on human
interactions within the plant, which has been proven to lead to complications with drastic
consequences. In 1986 the world s largest nuclear power incident took place at the Chernobyl

Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration Essay
Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration: A Rhetorical and Literary Analysis
The pen is mightier than the sword. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen
ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence
generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is
more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and
successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet;
his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration
were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect
himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from
his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero
uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I
will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by
commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics.
According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and
epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory
category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric

Aids in the Bahamas
AIDS in Bahamians, ages 15 44
A major cause of death of Bahamians in the age group 15 to 44 is AIDS. This is a result of
unprotected sex, ignorance and the reluctancy to get tested and treated. Many Bahamians engage in
sexual intercourse without the use of contraceptives. Ignorant to the dangers of AIDS, they believe

After interviewing Ms. Sandra Smith, age 21, it was found that she was a prime example of a
young Bahamian engaging in reckless unprotected sex adding to the AIDS epidemic. Ms. Smith

had sex with them all without using protection . When Ms. Smith was asked why she did not use a

Why Women Still CanT Have It All By Anne-Marie Slaughter

Slaughter is a very successful women who had worked for Hillary Clinton at the state department

up between herself and a colleague who held a senior position in the White House. She tells her
colleague that is has been very difficult for her to be away from her son at work, when he needs her
at home. At this point Slaughter comes up with the idea to write an article about these struggles she

This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough
time to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against
having children altogether. Slaughter also includes examples of some very successful women that
have struggled to raise a family due to the fact that they are so limited with time, while most
successful men, if not all, are still able to balance the time of have a family and a high end job.
It s easy to understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around.
Even if they find a very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom
while also doing their overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very
interesting quote halfway through her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin,
(a lady who resigned after only two years in order to spend more time with her children.) Matalin
says, having control of your schedule is the only way that women who want a career and a
family can make it work. Quote from The Atlantic. In the article Why Men Still Can t Have It

The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith

GESM 110

The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is
inherently morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal
in Woody Allen s Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff s Hunters in the
Snow, and the Grandma and The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find,
the traditional sides of good and bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen
throughout these pieces is the role of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death
situation or in general, and that the question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a
simple one. As the idiom there is more than meets the eye suggests, there has yet to be a completely
pure, good human, despite how they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other
characters, The Misfit is the best character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the
story requires complex analysis, as the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and
the grandmother. The Misfit is first introduced in the first paragraph of O Connor s short story, as
Grandma tells her family of the notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O Connor 1042).
While a fair assumption, The Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral
individual. He then is not mentioned until right before Pitty

The Rise Of Democracy Throughout Europe Essay
The Rise of Democracy in Europe The rise of democracy within Europe was vital to the importance
of the individual, and was marked by a transition from the governing by one feudal lord, to the
governing by an elected official. This transition brought change not only to humanistic thinking, but
also enabled mankind to have basic human rights which improved life for the country s citizens.
This shift of thinking to the rights of individuals was spurred by the Protestant Reformationand the
creation of the social contractwhich enabled a perfect atmosphere for the rise of democracy within
Europe. During the feudal system, military lords ruled the people with little regard for human
rights. The people were used only as pawns for the wellbeing of the feudal system and were seen as
such, but with the rise of an economy based on money instead of land, the feudal system began to
rapidly decline. As the feudal system dwindled away, the individual rights of man increased with
the rise of the market economy, which in turn propelled the spirit of democracy within the people
(International Center for Peace and Development ). While money began to circulate within this new
type of economy, the financial stability of the monarchs began to collapse, while the merchant class
was becoming wealthy. This transition of wealth tore down the stronghold that had suppressed the
population during the feudal system, and allowed the wealthy merchant power to become important
political figures.

Feudalism And The Middle Ages
Feudalism In The Middle Ages
When people conjure images of the Middle Ages, people think of chaos, war, and little
improvement. In fact, much of this is true. During the Middle Ages, a system called the Feudal
System was formed to maintain order. It might have made life tough for peasants, but it kept
nobles, or upper class people, rich and in power. The Feudal System greatly affected daily life for
everyone, but, in time, it collapsed.
The constant chaos of the Middle Ages caused the Feudal System to be invented. During this time
period, kingdoms in modern day western Europe were under constant threat from invading nations.
Most kingdoms had been too large to have just a single figure of power, so Feudalism developed.
Feudalism came mostly due to a single king s inability to protect his land by himself (King 26).
Another reason was that before the fall of the Roman Empire, an established and powerful
entity, the leaders of kingdoms had strong bonds with their people. When the Roman Empire
fell, there was no single strong power other than the Pope, and the ties between the leaders and
the people broke (Pei). Without these ties, people and their Lords weren t as friendly as before.
With no strong power in place, defenses were needed. This is how the Feudal classes came to be,
as knights swore to support their lord militarily and their lord swore to protect them (Pei). Because
of the constant need for defenses, classes formed: kings, to rule; lords, to control villages;

Thomas Paine s Impact On American Society And Culture
Thomas Paine had a great impact on American society during the time of the American Revolution.
Because of this, Thomas Paine has had more impact on American society and culture than any other
person in history for the three following reasons; he wrote Common Sense , a pamphlet advocating
for independence from Britain, The American Crisis , another pamphlet to encourage soldiers to
keep fighting, and he was the editor of the Pennsylvania Magazine. Without Paine we might still be
under British control.
Thomas Paine published Common Sense in 1776 to encourage the colonies to gain independence
from Great Britain. Common Sense turned out to be just the push the colonists needed to set the
plan in action and begin the quest for independence. Paine argues that the colonists have little to

Everett Rogers Diffusion Of Innovations
Diffusion of Innovations seeks to explain how innovations and social changes are taken up in a
segmented group of people. An innovation is considered as either an idea, behavior, or object that
is perceived as new by the receiving audience. According to author Everett Rogers, Diffusion of
Innovations offers three valuable insights into the process of social change which include: what
qualities make certain innovations spread rapidly than others, the value of peer peer conversations
and peer networks during social changes, and assessing and understanding the needs of different
individuals in a specific population. In the book, Diffusion of Innovations, the focus is not on the
people who change, but the innovations themselves. The clip I chose to analyze for this assignment

American Fur Trade
There are a plethora of news sites, organizations, and establishments, all within the American fur
trade, that enjoy deceiving the general public with claims of a humane and safe fur trade. While
these claims seem to hold credibility, they fall flat once challenged with heavy evidence of cruelty
and peril. The furtrade should be outright banned from the United Statesas it excludes humane
methods of euthanasia, utilizes wretched methods of confinement, and as it acts as an extreme
health hazard. Trappers, farmers, retail stores, and any individual who accommodates this cruelty,
fails to take into consideration the lives of millions of animals, as well as their own health.

