Etsy has been pushing the idea of how we do monitoring.
Beyond just monitoring devices and services, we discuss reducing alert fatigue, the impact of alerts on operations engineers, and how we can learn about monitoring from other industries.
A brief overview on we launched Meddy out of a class room project. How we quickly built prototypes and frequently talked to customers and iterated over the product. Importance on lean and iterative development and figuring out how our people currently solving that problem.

Talk Big Data Conference Munich - Data Science needs real Data Scientists. Marcel Blattner, PhD
How to hire a real Data Scientist? Data Science and Big Data are hypes. It has become very sexy to be a Data Scientist. More and more self-appointed Data Scientist are found on the market. To be sure to get a real one you have to test him/her.

Over 80% of our brains are used interpreting visuals. It seems a waste not to take advantage this powerful channel into the minds of our students. What sorts of ways can a single image be used to tell stories and explore complex ideas in Math, Science, Language Arts or Languages classrooms? What could we do with a series of pictures? How can we do this beyond the time and space of the classroom walls and have our students generate a bank of powerful visuals to inspire future students to create even more powerful learning imagery?
In this hands on session participants will mash up their ideas with powerful images, painlessly share them with the group and spend the lion’s share of our time together thinking deeply and discussing our shared vision for what real learning looks like in our classrooms. We’ll touch on ideas of ethical and responsible use of technology, creative commons and some thoughts about visual design.
Bring your camera enabled mobile device. We’re gonna use it. And show you how to take better pictures in the process.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

One of my favorite quotes. This quote really empowered me to keep working toward my goals. \n
Beginning the explanation of who I am and who I want to be. \n
Giving some information on where I grew up.\n

I mention them because of their status. Although, I was one of hundreds that performed, and they were lip syncing the whole time.\n
This is right after High School it will be implied with the next slide.\n
I mention this school so the audience will realize the big change in the following slides.\n

\n
I had a lot more I wanted to say before and after this point but, I only have 20 slides (I’m making the reference page the 21st) From this point on I’ll be mainly talking about my accomplishments.\n
Simultaneously revealing my academic credentials and wrapping up the timeline. \n
I want to go into more detail hear but, as I said before, I only have 20 slides\n
Pointing out some of the Course Director awards I won. I feel like nobody outside FSU knows what “course Director” awards are., so I left that part out.\n
I’m trying to point to my audio engineering skills (I omitted the fact that I went to an audio engineering school after Pace and before Full Sail. Pointing this out will make the later slides come together better. \n
I’m pointing out my skills and accomplishments in the Pop (etc.) Music industry \n
I’m pointing out my skills and accomplishments in the Film Industry.\n

Pointing out some characteristics and qualities about myself.\n
I felt like this before reading (actually watching) this quote., but I felt linking this to a quote gives it a bigger impact. \n
