Core Doctrines
God:
Core doctrines are apart of the Christian faith and should be taught no matter what the denomination is. Doctrines are not negotiable throughout the
universal Christian churches. However, churches may have different dogmatic beliefs, because there are not set in stone and vary. Theology is defined
by Beth Felker Jones as being "the study of the things of God, a God who loves the world." Theology is a practice that affects Christians' lives in many
ways: the way that they think, live, and how they talk about God with others. The "law of prayer" suggests to Christians that they are living a whole
life of discipleship where they should continue to build intimate relationships with God. There are many core doctrines that we must use in ... Show

This is the doctrine that states that there is one God that prevails in eternity as three separate parts. The three specific parts are the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. These three parts of God do not have one that is more important than the other. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God with different roles.
Over time, there have been many heretical views placed on the trinity. Adoptionism means that the Son and was seen as ordinary and then promoted to
son hood. Modalism is the next heresy, which believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all three in one, but God wears different masks while
He work all over the Earth. Arianism was the heretical belief that claimed Jesus was created, but not divine. Nominalism states that only individual
things exist. Tri–theism is the final heresy that believes God is three separate beings. Humans have a difficult time trying to understand the trinity or
oneness of God. The trinity teaches the importance of Christian relationships. God wants a relationship with each and every person and also for us to
have relationships with others. Having relationships with God allows for Christians to see that God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. This
means that God will be there at all times during any situations, he will be in complete power, and he will know about everything that is going on in
your life.
The doctrine of Scripture is a core doctrine that is crucial to

Differences Between Feminist Theology And Christian Theology
If one were to ask ten modern day theologians to define the word "theology," it is likely that they would hear ten different answers. Even within the
various types of theology, for example, Christian theology, there are a wide spectrum of attitudes and beliefs. Even more so, if one were to compare
evangelical theology with feminist theology, the differences would add up quickly. Two modern day theologians, Stanley Grenz and Catherine Keller,
well known in their respective fields, have approached their theology from different backgrounds. The most obvious is the difference in gender.
However, their theological methodologies, the definition, and nature of their theological goals and their approach to being biblically faithful are vastly
different. By careful examination, these two theologians and their specific ideologies in relating to evangelical theology and feminist theology will
influence how a person approaches their own theology.
Considered a "prolific theologian," Stanley Grenz was a leader among evangelical theologians (Warner, 2005, p. 42). Author of a multitude of books on
diverse subject matters including eschatology, ethics, Trinity, and homosexuality, Grenz initially defended his Baptist customs (Warner, 2005).
However, considered as his greatest contribution, was his ability to bridge the evangelicals from their own world of thought to "engage the larger
scholarly world" (Warner, 2005, p. 43). He was the first to consider postmodern thought, recognizing

My Pastoral Care : My Theology Of Pastoral Care
My faith tradition informs my theology of pastoral care as that a pastor has an authority in the pastoral care relationship. The pastor's image in my
faith tradition is an advisor, director, and guide. In my faith tradition, the lay people like to have the pastoral care, when they make important
decisions. Since my culture is the hierarchal and patriarch system, the lay people believes that pastors are better to know about God's will. Therefore,
the lay people are too much depending on the pastor's advices, and taking pastor's perspective, rather than choosing what they want. There is no space
to listen their inner voice in the pastoral care in my faith tradition. My theology of pastoral care in my faith tradition was that what Jesus did is what
we should do. Because of my traditional ideal of pastoral care, I thought pastors have to know everything and be better than others until becoming like
Jesus. However, I realized that the theology can be dangerous to look down the lay people and non–Christians, and is not helpful for the pastors and
the lay people as well. I think it is important to remember in my tradition that the head of the church is the only one, Jesus, and we are all the body
of Christ. There is the better part in the body of Christ. We are all the same and we need each other. My theology of pastoral care what I have now is
God is the relational God, and the relationship is not only one way from the above to the bottom, but also from right to left and left to

The Great Commission To Worship
Introduction Evangelism could be described briefly as proclaiming God's heart to the people who lived without standards of truth. Evangelism
with the heart of God is being based upon worshipping God and glorifying God as well. Worshipping God is means to rejoice in God and to reveal
Jesus in one's life.1 Authors David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley in "The Great Commission to God" book have emphasized the importance of
Worship to the reader in order for Christian to become a great commission worshipper. Authors have asserted that the top points in the book are
worship and evangelism. These are a matter of cardinal importance to Believers who desire to live God's will and way. Because God created us for

Because human beings who were made for fellowship with God as well.6 I could get a chance to learn through chapter 8 which mentioned the
missional life, worshipping life, and evangelical life of relationship. Ultimately, these lives have to be one life for glorifying God such as Paul,
Isaiah, and Daniel. This book has 'Discussion Questions' at the end of each chapter for discussing with each other. This is a great benefit for the
learner. Through these questions, I had a meditation time for living the better life that God wants. I was not only able to fix my evil habit and
pattern, but I was able to widen the width of deep thought. In my opinion, it will be informative and very entertaining to share with each other in
class or small group meeting regarding 'Discussion Questions'. The Teaching of mission chapter in this book was a great impressive chapter for me.
The authors referred to John piper, who mentioned mission which is ultimate goal of the church.7 The ultimate goal of the church is to glorify God
and to worship God and then making disciples and sending disciples to the place where there is no worship. Actually I want to be a missionary to go
to unreached group for worshiping God because God loves them. I will be keeping mind to continue in this teaching. Conclusion I desire to be a great
commission worshipper, as the authors mentioned 'the hands and feet of Christ to the

The Disciples Of Christ Tradition
Having grown up United Methodist, it has been compelling to discover how much I have been influenced by Wesleyan theology, without even realizing
it. This embedded theology continues to be refined through an ever–deepening understanding of scripture, experience, traditions and with the use of
reason. I am most drawn to those theologians who are rooted in this Wesleyan tradition. My mother grew up Disciples of Christ, and her tradition
influenced my theology through its broad understanding of faith. This led me toward an openness about the various ways people experience and
understand the Divine. The Disciples of Christ tradition also influenced my understanding of baptism, while John Wesley's Treatise on Baptism helped
me affirm a Wesleyan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While being both three and one, the Triune God is both accessible to us through relationship and more expansive than we can fathom. Having
experienced both God's nearness and distance in my own life, I am comfortable with the mystery of God. My own relationship with the Divine is
sustained through prayer, worship, study, sacrament, vocation, relationships and acts of justice. Throughout my life, especially during more
challenging experiences, I felt God nearby, present, and engaged in my life, especially through communion. At other times, God feels more distant,
more mysterious, and more unavailable. This ebb and flow in my relationship with God allows me to be comfortable with God being three in one and
both immanent and transcendent. I also experience God in moments of tension, when caught between two seemingly distant paradigms. By
acknowledging the mystery of God, I am able to have a relationship with God, while God remains infinite and beyond full human comprehension.
I believe that God created the world and continues to remain active and responsive to the world as it is. God is, first and foremost, loving. As both
Father and Mother, God seeks to be in relationship with the world and calls the church toward a vision of creation that is beautiful, diverse, just, and
good. God remains with us, even when we turn away and sin. God's love is greater than we can ever imagine.