Because of the fact that fur sheared from a dead animal will rot, manufacturers fight off decay
through the application of a slew of chemicals that are designed to prevent decomposition. The
main processing chemicals used are formaldehyde and chromium which are both linked to cancers,
such as leukemia. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, in the United States,
has previously fined six fur processing plants for causing high levels of pollution and for using
solvents in fur dressing that may cause respiratory problems... (Hoskins, Tansy. Is the Fur Trade
Sustainable? The Guardian. Guardian News and Media, 29 Oct. 2013. Web. 20 Mar. 2016.). Even
more unacceptable is the fact that fur production is unregulated. This leads to the incorrect labeling
of fur clothing which essentially leaves consumers ignorant about the severe chemicals that are
exposed. This horrid fashion statement not only threatens animals, even those that existed in
tremendous numbers, with extinction, but also threatens consumers with respiratory issues and
cancer. Essentially, both humans and animals encounter ultimate death as it has been found that fur
clothing contains carcinogens, which is any substance that is directly involved in causing cancer.
Altogether, it is more than apparent that the hazardous fur trade causes a greater amount of harm
than good.

`` A Cyborg Manifesto `` By Manfred E. Clynes And Nathan...
The cyborg figure is a common fixture in both science and science fiction. The term, coined by
Manfred E. Clynes and Nathan S. Kline in 1960, refers to an organism with enhanced functionality
due to the incorporation of a mechanical component (Clynes and Kline, 27). The animal machine
hybrid was a figuration and embodiment of the modern era s lust for technology as a means of
pushing the human towards what was often militaristic and capitalist ideals. However, in her
groundbreaking essay A Cyborg Manifesto , Donna Harawayappropriates the patriarchal cyborg
figure for feminist purposes, drawing on its composited ontology as a model for female liberation.
Her essay posits a psychological escape from the dualisms that hamper the female sense of self,
through its account of boundary breakdowns and its rejection of totalized identity. This
psychological escape becomes active politically when applied to challenge the authority of the
physical acts of oppression where these dualisms often manifest. However, the manifesto s inability
to entirely account for cultural differentialism within feminismcauses it to fall somewhat under
Haraway s goal of promoting the particular female self.
First published in 1985 as part of The Socialist Review and later updated in 1991 as part of her
anthology of essays Simians, Cyborgs, and Women (the latter of which will be the version
analyzed), Donna Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto constructs a feminist call to action by situating a

The Safety Practices Of Motorcycle Accidents
Imagine the ripple effect created by losing a fellow service member, friend, or loved one due to a
motorcycle accident. Senior enlisted leaders should understand the significance of motorcycle
accidents because they have a large impact on all branches of the U.S. military. This paper will
cover the problem motorcycle accidentspresent to the military, discuss some of the safety practices
currently in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to
help reduce motorcycle accident deaths.
Problem
Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved
one is already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training,
knowledge, and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service
as shown when the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief
Sutton, who passed away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016).
Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From
1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the
military, with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance
Branch, 2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle
related accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor

The Treaty of Versailles
In 1919 at the Paris Peace Conference The Treaty of Versailles was formally drafted and World
War I was finally brought to an end. The treaty was drafted by the Allied Powers, which consisted
of Great Britain, France and the United States. This treaty blamed the war solely on Germany, and
it required them to pay an amount of $33 billion dollars in reparations, cede all of colonies,
dismantle their air force, and greatly reduce their other military operations (German Delegation,
291).
The German army was reduced to 100,000 men, and they were not allowed to have access to any
tanks for their military. They were only given permission in the treaty to only be granted access to
6 capital naval ships to help defend their coastline, but they were not given any access to
submarines which would help them attack, or become undetected. They were also to agree that the
area that was to the west of the Rhineland and the area that was 50 kms east of the River Rhine was
to be made into a demilitarized zone or (DMZ). A (DMZ) is an area of which no German
soldiers or German aiding weapons are to be allowed. The Allies had agreed that they were to
keep a standard army occupied on the west bank of the Rhine for 15 years to be able to hold up
these treaty agreements. Also, during the drafting of this treaty, Germanywas not allowed to give

The struggle for the person that Percy describes in The Loss of the Creature is displayed by

Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Committee ( Tarc ) Essay
The Turkish government arguing the validity of the history has been under discussion as far as the
genocide. As they argue history is subjective therefore, it is not a fact that the genocide ever
happened. They ve asserted that the genocide is some idea brought about by historians that have
tried to sensationalize things so they can make a name for themselves. According to Theriault there
is a Turkish and an Armenian view of the history and each are extreme with either of them being
more valid than the other. Theriault goes on to talk about the Turkish Armenian Reconciliation
Committee (TARC) and how it was an ill fated initiative based on the idea that resolution of the
tension between Armeniansand Turks could be accomplished through a negotiated settlement of the
various issues each side perceived as important, including the history of 1915. These tactics were
used so that the Turkish government would seem like they were trying to aid in the Armenian

