Corporate strategy involves determining the businesses a company will engage in to achieve its objectives. It addresses what business areas a company should operate in and what strategies it should use to enter and exit businesses. There are four main corporate level strategies: stability, growth, retrenchment, and combination. Growth strategies include intensification through market penetration, market development, and product development, as well as diversification through vertical, horizontal, concentric, and conglomerate approaches. Companies pursue external growth through mergers and acquisitions, amalgamations, and joint ventures.