PACO 507 CP Adams TS Essay
Comparison Paper: Adams: Nouthetic Counseling

PACO 507
SUMMARY David Powlison's book, "The Biblical Counseling Movement: History and Context" (Powlison, 2010) highlights the historical context and
impact of Jay Adams's Positive System theory of Biblical Counseling. Adams makes three striking claims in his anti–psychiatry movement in support of
counseling being a pastoral call versus a psychological practice. First, he claims that modern psychological theories perpetuate bad theology and
misinterpret life's problems. Secondly, he claims that psychotherapeutic professions are a false pastorate embarking upon tasks that rightfully belong to
pastors. Thirdly, Adams claims that theBible teaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarding doctrine, Adams says that exposing clients to biblical teaching provides them with practical implications for living. The second step is
reproof, wherein the Holy Spirit brings conviction to the lives of individuals through the witness of the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit not only leads the
client to repentance, but also works through the counselor as a reflection of the love of God. The third step is correction and involves the
manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the lives of individuals to help them stand upright and bear fruit indicative of the repentance that has taken place in
their lives. The final step is instruction in righteousness, which pertains to the disciplined lifestyle wherein clients exercise a life of godliness. During
this step, clients are held accountable for their actions, decisions and thoughts. Adams resigns that the Bible is infallible, propositional, inerrant and
sufficient for counseling needs because it addresses every issue of life, either directly or principally (Liberty University, Baker, 2015).
Balance of Theology and Spirituality Adams's model of biblical counseling is steeped in reformed theology. The entire Nouthetic counseling system
rests upon the following implications about God described in John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion (Powlison, 2010, p. 98).
1. God is man's environment.
2. God controls all things by His inscrutable,

Summarize a Christian psychology response to this view. The Christian psychology view is represented by Robert Roberts and P. J. Watson. This view
points out that psychology–that is, critical reflection on "human psychic well–being and dysfunction" (150)–is ancient, not modern, in origin. Roberts
and Watson maintain that there is not one universal psychology, but rather many rival psychologies. In this context, Christian psychologists wish to
stake a claim for an approach to psychology that is explicitly based upon the Christian tradition. This recovery of a distinctly Christian psychology
takes place in two stages: retrieving the "rich resources that lie within our own tradition" (155) and engaging in empirical research from within this
framework. This latter step includes utilizing "well–established" social–scientific methods as well engaging in critical dialogue with psychologies that

The Doctrine Of The Trinity
THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY:
Instructor:Lisa Nichols Hickman – hickmanl@duq.edu
Director:Father Radu Bordeianu, Ph.D.
Course Description:
At the center of the Christian faith is a mystery. This mystery has everything to do with the identity of God, the nature of Christian community, the
salvation history and our understanding of Christology. This is the mystery of theTrinity – how is the Godhead fully three persons, and yet one nature?
Theophilus was the first to name the 'triad' nature of God in his letter To Autolycus in 170 A.D. Tertullian was the first to offer terminology to describe
this mystery in Against Praxeas claiming "the Trinity" involved three 'persons' of one substance. Thistheology emerged from the Biblical witness, even
though scripture offers no doctrine of the Trinity itself. Even more so, the development of the doctrine of the Trinity grew from the early church's
worship, witness and corporate experience. When faced with a mystery, heresies can't help but emerge. Docetism and Arianism, Adoptionism and
Monarchianism, Nestorianism and Monophysitism are just a few of the heresies that emerged in attempts to explain away the mystery. And yet,
theologians from the second century to the twenty–first century are faced with the challenge of witnessing to this mystery in both the theologia and the
oikonomia of the Trinity. The church experiences the economic Trinity as new believers are drawn into Trinitarian community through an ongoing

There are several assumptions with which I will begin prior to discussing my confession. The first assumption is that Jesus, who was crucified, is
Lord and that God has raised him from the dead. A second assumption is that apart from the first assumption, any and all other aspects of my
confession could be flawed or wrong. My beliefs about the nature of Scripture, God, Creation, Humanity and Sin, Jesus Christ, Salvation, Holy Spirit,
and the Church, though related to the centrality of the gospel, the gospel in itself is not contingent upon many these things. Therefore, though my
confession in relation to the aforementioned beliefs could change over time and with experience, the central belief of the gospel of Jesus Christ,

God
God created the heavens and the earth and is a personal being who cares about that which God created. (Stiver, 115; Gen. 1:31) God is both great
and good; God is both transcendent and perfectly good beyond humanity's capability of goodness. God is both completely other and yet, individually
present in a loving and relational manner. (Olson, 129) From the account given in Genesis, it can be seen that creation is a personal act of grace on the
part of God. God provides life to humanity as a free gift. Creation was a voluntary sharing of the joy that God already possesses. (Stiver, 115) God
desires close fellowship with humanity and continues to seek relationship with humanity. As humanity fails and turns to evil and suffering, God
continues in judgment and grace to seek relationship with humanity by creating covenant with humanity. (Stiver, 117) Thus, God is love.
God is good, and as shown through scripture, humanity is created in the image of God and thus, humanity is good. In saying this, I do not believe
humanity to be perfect. Humanity was not created perfect, but instead was created so that humanity required growth in order to approach spiritual
perfection or relationship with God. Though this growth can occur through tragedy, God does not necessarily intend evil to provide a means for this
growth because a person can grow to gain a relationship with God simply by obeying God's laws and choosing God over

The Church Structure
THE CHURCH STRUCTURE

INTRODUCTION
Churches throughout the world teach the Good News in diverse settings. Some churches use a the pulpit to deliver their message every Sunday, while
others take a more organic approach meeting outside the walls of the church in several places to deliver the message of Jesus Christ. In America, the
mission of the church is set against an environment of secularism. Secular values of diversity and extreme liberty have created a culture of 'anything
goes' that leads to ambivalence among unbelievers. The universal belief in today's culture is that if it works for someone, it is acceptable but if it does
not work for someone then it can be ignored. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the words of Billy Hornsby, "The attractional church never loses sight of the souls for whom Christ died, with a passion to reach outward to cultures
that the church has neglected. It engages these cultures through a relevant, relational approach to communicating the gospel." Hornsby points out that
the attractional church finds it impossible to be indifferent to the cultures around them, whether those cultures are subcultures within the dominant
contemporary culture or foreign cultures in other lands.
The attractional church perceives missions as the reason for its existence because it is through missions that members fulfill Jesus' command to disciple
others to the ends of the earth. At the same time, the attractional church uses a fairly traditional structure within which to minister and outreach to
others. In addition, the attractional church empowers others through training and leadership opportunities to minister to seekers in a variety of
contexts. As such, the hierarchical structure has a bottom–up approach that focuses on the people whom the church serves and works its way up to the
top without losing this emphasis. As a part of this focus, attractional churches create inspiring worship services that appeal to many people and intend
to encourage members and new believers to participate in building the kingdom of God. As such, the attractional church