Summary Of Jean-Jacques Rousseau And Mary Wollstonecraft
Eighteenth century Europe was an incredibly repressive environment for women. Patriarchal
expectations governed not only women s physical and legal rights, but even inhibited their
emotional states. Women were limited solely to the domestic sphere while their brothers, fathers,
husbands, and sons pursued livelihoods outside the home. For a woman to be dissatisfied with the
status quo and yearn for greater purpose than just raising children and obeying a husband was
considered abnormal and unfeminine. Women had very few choices in life and very few
opportunities to assert themselves, but they found that exploiting men through sex and romance
was an effective way to gain some form of autonomy. Two influential political and philosophical
authors of the time, Jean Jacques Rousseauand Mary Wollstonecraft, both found this kind of
manipulation to be a prevalent issue. However, while Rousseau believes that this behavior proves
women s cunning and inferior natures, Wollstonecraft is more forgiving. She argues that if the
sexes were equal, women would not be forced to derive power by influencing men.
In Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, published in 1755, Rousseau attempts to answer the
question of what causes suffering in society. Throughout his treatise, when referring to the human
race as a whole, he uses the word man. The masculine vernacular was an continues to be common
shorthand for humankind, but in this particular case, it is significant. It indicates Rousseau s

Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the
US steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce
their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a
tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of
the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately
though, that hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even
higher prices to come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for
their well being. With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all
shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it
is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of.
Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of
the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business
owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us,
the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on
our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade
policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for
import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a
result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective
tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the
expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from
foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in
domestic government policies and could

Despite agreeing with the description about the dinosaur provided in the reading passage, the
speaker claims that the hypothesis to justify the uses of the Dinosaur s crest are not entirely true
and he provides new conclusions about those three presented hypothesis.
Firstly, while in the reading passage it is stated that the Dinosaur s crest could be used to support
the sense of smell of the Dinosaur, the speaker casts doubt on this assumption. The speaker claims
that the brain structure of the Dinosaur was not developed enough for sensing the smell through the
crest. Therefore, the speaker believes that it wouldn t be likely that the dinosaurs had used their
crest to boost their sense of smell.
Secondly, in the reading passage it is proposed

Privilege Level And No Proper Fault Containment
privilege level and no proper fault containment, any bug might be fatal. A malfunctioning third
party device driver, for example, can easily destroy key data structures and take down the entire
system. That this scenario is a serious threat follows from the observation that the majority of
operating system crashes are caused by device drivers [7, 25]. Yet another problem is that the
immense size of monolithic kernels makes them very complex and hard to fully understand.
Without a global understanding of the kernel even the most experienced programmers can easily
introduce faults by not being aware of some peculiar sideeffect of their actions. At the other extreme
is the minimal kernel, which contains only the barest mechanism, but no... Show more content on

We have implemented drivers for IDE, floppy, and RAM disks, keyboards, displays, audio,
printers, and various Ethernet cards. Above the driver layer are the server processes. These
include the file server, process server, network server, information server, reincarnation server,
and others. On top of the servers come the ordinary user processes, including shells, compilers,
utilities, and application programs. With a small number of minor exceptions, the servers and
drivers are normal user processes. To avoid any ambiguity, we note again that each server and
driver runs as a separate user process with its own address space completely disjoint from the
address spaces of the kernel and other servers, drivers, and user processes. In our design,
processes do not share any virtual address space and can only communicate with each other
using the IPC mechanisms that are provided by the kernel. This point is crucial to the reliability
as it prevents faults in one server or driver from spreading to a different one, in exactly the same
way that a bug in a compilation going on in one process cannot affect what a browser in a
different process is doing. In user mode, the operating system processes are restricted in what they
can do. Therefore, to support the servers and drivers in performing their tasks, the kernel exports a
number of kernel calls that authorized processes can make. Device drivers, for

The Fallibility Of Human Reason In The Kite Runner
The fallibility of human reason is critical within the novel, and most pronounced in the eventually
fatal decision of letting the goat herders go without consequence. Twenty minutes prior, Luttrell and
his mates were moving through the Afghani mountain range, looking for the optimal surveillance
position, they could have never predicted or trained for Afghani goatherders, two adults, one boy,
and approximately one hundred goats, to stumble upon their position. A situation such as this is
precisely what Talib called a black swan, in his book titled after the term, a truly impossible to
predict occurrence. After deliberating amongst themselves, they decided against killing the three, as
Luttrell s Christian beliefs, and his great fear of the liberal media backlash prevented him. Because

What if they tied them to trees and left them there? What if they threw them off of the cliff ledge
that would assuredly kill them? There are an infinite number of possibilities, and an equally
infinite number of outcomes. Neither the reader, nor can Luttrell ever know the answers to these
questions. However, a famous 20th century physicist devised a thought experiment to explain a
predicament such as this. Erwin Schrodinger, a famous Austrian theoretical physicist, devised a
thought experiment to illuminate the faults in quantum theory, a new proposition in physics at
the time. The experiment goes like this: a cat is placed in a closed box with radioactive material,
a Geiger counter, a hammer, a glass flask of poisonous gas, and a timer set for one hour. At the
hour mark, the radioactive material has exactly a 50/50 chance of emitting a particle (radioactive
decay). If so, the hammer will be released, smashing the flask of poison, and killing the

Macbeth Imagery Blood
Blood Imagery in Macbeth
Shakespeare s plays are well known for the richness of their imagery. This is particularly true in
Macbeth and the many allusions to blood. The use of blood imagery gives the reader some
foresight into what is going on in the play and how the characters are thinking and feeling. Blood
is used to represent heroics on the battlefield, evil and murderous inclinations, and ultimately guilt
and shame. Shakespeare uses the symbol of blood to give the readers insight into his characters
as they change and are impacted by their choices and actions. This paper will demonstrate how
Shakespeare uses the image of blood as a symbol of bravery, guilt and evil citing directly from the
text of Macbeth. Act one Scene Two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth goes from being a heroic general in the king s army to an assassin and a tyrant.
Through the looking glass Macbeth seems as bloody as he could be, yet at the core he feels
unruly guilt Like a child, Macbeth attempts to run away from his problems, yet he has no where
to go. He now realizes what he has done is against his own morals, knee deep in guilt, and
attempts to figure out his problems with his wife. Blood symbolizes honor and bravery and also
guilt and evil.
In the beginning of the play blood is represented of honor and bravery and symbolizes good and
victory The play starts out with the 3 witches talking about Macbeth. Macbeth is now a great
hero because he led the Scottish army to victory. For the recognition of Macbeth s leadership he
becomes Thane of Cawdor. The witches make many predictions to Macbeth and they all come
true. Shakespear stated For brave Macbeth well he deserves that name Disdaining fortune, with
his brandished steel,Which smoked with bloody execution (I,2,16 18). This showed that the
Captain truly respects Macbeth and that he is a heroic soldier. Towards the middle of the play
blood represented guilt. At this point of the play. A bell trings and Lady Macbeth signals that the
chamberlains are asleep so Macbeth strides toward Duncan s chamber. Macbeth was pressured
into killing King Duncan by his wife,Lady Macbeth, and does not feel good about it. Shakespear

The purpose of this memo is to analyze the budget and highlight any concerns based on our
discussion. Activity based costing was used in the preparation of the budget, its advantages over
the traditional cost accounting method will also be discussed. Budget Analysis We have provided
you with a cash budget and a segmented income statement. The budget reflects monthly forecasts
for all sources of cash receipts and disbursements for the brewery. The segmented analysis outlines
the overall profitability of each product line net of tax and amortization. From a cash flow
perspective, the brewery is cash positive right from the beginning. This can occur because payment

The results from ABC can be used to improve control of overhead while providing valuable
information for strategic decisions like pricing and capacity management. ABC was considered
throughout the preparation of the budget. We first identified the cost objective as the product line
including; Premium Pale Ale, Blonde Lager, Harvest Lager, and Premium Lager. We then
identified activities and cost drivers to complement our objective. They were as follows:
ActivityDriver(s) Sales demandNumber of cases sold Brewing materials, machinery, and
supervisionDirect materials used, Machine hours, Direct labour hours Shipping and
logisticsTransportation expenses Contract growthCommissions paid General company
administrationNo cost driver (organization sustaining) Indirect costs that could not be traced
back directly to the income statement were then assigned to cost pools by activity. The cost for
each activity were then divided by the total volume of the cost driver and assigned to the cost
objectives. Ultimately, the use of ABC in its budget processes adds considerable potential benefit
to Desert Valley but will be costly to maintain and monitor effectively. We recommend that a CFO

The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights

Mr. Kula
November 18th, 2014
CLAIM: The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights.
The administration of President Vladimir Putin has chosen to abridge civil liberties in Russia and
demolish the growing power of nongovernmental democratic institutions. The government has
embarked on a strategy crush any opposing viewpoints and reinforce its own dominance. In July
2012, Vladimir Putin went into action to suppress the basic human rights of Russians. The three
fundamental freedoms of assembly, association and speech were treated to fierce legal restriction.
The Government chose to ignore parliamentary procedures and numerous protests; many experts
believe, that the new laws governing demonstrations, NGOs [non governmental organisations], the
libel and the legal regulation of the Internet are proof that these three rights have not only been
restricted, but effectively terminated.
In the case of the homophobic laws, the government s motives are clear: to mobilise the support of
the most conservative section of Russian society. This primitive law that bans the so called
promotion of homosexuality , which openly institutes legal discrimination based on sexual identity.
In Russia there is severe criticism of homosexuality. Homosexuals are publicly abused with the
tormentors facing no legal punishment. LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender] people
are being targeted by anti gay propaganda and foreign agent laws; tormentors claim to be

Historical References to Faust Essay
Historical References to Faust
Faust I
Prologue in Heaven
В· The scene begins with the Three Archangels, Raphael, Gabriel, and
Michael, confessing their inability to comprehend the awe inspiring works of God.In the Christian
tradition, archangels are angels of the highest rank and are associated with certain functions or
responsibilities. In Prologue in Heaven, they personify the cosmos:
Raphael describes and represents the heavens, Gabriel the earth, and
Michael the elements.
В· Mephistopheles.Goethe s devil is inspired by a number of different literary sources, not just
Christian.

Outside the Town Gate
В· The days of evil the Old Peasant mentions refer to the plague. In the 14th century, when the
plague was known as the Black Death, it claimed the lives of one quarter of the population of
Europe. The plague reoccurred frequently throughout Europe in subsequent centuries. В· The author
of the Book of Revelations in the Bible writes: they that do [the Lord s] commandments ... may
enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers (Rev. 22: 14 15).It is
therefore significant that a dog joins Faust outside the city gates in this scene.
Faust s Study (I)
В· The text that Faust attempts to translate is the first verse of the Gospel of John, which reads: In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Faust s Study (II)
В· The pact that Faust makes with Mephisto in Goethe s Faust is unique. In earlier versions of the
legend, Mephisto promises to serve
Faust if Faust promises to give Mephisto his soul. But here, Mephisto only gains possession of
Faust s soul if Faust ceases to strive.

The patch antenna, microstrip transmission line and ground plane are made of high conductivity
metal (typically copper). The patch is of length L, width W, and sitting on top of a substrate (some
dielectric circuit board) of thickness h with permittivity. The thickness of the ground plane or of the
microstrip is not critically important. Typically the height h is much smaller than the wavelength of
operation, but not much smaller than 0.05 of a wavelength.