Integration Model Psychology
The Levels of Explanation view is concern with understanding human using levels. It tries to explain things through a hierarchal concept and that
each level is separate from each other. They are not combined but are built upon each other. This view allows one to view science and psychology as
it is. It helps one to prioritize which of the level is higher than the other, and which should be regarded as most important. The explanation view is
comprehensive with its explanation from elemental aspect to an integrative aspect. It allows one to discuss one's worldview about human beings, but it
does not relate to the other levels. This prevents one to easily integrate Scripture to psychology or to physics. Since each level is built upon the previous

The first relationship one should establish is one's relationship with God, and through the relationship with God, one establishes one's relationship
with others and ourselves. Leviticus 26:12 write "I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people" (NIV). This ensure us that
God desire to establish relation with us and the phrase "My people" revealed His desire for us to have relationship with each other as well.
Through this holistic view of body, soul, and spirit, one is able to understand human beings. I agree with this view as this model attempts to
develop psychology as a form of Christianity. This view of tripartite nature of human being, body, soul, and spirit, is being supported by the
scripture 1 Thessalonians 5:23 "Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept
blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again" (NIV). This challenges other secular views on psychology as psychology can be viewed in a
Christian view. According to Johnson, "psychology is native to Christianity; it is already a fundamental dimension of our faith" (p. 174). I personally
like this model, but one aspect I disagree with this view is its focus on the past. It may lead to base ones view on only history and past research on
Christian psychology, which limits one from discovery new psychological aspects. I believe that it

belief and how this links to my chosen profession as registered Nurse. One key aspect of Theology which has impacted the way I will practise as a

christian anthropology we learn that humans are covenantal and therefore the human person is understood through relationships with god and
humanity. This explains the importance of being in relationships with other people and treating these people in the likeness of God with love,
compassion and justice. As nursing is a people profession dealing with people is a daily occurrence and having a understanding of this covenantal
aspect allows me to treat not only my patients but co–workers with love the way God did. Even when difficult situations arise and patients become

Community Census Survey the median household income within the community was $47,107. There are a number of persons in the congregation who
are college educated. Demographically speaking the church is prime to consider the next level of stewardship maturity. It is important to note that this
stewardship approach is not geared solely toward fundraising, but more significantly, it seeks to educate, inform, and stir a righteous passion for
generosity. In their work Contagious Generosity, Willard and Sheppard assert,
"It is not enough for the church to talk about generosity, nor is it enough for individual Christians simply to commit to being generous. What makes
Generosity a real and powerful witness to God's love is our action."
In complete agreement with Willard and Sheppard, the testament to the generosity of this organization will rest on its action. Generosity will be
determined by the willingness of the community to give from a posture of love.
With the firm belief that stewardship is indeed a ministry of love, this approach will treat it as such. The biblical text that will be used to guide the
stewardship approach over the next 8–12 months comes from 1 Corinthians 4:2 which states, 'Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found
trustworthy.' I believe this scripture captures the tone

My regional minister stopped the conversation and asked me, "What did you just say your metaphor for ministry was again?" I replied, with a

my metaphors and functions for ministry, for the first time, I claimed my metaphor to my ordination council not quite a month ago. Through the lens
of empowerment and hope, and within my current context of rural congregational ministry, this semester of considering issues for women in Christian

3.In conversation with Daniel Migliore give an account of what it means to confess that God is triune. Give care to an explication of "economic and
immanent trinity," and perichoresis.
In order to explain what it means to confess that God is triune, Migliore explains the origin of our confession as well as the implications of a God who
is three in one. In the following essay, I will give an account of Migliore's description of how and why we confess the trinity before describing the three
interpretive statements Migliore offers to us in an attempt to explain the triune God in depth.
Migliore defines the Christian confession of God as triune as a "summary description of the witness of Scripture to God's unfathomable love incarnate in
Jesus Christ and experienced and celebrated in the community of faith" (Migliore 67). He is quick to explain that "the doctrine of the Trinity is
not a revealed doctrine...[because it] did not descend miraculously from heaven, nor was it written by God on tablets of stone"'; rather it is "the
product of the meditation and reflection of the church on the gospel message over many centuries" (67). That said, Migliore believes that a
confession of the triune God has both a biblical and experiential basis. He states "if talk of the triune God is not to be wild speculation, it will always
find its basis and its limit both in the biblical narrative of God that comes to the world through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the

Celtic Religion Essay
In my paper I will argue that Celtic Spirituality can and should be used to reinvent the church today. The church is in decline and turmoil for many
reasons (lack of time or interest, aversion to authority, dislike of evangelical Christian "morals," avoidance of the term "religious") but Celtic
Spirituality, which has existed for centuries, still speaks. This form of spirituality is valid and should be valued in today's world because the tradition's
principles can support society's current theological challenges. Books written by preeminent Celtic spiritualists John O'Donohue and John Philip
Newell highlight these core values: friendship, love, beauty, silence and solitude, mystery, and interconnection between all of creation/the cosmos and
the divine. Currently, there is a spiritual revolution occurring. Though people are choosing to not be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philip Newell recognizes the need to cultivate the desire and yearning for peace within ourselves. He notes that Celtic Spirituality is "deeply aware of
the disharmonies within and between us that shake the foundations of life." The dance of the universe calls to us, to our souls, through love. This love,
the Heartbeat of Life, is seen through creation, nature, relationships. This spiritual theology must speak to those who say they are "spiritual but not

a fundamental and spiritual level whether you are a follower of a particular religion or spiritual practice. In "Celtic Prayers from Iona" Newell shows
how action can be taken in reflection and prayer through this spirituality. Daily prayers focus on various themes including: justice, healing, care for the

Psychology, Theology and Spirituality: Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian Counseling
Summary
McMinn (2011) uses this book to bring out the importance of the use of spirituality (as related to Christian faith) in psychological counseling. He
describes the Christian Counselors as people who are highly trained in counseling theory and techniques, in theology, and are personally disciplined to
mirror Christian attributes during and after counseling. (pg. 139)

It was not a formal counseling session. He prayed with me and made me meditate on Philippians 4:4–6 (NIV) "Do not be anxious about anything, but
in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." He showed me reasons why I need to pray in my situation. The Holy Spirit made me know I felt
disappointed in God (sin). I thought I could pray and He has to answer all prayers (pride). I meditated on Romans 12:3 (NIV) "...do not think of
yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of
you." I confessed my sin of overrating my self–opinion, received new grace through humility referred to in II Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) "If my people
who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways...," for the healing of my soul.
According to McMinn (2011), spirituality redirects us from illusion of competence, pride, and exaggerated self–opinion to help us admit our
helplessness and dependence on the unmerited grace of God. It happened to me.
Reflection One of the strengths of this book is McMinn's concentration on the practical aspect of the interdisciplinary integration: the amalgamation of

Stewardship In The Bible
There will be eternal reward and consequences beyond residency in heaven. The judgment time is called the Bema Seat of Christ or judgment seat of
Christ. That day of reckoning is described in the following three passages: 1 Corinthians 3:12–15, 2 Corinthians 5:10, and Romans 14:10–12. These
passages include a reckoning of more than just financial issues. The above truth is a sobering fact of Scripture. If Millennials were to internalize these
values, it would create a sense of careful calculations in all matters of life.
After determining that God owns all things and that Christians are accountable to God, it is important to clarify how the word steward is used in the
Bible. In biblical times a steward was a trusted person given responsibility for someone else's possessions which may include care for livestock,
immediate family members, or servants. , A steward's duty was to manage on behalf of the master with the purpose to increase the master's resources
or influence. Finally, it implied some form of judgment or reckoning to reward the steward if he was faithful in the management of the entrusted
resources. "Often, stewardship is thought of only in terms of finances, but the Bible teaches that stewardship is a far greater concept, involving how we
respond with all of our life." For the purposes of this dissertation topic, the Project Director acknowledges stewardship includes more than finances but
will focus predominantly on financial stewardship. If the project

Personal Theology Of Preaching And Ministry Essay
Personal Theology Of Preaching And Ministry

SEPL610 Practice of Preaching
Professor Suzanne Duchesne
As a future minister, I recognize the importance in understanding my theological perspective which has an effect on my understanding of the role as
a minster and particularly the role of preaching. One's personal theology affects the neurological wiring in one's brain which unconsciously
influences decisions and actions. There are specific theological views that I believe shape my understanding of a minister's role as well as preaching.
One particular theological view that shapes how I understand the role of a minister and shapes my homiletic process is also a doctrinal belief of my
denomination that I wholly subscribe to. This tenant is referred to in the reformed tradition as "priesthood of all believers." What that means is that I
believe Jesus is a gift from God and it is the responsibility of all those who claim to be Christians to minster to others. This effects my preaching as I
am consciously aware of my sermon's ability to help others view me as someone who is on this journey with them, who happens to have more
expertise in biblical studies guiding them, but who is not belittling them. Lucy Atkins Rose suggests keeping a sermon conversational, and this is a
way in which I find myself striving towards in my homiletical approach. I believe this method offers a more relational experience and, as she also
suggests, would inspire growth

people in need (Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb, 2016). Its founders, Reverend Grant Cole, the former pastor of Connection Point Church, and
Dr. Jack Kennedy, Director of Cobb & Douglas Public CountyHealth, started Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb after seeing the need in their
community and realizing that medical bills and poor health are a contributing factor to poverty in the U.S (Good Samaritan Health Center of
Cobb, 2016). Reverend Cole and Dr. Kennedy modeled Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb after the Good Samaritan Health Center in Atlanta
so the two organizations are very similar in mission, vision, and operations, but serve different populations based on their locations (Tapper, 2016).
The official mission of Good Samaritan Cobb, as stated on their website, is, "to spread the love of Christ by providing quality healthcare to those in
need." Its vision per the website is to be, "obedient to God 's commandments directing us to love and serve Him, to love and serve our neighbor, and
to spread the Gospel, the health center will be a Christian ministry that exists to provide quality primary care medical and dental services to the
working poor of our community. This will be done at an affordable cost, providing these families with a medical "home" upon which they can depend.

Essay On Play In Education
DE9016L Education and Theology in Dialogue
Assignment 1
2500 word essay exploring an issue of leadership practice in the light of the chosen theological areas.
Introduction
As educators and Christians we are called to both engage and educate our students and develop them into functional, contributing, happy members of
society. Play–based learning is one pedagogy which can be employed to facilitate this. Creation Theology discusses what we as Christians believe
about how we were and continue to be created. The holistic nature of play–based learning ensures that the education of the student as a whole is
addressed, developing both academic and relational skills, this assists us as teachers to educate students and also answers Gods call to ... Show more

33) by God. Without God there would be no life on Earth, or even Earth. Bartsch defines Creation as 'the result of the will of God, the ever–living
creator, and emphasis that we are completely dependent on God for our existence' (Bartsch, 2013, pg. 51).
Human creation was the crown of God's creative work (Ps 8:4–6). Humans contain the spirit of God (Bartsch, 2013) it was God's breath that gave life
to humans (Gen, 2:7). Humans were so special to God that when we were created, God used His own image in our creation (Gen. 1:26–27). My
understanding of 'image of God', from a biblical perspective, is that humans are created for fellowship with God and to live in conscious relationship
with him (Bartsch, 2013). The understanding and responsibility for humans to represent God and care for all of his creation (Gen 1:28) is recognised
in the 'image of God'. Each person is knitted together in their mother's womb (Jer. 1:5) fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14). Each unique
person, therefore, has individual and equal worth in the eyes of God (Bartsch,

Help By Law Morally Wrong
You are walking down the sidewalk, when all of the sudden you see someone run into the road and get hit by a car. Now you are faced with a
choice, go and help or walk on by and ignore the situation even though you could possibly save the person's life. Some people say that there is too
much risk in helping other people. Morally, the correct thing to do would be to be a "Good Samaritan" and help the person in need. Even if you do not
have moral standards, helping someone in need is just human decency. Things happen all the time where you are forced to make a choice. Whether it
be as simple as picking out an outfit, giving a homeless man money, or as hard as deciding to help someone in distress. The "American 'no duty to

"The Good Samaritan law requires people assist anyone in distress" (Allred 334). If the United States passed a law that made it where people had to
help someone in distress, I think that the number of fatalities would go down. Bystanders would be required to help by law. It would speed up
reaction time because people would be forced to at least call an ambulance. Just with one phone call you could possibly keep a person alive to see
their family, friends, and their world again. On the other hand, a lot of people think that helping someone in need or having a law that forces them
to help someone in need is a bad idea. "[The Good Samaritan in the Biblical parable] didn't have to worry about being sued" (Sjoerdsma 336). People in
America are always looking for a way to sue people. If you had to save someone, by choice or by law, and you did not succeed in saving them, you
could be liable for their death. And because of this you could be sued by their family. Many times the risks outweigh the chances of doing good. If
you go to try and help someone and figure out it was a ploy to kidnap or to rob you, it would do you harm by just trying to be a good person. If you
are on a dock and you see someone drowning, and you jump in after them they could possible pull you down with them. Now, the single person rescue

My Worldview : My Worldview
My worldview begins from with a biblical view. What does it mean to be human? Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in his own image, in the
image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (KJV). Because we were made in the image of God, it is in his Word that we will
find the answer to what it means to be human. Jesus Christ is the source of our true identity and nature. Romans 8:29 speaks of "being conformed to
the image of his Son." Our purpose originally was to love and fellowship with God. Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, the sin factor entered
the equation and made humanity prone to sin. When Christ came to earth and died for our sins, he created the opportunity to be redeemed from
those sins. It is only through his grace that we are able to be reconciled with him. If we drift in life, our human sin nature causes us to drift away
from God. Therefore, we must purpose in our hearts and in our actions to live a life free of sin and in relationship with the Almighty. When a person
lives a repentant life and in daily relationship with the Almighty, it brings an individual back to his or her original purpose, to love and fellowship
with God. This, then, opens the door to the promises and the miraculous of the Word of God. For instance, Matthew 11:28 promises that if you simply
come to Christ, he will give you rest. Philippians 4:19 promises that God will meet all of your needs. 1 Peter 2:24 mentions a supernatural healing that
can take place because