The Perfect Number
People often wonder, What is the perfect number? What they do not know is that there is more
than just one perfect number; there are many. Today s research tells us that there are forty eight
perfect numbers. A perfect number is a number that is equal to the sum of its positive divisors,
excluding its self. 6=1+2+3 28=1+2+4+7+1418=1+2+3+6+9 (= 21)
To answer the question of what a perfect number is you need to know how to solve for a perfect
number, who has been involved in coming up with perfect numbers, the criteria, and interesting
facts about perfect numbers. Perfect numbers are more complex than just deciding whether a
number is considered perfect or not. First, what you have to do to get a perfect number. Every
scholar has invented their own formula to result in a perfect number. The most common formula
is to take the factors of a number and add them together. If the sum of the factors, except the
number itself, results in the original number then the number is perfect. Euclid invented a
formula that is also used to solve for perfect numbers: 2p 1 (2p 1) Ex.1: 21 (22 1)= 6Ex.2: 22 (23
1)= 28
In this formula p stands for a prime number, therefore in the first example two is the prime number
being used. You have two as the base because this is what the formula calls for, and then you
subtract one from your prime number, two, to get two to the first power. Then inside your
parenthesis you have two to the second power, the base taken from the formula

Fatty Liver Disease
The risks of consuming sugar do not end with diabetes; studies have also reported sugars
connection to Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Typically, liver disease is seen as a
result of the over consumption of alcohol, but sugar can also have a similar effect on the liver. As
previously described, when glucoseis consumed it is dispersed throughout the body via insulin and
the extra is sent to the liver to be stored. Glucose consumed at low to moderate levels will not have
an overly detrimental effect on the liver. Fructose, however, circumvents insulin and is directed
straight to the liver (Stanhope, SugarConsumption... ). When the fructose reaches the liver it is
stored as fat cells, which build up over time and cause a stress response... Show more content on

Though there is truth in this statement, as aforementioned, if sugar truly is addictive as shown in
some studies, there may be a correlation between overeating and sugar. Even more concerning, in
recent years, there have been multiple discussions arising concerning the sugar industry s
involvement in skewing research conducted on the effects of sugar. These exposГ©s found in
both scholarly journals as well as in publications like Time Magazine suggest great lengths have
been made to hide the negative impacts of sugar from the public. In the article Sugar Industry
Influence on Dental Health Policy Examined, Karen Rosenberg writes, The researchers found a
consistent pattern of efforts by the sugar industry to divert attention away from limiting sugar
intake. Why would the sugar industry try to prevent this information from spreading? Money is
most likely the answer. The sugar industry is a twenty four billion dollar industry worldwide, a
market that would be greatly harmed if sugar stopped being consumed at excessive rates (Keating,
The World Sweetener... ). In recent years, the medical world has begun to address the links to sugar
and poor health. An article written to optometrist doctors (OD) writes, Dennis Ruskin, OD, FAAO,
opened with a frontal assault on the U.S. food industry and government regulatory agencies for not

Evaluation Of A Research Review
Systematic Research Review

NR 505: Advanced Research Methods
September 2016
Systematic Research Review As advancements are made in science and technology that relates
to the care of patients, it is critical for nurses to be aware of the treatments that have been proven
to be evidence based. Systematic research reviews (SRR) are considered to have the highest
ranking or level of evidence falling under level 1 evidence for reliability, validity, and least amount
of error (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2015, p.607). The aim of this paper is to critique the chosen
SRR related to core temperature obtainment in children, relevance of the research problem to
nursing practice, rigor of the research found in the SRR to include levels of evidence and designs
of included studies, the clarity of findings, summarized findings in the SRR, and the implications
for practice.
Relevance of the Research Problem The proper yet least invasive route to perform the measurement
of a core temperature in children has been an ongoing debate. Common methods or routes include
axillary or in the armpit area, oral, rectal, tympanic, and temporal. Proper temperature measurement
with an accurate result is important for diagnosis and treatment, especially in febrile children. False
positive measurements can lead to extensive and unnecessary diagnostic testing while false
negatives can lead to under treatment in a fragile population, which is why the

PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body
PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body
My girlfriend s brother, Mary served in the Marines for four years. In those four years, he made
three combat tours and four other small deployments. During his first trip to Iraq, he was severely
injured in a land mine accident. He was the only one out of the other three soldiers in the tank that
survived. The accident left him with a severe brain injury and partly blind in his left eye. Mary
was in an Iraqi hospital for about two weeks. He then decided to continue with his duty of being
of Marine. This accident, along with losing close friends, and seeing others die, has left him
traumatized. Although, his PTSD is not as severe as other solders, it still affects him in his day to
day activities.
PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. According to a medical dictionary, PTSD is a
debilitating psychological condition triggered by a major traumatic, such as war, death of a loved
one, a natural disaster, or rape . It is triggered by upsetting memories or thoughts of the incident. For
example; Veterans returning home from a war often have PTSD.
The cause of PTSD is unknown. The factors involved are psychological, genetic, physical, and
social. Post traumatic stress disorder changes the body s response to stress. It affects the stress
hormones and chemicals that carry information between the nerves. It is not known why traumatic
events cause PTSD in some people and not others. But studies have shown that having a

The House On Mango Street And The Things They Carried
What s the difference between a young Hispanic girl and a soldier in the Vietnam War? It sounds
like a bad joke with an even worse punchline, but though there may be many true answers to this
question, there are more similarities than one might imagine. These similarities can be observed in
Sandra Cisneros The Houseon Mango Street and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried and their
main characters, Esperanza and O Brien, respectively. Both novels divided into non chronological
stories, both involve characters who feel stuck in their situations, and both realize the importance of
returning for the people they left behind. At their most basic levels, The House on Mango Street
and The Things They Carried are both broken down into stories, which, although some reference
events and characters in other stories, do not follow a definite chronological order. The title story in
The Things They Carried, for instance, places its characters in the Vietnamwar, but in no specific
year of the war, or place in Vietnam. The next story, Love, begins with the words Many years
after the war (O Brien 26), placing it definitely outside of Vietnam in O Brien s home in
Massachusetts, in fact. The next story, Spin, however, goes back to the men of Alpha Company
together in Vietnam. O Brien even makes it easy to guess that the focus is back on Vietnam, as
the first sentence of this story is The war wasn t all terror and violence (O Brien 30). The stories in