The Universe Next Door By James W. Sire: Chapter Analysis
In the Bible book of Genesis chapters one through eleven is the story of the creation of the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and
civilization. This is a story created by God, written by Moses and lived out by everyone, believers and nonbelievers. The first eleven chapters of
Genesis do not set out to prove the existence of God, as some are trying to do today. These chapters simply put Him at the center of everything. The
beginning of Genesis contains the account of creation, the fall of mankind into sin, procreation leading to civilization, the flood to bring about the
re–creation, and finally the culminating account of man marveling in his own effort – the Tower of Babel. All of which creates the foundation of
theology and the Christian's worldview of how God intended things to function in our world. Genesis also forms a foundation for other religious and
secular morals which aid in forming a worldview. By placing God at the center of everything, He creates the moral foundational worldview for
cultures around the globe. In his book, The Universe Next Door, James W. Sire describes worldview as essentially this: "A worldview is a

Genesis places God in the center of the human identity. "So God created man, male and female, in His own image and it was very good (Gen 1:27;

One Branch Of Faith Is Assenting
One branch of faith is assenting. Comprised of "knowledge, trust, and acceptance," it is the standard faith that most Christians think about. Thomas
Aquinas, the Doctor of the Church, was and is a brilliant theologian. His work, the Summa Theologica, is unmatched in depth and wisdom. Through
it, Aquinas wrote a masterful detailed overview of all theology. In the Summa Theologica, Thomas Aquinas defines this faith as "an infused virtue by
reason of which we accept on God's authority what he has revealed to us" (Nature and Grace, Aquinas). In other words, faith is within us and by it we
accept what God has revealed to us.
However, there is another aspect of faith. As Rich Lusk says in his book, Paedofaith: A Primer on the Mystery of Infant Salvation and a Handbook for
Covenant Parents:
Faith therefore here means a confident personal relatedness of the heart of Jesus which can exist without a detailed and articulated understanding of
what is and must be unfolded in the proclamation of the gospel...This state of affairs leads to an intensification of the concept of faith in the case of
children on account of the fact that it here means a relatedness to Christ, a trust in the person of Christ behind which the individual and utterable
elements of the deposit of faith recede. Even for adults, there obtains in principle no other way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven than for children and
infants: faith in Jesus. (qut Gottfried Hoffmann by Lusk ii–iii)

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan
There was an article written by John Darley and Daniel Batson, who was inspired from the parable of the Good Samaritan and decided to organize a
research to test the limits of people's good will towards something. Later they also published their research results in a paper in the year of 1973, titled
"From Jerusalem to Jericho." The history of the parable of the Good Samaritan was quite interesting. The research was conducted based on 3 different
hypotheses which they thought might influence people's helping behavior. One of the hypotheses was that, people that were thinking in terms of
religious would have any effect on helping others. Second one was that people that are in a rush will be less likely to offer any help to others
compared to the ones that are not in a rush. And the third one is that, people who are religious, more in a Samaritan fashion, would be more like offer
aid than those of a priest or more of a Levite fashion.
Instead of just analyzing scripture, the researchers put the participants randomly into various conditions, such as causing some of them to rush
somewhere and others to take their time to go to that same place; making people think from a religious point of view and for others it was not quite
necessary. For the study, both researchers chose participants from the Princeton Theological Seminary. There was also a 6
–point scale set to measure
the "helping behavior."
The study began by splitting the participants randomly into two groups, where one of

Theological Issues On The Body Of A Person Is Broken...
Theological Issues
As women appropriate memories of CSA through the lens of the adult mind, the naturally ensuing questions of worth, identity and forgiveness will
potentially challenge a system of belief in God. In attempting to bring this kaleidoscope of memories and life experiences into focus and for the victim
to become a survivor, mentors, a community structure and a strong sense of conviction will aid in the development of resiliency. Within the spiritual
model beliefs, values, social support, a sense of efficacy and hope are important; however, beliefs alone are inadequate for healing. Practical application
of attitudes and beliefs is critical in providing a sense of relief and hope (Yarhouse et al., 2005, p. 43).
Worth
When the individual and contextual value of a person is broken through traumatic experience like CSA, the question of worth within the self, family
and in the larger body of Christ emerges. Victims who find it difficult to viewGod as love and sustainer and thus accurately ascribe self–worth may find
pastoral assistance helpful.
Sin's distortion of value causes a restructuring of reality into a more tolerable version and "these postures of refusal and resistance are an idolatrous
turn" (Ramsay, 1998, p. 159) away from God. Selfishness, negativity, promiscuity, detachment, etc., is the fruit of such a choice.
Ramsay (1998) further states, evil is "a corruption of the ideal of faithfulness to God" and it is the victim's violated ethical

The Importance Of Youth Ministry
The education of youth is important because all our thinking and action should begin with God. Because young people are highly relational, Christian
doctrine is critical for effective youth ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth ministry must
copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life,
teachings and work for us.
The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the
critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational
ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully navigate the seas over which they will travel.
Chapter Seven: Transforming the Mind, 2 (feelings)
Youth ministry's focus is to intentionally help each young person develop a foundation of spiritual maturity with Jesus Christ. The process of a
teenager becoming a responsible Christian adult is when they lose interest in childish behaviors and focus on the Lord's will allowing the Spirit to lead
them into a servant's role.
Chapter nine: Transforming the Body
Spiritual transformation requires the transformation of the body because the flesh is weak, I must not let my body parts control my actions. Christian

B. Motivation Crabb (1977) suggest that motivation is a natural and universal drive to meet ones needs and is a compelling component of personality.
Many factors contribute to one's behavior, such as one's past, ethnicity, culture, religious upbringing, abuse history, family of origin, education, and
illness (physical or mental) (Wilson, 2001). "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy–laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest [I will
erase and relieve and refresh your souls.]" (Matthew 11:28, Amplified). Anderson (2000) asserts, based on Ephesians 2:1, that man is born into the
world alive physically but spiritually dead. God must be in the core of one's personality to live and experience true fullness of life and health.
C. Human Development Human development is a life long process, which is ever changing in body, mind, and spirit (Adams, 1986).
Crabb (1977) believes a Christian counselor helps one to grow into Christ like maturity, this is done though "1) immediate obedience in specific
situations and
2) long–rang character growth" (p. 25).
D. Individual Differences
Distinctiveness in individual personalities originates from various areas.

The Belief That Adam And Eve
The belief that Adam and Eve along with other Biblical figures did not exist historically is one that is growing in prominence as people begin to
question the extent to which the creation account in the Bible ought to be taken as a historical account considering other ancient Mesopotamian
creation accounts. Many find the possibility that Adam did not exist to be a challenging one but it is important to acknowledge that Christianity is not
dependent on the existence of Adam (Lamoureux, 89) but on faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Just as the portrayal of the three–tiered universe seen
in Genesis is often rejected today on understanding that the Holy Spirit spoke to the author of Genesis in a way that both he and the audience of the
day would understand, it is possible that the account of Adam and creation of the first couple is to be valued for it's etiological significance as
opposed to it's historical accuracy (Lamoureux, 84). The de novo understanding of creation, which asserts that the earth was created quickly, was the
scientific view that was popular in the time of the ancient Hebrews, just as evolution has become the popular belief today. That being said, if one
chose to believe that Adam and Eve were not historical figures, this would present a problem with regards to the concept of original sin. Though the
question of creationism versus evolutionism solicits a choice, the dichotomy of evolution versus creation, which is often portrayed, is one that is false.

McMinn Book Review
Summary
Christian counselors have a responsibility to their clients to integrate psychology and theology in their therapeutic approaches. Incorporating multiple
components however is not as straight forward as one might think. In Psychology Theology, and Spirituality (McMinn, 2011) McMinn discusses the
benefits of an integrated counseling approach that strives to promote "both spiritual and emotional growth" (McMinn, 2011, p. 5) by including a third
element; spirituality, or more specifically, spiritual formation. Finding the proper blend of elements can be challenging even for a seasoned therapist.
McMinn outlines common challenges in each chapter, and offers thoughts on how to blend psychology, theology, and spirituality in the specific setting
of the counseling relationship; a relationship that ideally demonstrates how relationship with God our redeemer can bring transformational change in the
counselee. As he does in the second section of his book, McMinn begins by outlining how even the counseling relationship itself will present its own
set of challenges.
Two challenges faced by counselors include training in spiritual formation, something that comes solely through deepening their own relationship with
God, and establishing boundaries between their personal and professional life while still drawing upon personal experience in the counseling sessions.

Agency Paper: The Pastoral Institute
Introduction
Pastoral counseling is a significant and important part of the counseling field, which is what sparked my interest when choosing an agency. It was
important to me to find out how they used their spiritual basis in counseling to help their clients and the community, and whether or not they are able to
help and reach culturally diverse groups effectively. Also, due to the strict nature ofreligion, I also wanted to find out whether their counseling
practices placed any restrictions on their clients and those they choose to affiliate themselves with. Initially, I spoke with an intake coordinator at the
facility who gave me a brief overview of the agency's mission, goals, and history, as well as the services they provide both directly and indirectly.
However, due to her limited knowledge of these subjects, she suggested that I speak to the clinical director, Ms. Donna Plummer, who she felt could
provide me with more detailed information. Ms. Donna Plummer is Licensed Professional Counselor and Substance Abuse Professional in both Georgia

Meaning, the more intellectual one is, the more like God they are. Since there is no biblical evidence that the image varies within individuals, this view
cannot be logically supported.
The Relational View
The next view is the relational view. This view asserts that the image of God is the capacity to hold a relationship, particularly with God. This way of
thinking is formed out of the fact that the Godhead has relationship within itself. This is found in Genesis 1:26, where God says, "Let us make man in
our image." This agrees with Karl Barth's belief that within the Godhead the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit experience relationship. Furthermore, man
experiences relationship with one another and with God. This very aspect is interpreted as being the image of God.
This view accurately displays the biblical truth that humanity is the only created being out of all of creation that has the ability to commune with
God. However, issues arise explaining the relational view when one does not believe in God. Can one say they are still image bearers? Emil Brunner
answers this by saying that one is always in some sort of relationship with God, regardless of belief.
The Functional View
The last of the main views held states that the image of God is actually something the human does; this is called the functional view. This view
naturally disagrees with the preceding theories that support the

Doctrine Of The Afterlife : The Old Testament
Doctrine of the Afterlife in the Old Testament
In the ancient Hebrew writings, the concept of heaven and hell is limited to an underworld development. After burial, it was believed that the souls
of the dead would descent into the lower parts of the earth. This underworld or Sheol was a place where people would "dwell as weak, dim shades with
no consolation from God." The book of Psalms considers Sheol as the Pit, where there is no help and the soul is remembered no more (Ps. 88:3–5).
The Old Testament provides meaningful insight into the doctrine of the afterlife by declaring that all people regardless of being righteous or
unrighteous goes to Sheol and remembered no more. The most striking account was of King Saul visit to the medium ... Show more content on

Lazarus was in paradise, while the rich man was in hades.
On numerous occasions, the New Testament shared the concept of paradise alluding to a gathering place for the saints of God. When Jesus was on the
cross with the criminal, He turned to him and replied, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise" (Lk, 23:43). From this point, Jesus
provided an afterlife concept giving the criminal hope and satisfaction that there was more coming after death.
Christianity believes in the rewards of heaven for all who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and son of the Most High God. Jesus shares with His
disciples that He was going away to prepare a place for them, but would return one day to take them back (Jn 14:2–3). He makes a distinct separation
that those who believe it Him would have a dwelling place in heaven. Contrarily, those who denounce Him would be judged and punished to hell.
A major theological problem exist as it related to Christ descending into hell to take the keys of death. Although the Apostle's Creed points out that
Jesus descended down into hel, His descent was not about suffering, but about a triumph victory over Satan. In order to ascertain the truth behind the
afterlife, the validity of hell has to be established.
The Authenticity of Hell
The concept of hell can be viewed as three distinct underworld concepts in the Old and New

The God, Son, And Holy Spirit, By Dr. Bruce Ware
"Would God have chosen to reveal himself to us as the one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, unless he knew that this would be important to
our understanding of him and of our faith? Must it not be the case that God cares greatly that we "get it," that we see him for who he is? And must it
not matter to our own lives, whether or not we understand him as the triune God that he is?" (13) This is the very heart of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit: Relationships, Roles, and Relevance, by Dr. Bruce Ware, Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Christian Theology, at the Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. The book was initially written for the purpose of teaching at a pastor's conference, but with the help of his
diligent secretary was composed into a book. Through the perseverance of his secretary and Dr. Ware's gifted theological teaching, we now have what
one critic considers "a thorough theological treatise that any biblically literate layman can understand." (Paige Patterson) This theological "treatise" is
divided into six main chapters, that each focus on the Trinitarian doctrine. Understanding the doctrine of the Trinity is essential to the Christian faith,
which is the central goal of this book. The main focus of this study is to examine the ways in which the three Persons of the Trinity relate to one
another, how they relate to us, and what difference this makes to our lives. Dr. Ware accomplishes this through discussing the wonder of each

Essay on Women and the Trinity
Women and the Trinity
For most of us, faith development is a process. We grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God. As a Christian woman I know that my
consciousness about the feminist agenda has evolved in stages also. First, I became aware of the generic language. Words like "mankind",
"brotherhood", and the overused pronoun "he" was supposed to describe all of humanity. IT was clear that they contained a masculine bias. Little girls
grew up hearing those words literally and scaling down their self–image. I decided that even if I was not personally offended by these terms, inclusive
language was a matter of justice. Language both reflects the way we think and informs what we think. That was stage one in my feminist journey....