Inmate Tattoos Police Corruption The law enforcement role has authority and power in any society, and often that power is combined with the ability to make discretionary decisions that may profoundly affect the lives of the people in the community. With abundant power and authority, the temptation for corruption occurs. Policecorruption is one major type of police misconduct, and has been known throughout history. According to Pollock (2012), police corruption does not occur just in the United States (p. 175). It is well known that in Mexico many officers are corrupt. On the other hand, the streets are much safer and accidents can be avoided if the law is strictly and fairly forced. Graft Graft occurs when officers exploit their role by accepting bribes or money in exchange for protection (Pollock, 2012). Corrupt officers, for example, may use their uniformed authority to ask for money from business owners or gangsters, with the implied threat of enforcement or difficulty in conducting business as usual. Another police corruption pattern occurs when some police officers engage criminal activities during their daily tasks until they change their career positions from police to criminal cops (Pollock, 2012). On Duty Use Alcohol and Drugs and Sexual Misconduct It is no secret that some officers use alcohol and drugs while on duty. Although undercover officers are more likely to use alcohol and drugs on duty, the on duty use of drugs and alcohol may be found in the deviant behavior of regular patrol officers. Addiction to drugs and alcohol are potential sources of law enforcement misconduct and corruption. It sets a bad example for public relations. It will certainly affect judgment, and possibly lead to a greater likelihood of use of deadly force or officer involved traffic accidents. • 8. The Importance Of The Civil Rights Movement Slavery was the hardest thing to abolish and make illegal in America throughout the years for African Americans as well as lynching and discrimination. In 1863, it became illegal to own slaves and practice lynching and physical abuse towards to the African American community. The one thing that did not leave and still is around was racism and hatred. This is where the Civil Rights movement became a change and a start for the freedom of the African Americancommunity. The Civil Rights movement was more than just a movement it was a revolution; it was a change, it was justice for the African American community. Many African Americans did not share same rights and privilege as the white community had, African Americans did not get to drinking from the same water fountains, use the same entrances to buildings or even use the same school busses. Several women had an impact in helping advance the Civil rights movement, and three of them were Rosa Parkswho gave African Americans hope for their rights, Daisy Bates desegregate education and Ruby Nell Bridges an inspiration to people of all ages for her courage. Rosa Park was an activist who worked alongside very astounding people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after her very important boycott of the Montgomery buses, 12 years be before getting arrested she had refused to go and stand towards the back of the bus when told to by the bus driver. Reasons To Follow Immigration Laws Recently President Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has acted to follow the current Immigrations Laws, set out by the United States Congress, by ending former President Obams Executive Action order which was designed to supersede the law and provide amnesty for illegal immigrants. I support this position for several reasons, one being that we must have laws in the country to follow, we must follow the order of the U.S. Constitution and we must not allow people to unfairly cut in line because they have children. Our founding fathers set up many of our policies from following the teachings of very smart philosophers of the past. • 10. Analysis Of The Novel Adirondack Sundown Alexis O Dell Mr. Mucilli/Mr. Simonds 24 October 2017 Adirondack Sundown Essay Assignment The Adirondack Park is a significant location in the novel Adirondack Sundown. Graham Scott and Sarah Waters were picnicking one day at Rockwood State Forest when Graham suddenly had to go back to work, Sarah stayed behind to take pictures of the scenery and then, she was abducted. Many places in the Adirondacks are very significant to the story. Some places in the Adirondack Park that are in the novel are Kane Mountain, Rockwood State Forest and Old Forge. South of the Adirondack Park is where Kane Mountain is located. Kane Mountain was formed by glaciers during the ice age. The mountain is between several lakes, including Pine Lake and Canada Lake. The hike to the top of Kane Mountain is moderate in difficulty. There are many trails that exist. The most commonly used trail is the East trail departing from Green Lake Road. Kane Mountain plays a significant role in the novel because a character named Kane Johnson, who abducted Sarah, and his sister Caroga lived here. The Kane Mountain Observation Station played a huge role in the novel also. The Kane Mountain Fire Observation Station is a historic location on Kane Mountain at Caroga Lake in Fulton County, New York. The station includes a 60 foot tall, steel frame lookout tower erected in 1925, an observer s cabin built about 1960, and foot trail. The tower and trail are contributing resources. The tower is a prefabricated structure built by the Aermotor Corporation and provided a front line of defense in preserving the Adirondack Forest Preserve from the hazards of forest fires. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The 858 acre Rockwood State Forest is located in Fulton County just south of the Adirondack Blue Line between NY 29, NY 10A and NY 10. There are nearly five miles of old roads that are used for cross country skiing in the winter as well as hiking the rest of the year. The main feature of this state forest is the scenic Rockwood Lake, located off the North Loop Road Trail. The state land is used for water quality protection, recreation, wildlife habitat and timber production. Some characteristics of Rockwood would include, Hiking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Substance Abuse And Low Education It is no doubt that the Appalachian region is discredited of its merits, despite the perceived negative social problems associated with the area. What many outsiders of the area fail to acknowledge is that many of the same problems of Appalachia plague other regions of the United States as well. In Appalachia, there are many problems that can be associated with the area and usually the people from the area are grouped into a poor environment a lower socioeconomic class. Across the region there is a wide social problem on low education rates and relatively high substance abuse statistics. What others also fail to see is that the Appalachian region has a plethora of services to offer along with a rich heritage embedded in its people. • 12. Equality In Huck Finn The grasping novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is written by the author Mark Twain. It is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri, on the banks of the Missouri River. Considering this novel was most likely written in the mid 1800s, people are treated differently than others depending on their skin color, gender, or religion. Twain wanted the protagonist, Huck Finn, to make a point of equality. This is made obvious when Huck befriends an African American house slave, Jim. Equality is a strong message in this novel: from the color of your skin, to your reading level, to your social class. Huck has very strong opinions and feelings about everyone he encounters. As a youth, I disagreed with this statement. How could a pen ever defeat a sword? Over time, I have come to understand how words and speech can influence generations more than just fear or force. Cicero s speeches are prime examples of how rhetoric is more powerful than military prowess or use of arms. His rhetoric influenced public policy and successive generations. Unlike