It can be also argues that the doctrine of the Trinity violates the unity of God, calling on Christians to worship three gods instead of one. The first
source to which Christian theology looks for it's teaching is the New Testament. It is the New Testament, which unfolds the divine plan introduced in
the Old, and it is by the New Testament revelation that the Old Testament revelation is interpreted. For this reason all Christians theologians have
made the New Testament their primary source for data in constructing views of God and His relation to the world. We must place all theology in
context. As the Old Testament affirms, God is incomparable. Isaiah writes that we dare not make our God out of gold, or carry the divine around in a
neat package to sit here or stand there. God reminds Israel, and all peoples, that "I am God and there is no other, I am God and there is none like me."
The doctrine of the Trinity lies in the New Testament rather in the form of allusion than in express teaching. The early Christians agree that it was
essential to explain the relationship between Jesus and God. Yet their assertions about Christ raised questions about the unity of God. Trinitarian
theology provided an important solution; it kept Christians from backsliding into superstitious polytheism, but it also prevented Jewish monotheism
from undermining the significance of Christ

Verbatim Reflection
When I brought this verbatim to my supervisor and peers, I received affirmation and criticism that I carried with me the rest of the summer. They
named one of my main strengths that they saw show up in this verbatim–my ability to connect with people on a human level, to make people feel
comfortable and at ease in my presence. They saw this in how the patient felt comfortable sharing her struggles concerning her hospital trip, but also
about her daughter and her churches. To me, I did not see this as anything special; I thought it was normal and natural to focus not only on what was

Question 5: Impressions of Clinical Pastoral Education
The most significant learning experience I had from CPE was a shift from doing things perfectly, to being a human to another human. When I started
CPE, I was fearful I did not know what to "do." The scant few days of training and orientation seemed wholly inadequate for the task ahead–I was
supposed to provide pastoral care? I was supposed to be a chaplain? Suddenly the vocation I had dreamed of doing for so long was before me, and I
was terrified of messing it up. The clinical method of learning–action, reflection, action–seemed outrageous. I am a perfectionist, and I often want to
know the exact steps in the procedure; I want to know what to do to achieve optimal results. I was immobilized by fear of failure. Our supervisor
jokingly cajoled us with the phrase, "Get lost!" What started as his best advice to navigating the confusing world of the hospital became advice in a
much broader sense. He emphasized that CPE was about getting lost and finding your way through, it was about letting go of a theology of perfection to

The Gift Of A Gift
This story is about a man giving a gift that is intended to show gratitude to a stranger's good deed that moved him years ago. An old woman with her
two grandchildren went to the supermarket for some groceries. The little boy and girl accompanied their grandmother, helping her out with some
groceries. While the little girl was picking a few things at the market, her grandmother told her that the items she had chosen were not necessarily,
although, the grandmother told her granddaughter to choose something special for her grandfather since it was his birthday, while he was home
waiting for them to come back with the groceries. The little girl picked up a cake from the pastry section and ran to the counter where her grandmother
and brother were waiting, ready to check out. When the cashier added the cake to the other items it made the grocery purchase higher than the money
they had in hand, so the grandmother pleaded with the cashier to void the cake out of her transaction. The granddaughter pleaded with the grandmother
that she wanted the cake and that she would not have asked for anything else. The grandmother had no choice by not buying the cake. As soon as they
left the market a gentleman at the market decided to purchase the cake that the young girl left at the market. The grandmother and her grandchildren on
their way home the gentle man approached the young girl and the grandmother with the cake that the young girl chose for her grandfather. The

Models of God, Humanity, and Nature My Experiences, Thoughts, and Critical Analyses
I ask a lot of questions; I'm a curious person. I once asked my mom why people die, why there are bad things in the world if God is so good and
all–powerful. Her response was that we just couldn't really understand why God does anything because we can't comprehend God's "master plan." I'm
sure that she was right, but that response is not very satisfying to a curious little boy. I saw an inconsistency in my understanding of reality, and I wanted
to get things straight.
I guess this little anecdote begins to illustrate a couple of my basic life principles. A concise explanation of how I look at the world is just this: We
humans, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once one has that understanding (or "model"), one then does one's best to live in a way consistent with that model and perhaps in the process,
persuade others of your world view.
Before going back to my own story though, I just wanted to clarify the difference between inconsistency and simplification. I feel that it is possible to
simplify a complex idea without it being necessarily inconsistent. I could simplify the weather in two ways. I could say that direct sunlight makes it
warmer outside. I could also say that sunny days are warmer than cloudy days. Both models of the weather are simplifications of a very complex
system.
However, my first one is consistent with my experience since sunlight usually makes me feel warmer than when there is no sunlight. Saying that sunny
days are warmer than cloudy days is not always true though. Therefore simplification doesn't necessitate inconsistency.
Now since I've set up my view of models and life, I can tell my story, using these ideas as a framework for understanding my life. I think that in
telling my story, I can communicate my ideas without being technical, philosophical, or lecturing. Maybe it will be effective, maybe not. I'll find
personal enjoyment just in telling my story though, and maybe some ideas will be persuasive in an experiential context. Every now and then, I'll try to
draw my conclusions in a way that is concise