Caesar and Pompey, he had no significant military command yet; his reputation was just as strong. Cicero s general objectives in the First Catilinarian Oration were to portray Catiline as a traitor, achieve support for an action against Catiline, and protect himself from any repercussions. To demonstrate this rhetoric I will analyze sections 3 and 4 from his First Catilinarian Oration. I have choses these sections because they best show how Cicero uses rhetoric to achieve his objective. In order to classify and understand Cicero s rhetoric, first I will define the kinds of speech and parts of rhetoric. Second, I will analyze his rhetoric by commenting on his chosen rhetorical techniques and topics. According to Aristotle, there are three kinds of speech: deliberative oratory, forensic oratory, and epideictic oratory. Cicero s First Catilinarian Oration falls mainly under the deliberative oratory category but, has elements of forensic and epideictic oratory. Deliberative oratory is any rhetoric ... • 23. The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith Benjy Herrmann Paper #3 October 27, 2016 GESM 110 12:30 1:50 TTh The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is inherently morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal in Woody Allen s Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff s Hunters in the Snow, and the Grandma and The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find, the traditional sides of good and bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen throughout these pieces is the role of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death situation or in general, and that the question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a simple one. As the idiom there is more than meets the eye suggests, there has yet to be a completely pure, good human, despite how they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other characters, The Misfit is the best character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the story requires complex analysis, as the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and the grandmother. The Misfit is first introduced in the first paragraph of O Connor s short story, as Grandma tells her family of the notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O Connor 1042). While a fair assumption, The Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral individual. He then is not mentioned until right before Pitty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Rise Of Democracy Throughout Europe Essay The Rise of Democracy in Europe The rise of democracy within Europe was vital to the importance of the individual, and was marked by a transition from the governing by one feudal lord, to the governing by an elected official. This transition brought change not only to humanistic thinking, but also enabled mankind to have basic human rights which improved life for the country s citizens. This shift of thinking to the rights of individuals was spurred by the Protestant Reformationand the creation of the social contractwhich enabled a perfect atmosphere for the rise of democracy within Europe. During the feudal system, military lords ruled the people with little regard for human rights. The people were used only as pawns for the wellbeing of the feudal system and were seen as such, but with the rise of an economy based on money instead of land, the feudal system began to rapidly decline. As the feudal system dwindled away, the individual rights of man increased with the rise of the market economy, which in turn propelled the spirit of democracy within the people (International Center for Peace and Development ). While money began to circulate within this new type of economy, the financial stability of the monarchs began to collapse, while the merchant class was becoming wealthy. This transition of wealth tore down the stronghold that had suppressed the population during the feudal system, and allowed the wealthy merchant power to become important political figures. ... During the Middle Ages, a system called the Feudal System was formed to maintain order. It might have made life tough for peasants, but it kept nobles, or upper class people, rich and in power. The Feudal System greatly affected daily life for everyone, but, in time, it collapsed. The constant chaos of the Middle Ages caused the Feudal System to be invented. During this time period, kingdoms in modern day western Europe were under constant threat from invading nations. Most kingdoms had been too large to have just a single figure of power, so Feudalism developed. Feudalism came mostly due to a single king s inability to protect his land by himself (King 26). Another reason was that before the fall of the Roman Empire, an established and powerful entity, the leaders of kingdoms had strong bonds with their people. When the Roman Empire fell, there was no single strong power other than the Pope, and the ties between the leaders and the people broke (Pei). Without these ties, people and their Lords weren t as friendly as before. With no strong power in place, defenses were needed. This is how the Feudal classes came to be, as knights swore to support their lord militarily and their lord swore to protect them (Pei). • 31. `` A Cyborg Manifesto `` By Manfred E. Clynes And Nathan... The cyborg figure is a common fixture in both science and science fiction. The term, coined by Manfred E. Clynes and Nathan S. Kline in 1960, refers to an organism with enhanced functionality due to the incorporation of a mechanical component (Clynes and Kline, 27). The animal machine hybrid was a figuration and embodiment of the modern era s lust for technology as a means of pushing the human towards what was often militaristic and capitalist ideals. However, in her groundbreaking essay A Cyborg Manifesto , Donna Harawayappropriates the patriarchal cyborg figure for feminist purposes, drawing on its composited ontology as a model for female liberation. Her essay posits a psychological escape from the dualisms that hamper the female sense of self, through its account of boundary breakdowns and its rejection of totalized identity. This psychological escape becomes active politically when applied to challenge the authority of the physical acts of oppression where these dualisms often manifest. However, the manifesto s inability to entirely account for cultural differentialism within feminismcauses it to fall somewhat under Haraway s goal of promoting the particular female self. First published in 1985 as part of The Socialist Review and later updated in 1991 as part of her anthology of essays Simians, Cyborgs, and Women (the latter of which will be the version analyzed), Donna Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto constructs a feminist call to action by situating a myth of the ... This treaty blamed the war solely on Germany, and it required them to pay an amount of $33 billion dollars in reparations, cede all of colonies, dismantle their air force, and greatly reduce their other military operations (German Delegation, 291). The German army was reduced to 100,000 men, and they were not allowed to have access to any tanks for their military. They were only given permission in the treaty to only be granted access to 6 capital naval ships to help defend their coastline, but they were not given any access to submarines which would help them attack, or become undetected. They were also to agree that the area that was to the west of the Rhineland and the area that was 50 kms east of the River Rhine was to be made into a demilitarized zone or (DMZ). A (DMZ) is an area of which no German soldiers or German aiding weapons are to be allowed. The Allies had agreed that they were to keep a standard army occupied on the west bank of the Rhine for 15 years to be able to hold up these treaty agreements. Also, during the drafting of this treaty, Germanywas not allowed to give any input even though that they were the most impacted, and are facing the majority of the consequences. • 35. Summary Of The Loss Of The CreatureBy Richard... How someone looks, acts, or is seen means a lot in Rodriguez s society. Complexion is an excerpt from the memoir, Hunger of Memories, which Richard Rodriguez has wrote. The essay, The Loss of the Creature was written by Percy Walker who uses many examples to show different outcomes of different situations. Percy s essay can be related to the chapter Complexion from Hunger of Memories by connecting the struggle of a person with examples of Rodriguez s struggle throughout his childhood. Percy discusses the struggle for the person in which Rodriguez explores throughout the chapter, Complexion in his memoir. The struggle for the person that Percy describes in The Loss of the Creature is displayed by Rodriguez s manliness which is being nullified from him. Rodriguez s father does not think that Rodriguez is manly. His father thought that he was not manly because of two things; he did not know what real work was and that his hands were soft. Rodriguez had felt like his manliness was being stripped of him because, At such times I suspected that education was making me effeminate. (Rodriguez 457) Rodriguez s mother was proud of all her children for getting an education even if he wasn t. His father and him may think getting an education is effeminate but it can be manly. • 36. Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Committee ( Tarc ) Essay The Turkish government arguing the validity of the history has been under discussion as far as the genocide. As they argue history is subjective therefore, it is not a fact that the genocide ever happened. They ve asserted that the genocide is some idea brought about by historians that have tried to sensationalize things so they can make a name for themselves. According to Theriault there is a Turkish and an Armenian view of the history and each are extreme with either of them being more valid than the other. Theriault goes on to talk about the Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Committee (TARC) and how it was an ill fated initiative based on the idea that resolution of the tension between Armeniansand Turks could be accomplished through a negotiated settlement of the various issues each side perceived as important, including the history of 1915. These tactics were used so that the Turkish government would seem like they were trying to aid in the Armenian cause, although, nothing had come of this show for the public audience. Scholars that deny the genocide claim Armenians are victims resulting in a negative relationship with the Turks today. This claim by denial scholars perpetuates the Anti Armenian sentiment shared by the leadership of Turkey and enables the domination relationship they have with Armenians. • 37. Summary Of Jean-Jacques Rousseau And Mary Wollstonecraft Eighteenth century Europe was an incredibly repressive environment for women. Patriarchal expectations governed not only women s physical and legal rights, but even inhibited their emotional states. Women were limited solely to the domestic sphere while their brothers, fathers, husbands, and sons pursued livelihoods outside the home. For a woman to be dissatisfied with the status quo and yearn for greater purpose than just raising children and obeying a husband was considered abnormal and unfeminine. Women had very few choices in life and very few opportunities to assert themselves, but they found that exploiting men through sex and romance was an effective way to gain some form of autonomy. Two influential political and philosophical authors of the time, Jean Jacques Rousseauand Mary Wollstonecraft, both found this kind of manipulation to be a prevalent issue. However, while Rousseau believes that this behavior proves women s cunning and inferior natures, Wollstonecraft is more forgiving. She argues that if the sexes were equal, women would not be forced to derive power by influencing men. In Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, published in 1755, Rousseau attempts to answer the question of what causes suffering in society. Throughout his treatise, when referring to the human race as a whole, he uses the word man. The masculine vernacular was an continues to be common shorthand for humankind, but in this particular case, it is significant. It indicates Rousseau s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Steel and Tariffs Essay Steel and Tariffs We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the US steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately though, that hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even higher prices to come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for their well being. With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic government policies and could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A malfunctioning third party device driver, for example, can easily destroy key data structures and take down the entire system. That this scenario is a serious threat follows from the observation that the majority of operating system crashes are caused by device drivers [7, 25]. Yet another problem is that the immense size of monolithic kernels makes them very complex and hard to fully understand. Without a global understanding of the kernel even the most experienced programmers can easily introduce faults by not being aware of some peculiar sideeffect of their actions. We have implemented drivers for IDE, floppy, and RAM disks, keyboards, displays, audio, printers, and various Ethernet cards. Above the driver layer are the server processes. On top of the servers come the ordinary user processes, including shells, compilers, utilities, and application programs. With a small number of minor exceptions, the servers and drivers are normal user processes. To avoid any ambiguity, we note again that each server and driver runs as a separate user process with its own address space completely disjoint from the address spaces of the kernel and other servers, drivers, and user processes. In our design, processes do not share any virtual address space and can only communicate with each other using the IPC mechanisms that are provided by the kernel. This point is crucial to the reliability as it prevents faults in one server or driver from spreading to a different one, in exactly the same way that a bug in a compilation going on in one process cannot affect what a browser in a different process is doing. In user mode, the operating system processes are restricted in what they can do. Therefore, to support the servers and drivers in performing their tasks, the kernel exports a number of kernel calls that authorized processes can make. Device drivers, for ... The administration of President Vladimir Putin has chosen to abridge civil liberties in Russia and demolish the growing power of nongovernmental democratic institutions. The government has embarked on a strategy crush any opposing viewpoints and reinforce its own dominance. In July 2012, Vladimir Putin went into action to suppress the basic human rights of Russians. The three fundamental freedoms of assembly, association and speech were treated to fierce legal restriction. Perfect numbers are more complex than just deciding whether a number is considered perfect or not. First, what you have to do to get a perfect number. Every scholar has invented their own formula to result in a perfect number. The most common formula is to take the factors of a number and add them together. If the sum of the factors, except the number itself, results in the original number then the number is perfect. Euclid invented a formula that is also used to solve for perfect numbers: 2p 1 (2p 1) Ex.1: 21 (22 1)= 6Ex.2: 22 (23 1)= 28 In this formula p stands for a prime number, therefore in the first example two is the prime number being used. Both novels divided into non chronological stories, both involve characters who feel stuck in their situations, and both realize the importance of returning for the people they left behind. At their most basic levels, The House on Mango Street and The Things They Carried are both broken down into stories, which, although some reference events and characters in other stories, do not follow a definite chronological order.