Core Christian Doctrines and Theology

  • 1. Core Doctrines God: Core doctrines are apart of the Christian faith and should be taught no matter what the denomination is. Doctrines are not negotiable throughout the universal Christian churches. However, churches may have different dogmatic beliefs, because there are not set in stone and vary. Theology is defined by Beth Felker Jones as being "the study of the things of God, a God who loves the world." Theology is a practice that affects Christians' lives in many ways: the way that they think, live, and how they talk about God with others. The "law of prayer" suggests to Christians that they are living a whole life of discipleship where they should continue to build intimate relationships with God. There are many core doctrines that we must use in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the doctrine that states that there is one God that prevails in eternity as three separate parts. The three specific parts are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three parts of God do not have one that is more important than the other. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God with different roles. Over time, there have been many heretical views placed on the trinity. Adoptionism means that the Son and was seen as ordinary and then promoted to son hood. Modalism is the next heresy, which believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all three in one, but God wears different masks while He work all over the Earth. Arianism was the heretical belief that claimed Jesus was created, but not divine. Nominalism states that only individual things exist. Tri–theism is the final heresy that believes God is three separate beings. Humans have a difficult time trying to understand the trinity or oneness of God. The trinity teaches the importance of Christian relationships. God wants a relationship with each and every person and also for us to have relationships with others. Having relationships with God allows for Christians to see that God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. This means that God will be there at all times during any situations, he will be in complete power, and he will know about everything that is going on in your life. The doctrine of Scripture is a core doctrine that is crucial to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Differences Between Feminist Theology And Christian Theology If one were to ask ten modern day theologians to define the word "theology," it is likely that they would hear ten different answers. Even within the various types of theology, for example, Christian theology, there are a wide spectrum of attitudes and beliefs. Even more so, if one were to compare evangelical theology with feminist theology, the differences would add up quickly. Two modern day theologians, Stanley Grenz and Catherine Keller, well known in their respective fields, have approached their theology from different backgrounds. The most obvious is the difference in gender. However, their theological methodologies, the definition, and nature of their theological goals and their approach to being biblically faithful are vastly different. By careful examination, these two theologians and their specific ideologies in relating to evangelical theology and feminist theology will influence how a person approaches their own theology. Considered a "prolific theologian," Stanley Grenz was a leader among evangelical theologians (Warner, 2005, p. 42). Author of a multitude of books on diverse subject matters including eschatology, ethics, Trinity, and homosexuality, Grenz initially defended his Baptist customs (Warner, 2005). However, considered as his greatest contribution, was his ability to bridge the evangelicals from their own world of thought to "engage the larger scholarly world" (Warner, 2005, p. 43). He was the first to consider postmodern thought, recognizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Pastoral Care : My Theology Of Pastoral Care My faith tradition informs my theology of pastoral care as that a pastor has an authority in the pastoral care relationship. The pastor's image in my faith tradition is an advisor, director, and guide. In my faith tradition, the lay people like to have the pastoral care, when they make important decisions. Since my culture is the hierarchal and patriarch system, the lay people believes that pastors are better to know about God's will. Therefore, the lay people are too much depending on the pastor's advices, and taking pastor's perspective, rather than choosing what they want. There is no space to listen their inner voice in the pastoral care in my faith tradition. My theology of pastoral care in my faith tradition was that what Jesus did is what we should do. Because of my traditional ideal of pastoral care, I thought pastors have to know everything and be better than others until becoming like Jesus. However, I realized that the theology can be dangerous to look down the lay people and non–Christians, and is not helpful for the pastors and the lay people as well. I think it is important to remember in my tradition that the head of the church is the only one, Jesus, and we are all the body of Christ. There is the better part in the body of Christ. We are all the same and we need each other. My theology of pastoral care what I have now is God is the relational God, and the relationship is not only one way from the above to the bottom, but also from right to left and left to ... • 4. The Great Commission To Worship Introduction Evangelism could be described briefly as proclaiming God's heart to the people who lived without standards of truth. Evangelism with the heart of God is being based upon worshipping God and glorifying God as well. Worshipping God is means to rejoice in God and to reveal Jesus in one's life.1 Authors David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley in "The Great Commission to God" book have emphasized the importance of Worship to the reader in order for Christian to become a great commission worshipper. Authors have asserted that the top points in the book are worship and evangelism. These are a matter of cardinal importance to Believers who desire to live God's will and way. Because God created us for glorifying him and worshipping him,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because human beings who were made for fellowship with God as well.6 I could get a chance to learn through chapter 8 which mentioned the missional life, worshipping life, and evangelical life of relationship. Ultimately, these lives have to be one life for glorifying God such as Paul, Isaiah, and Daniel. This book has 'Discussion Questions' at the end of each chapter for discussing with each other. This is a great benefit for the learner. Through these questions, I had a meditation time for living the better life that God wants. I was not only able to fix my evil habit and pattern, but I was able to widen the width of deep thought. In my opinion, it will be informative and very entertaining to share with each other in class or small group meeting regarding 'Discussion Questions'. The Teaching of mission chapter in this book was a great impressive chapter for me. The authors referred to John piper, who mentioned mission which is ultimate goal of the church.7 The ultimate goal of the church is to glorify God and to worship God and then making disciples and sending disciples to the place where there is no worship. Actually I want to be a missionary to go to unreached group for worshiping God because God loves them. I will be keeping mind to continue in this teaching. Conclusion I desire to be a great commission worshipper, as the authors mentioned 'the hands and feet of Christ to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Disciples Of Christ Tradition Having grown up United Methodist, it has been compelling to discover how much I have been influenced by Wesleyan theology, without even realizing it. This embedded theology continues to be refined through an ever–deepening understanding of scripture, experience, traditions and with the use of reason. I am most drawn to those theologians who are rooted in this Wesleyan tradition. My mother grew up Disciples of Christ, and her tradition influenced my theology through its broad understanding of faith. This led me toward an openness about the various ways people experience and understand the Divine. The Disciples of Christ tradition also influenced my understanding of baptism, while John Wesley's Treatise on Baptism helped me affirm a Wesleyan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While being both three and one, the Triune God is both accessible to us through relationship and more expansive than we can fathom. Having experienced both God's nearness and distance in my own life, I am comfortable with the mystery of God. My own relationship with the Divine is sustained through prayer, worship, study, sacrament, vocation, relationships and acts of justice. Throughout my life, especially during more challenging experiences, I felt God nearby, present, and engaged in my life, especially through communion. At other times, God feels more distant, more mysterious, and more unavailable. This ebb and flow in my relationship with God allows me to be comfortable with God being three in one and both immanent and transcendent. I also experience God in moments of tension, when caught between two seemingly distant paradigms. By acknowledging the mystery of God, I am able to have a relationship with God, while God remains infinite and beyond full human comprehension. I believe that God created the world and continues to remain active and responsive to the world as it is. God is, first and foremost, loving. As both Father and Mother, God seeks to be in relationship with the world and calls the church toward a vision of creation that is beautiful, diverse, just, and good. God remains with us, even when we turn away and sin. God's love is greater than we can ever imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Smith Liberty University PACO 507 SUMMARY David Powlison's book, "The Biblical Counseling Movement: History and Context" (Powlison, 2010) highlights the historical context and impact of Jay Adams's Positive System theory of Biblical Counseling. Adams makes three striking claims in his anti–psychiatry movement in support of counseling being a pastoral call versus a psychological practice. First, he claims that modern psychological theories perpetuate bad theology and misinterpret life's problems. Secondly, he claims that psychotherapeutic professions are a false pastorate embarking upon tasks that rightfully belong to pastors. Thirdly, Adams claims that theBible teaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regarding doctrine, Adams says that exposing clients to biblical teaching provides them with practical implications for living. The second step is reproof, wherein the Holy Spirit brings conviction to the lives of individuals through the witness of the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit not only leads the client to repentance, but also works through the counselor as a reflection of the love of God. The third step is correction and involves the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the lives of individuals to help them stand upright and bear fruit indicative of the repentance that has taken place in their lives. The final step is instruction in righteousness, which pertains to the disciplined lifestyle wherein clients exercise a life of godliness. During this step, clients are held accountable for their actions, decisions and thoughts. Adams resigns that the Bible is infallible, propositional, inerrant and sufficient for counseling needs because it addresses every issue of life, either directly or principally (Liberty University, Baker, 2015). Balance of Theology and Spirituality Adams's model of biblical counseling is steeped in reformed theology. The entire Nouthetic counseling system rests upon the following implications about God described in John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion (Powlison, 2010, p. 98). 1. God is man's environment. 2. God controls all things by His inscrutable, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Pokinghorne said "I can perceive another person as an aggregation of atoms, an open biochemical system in interaction with the environment, a specimen of homo sapiens, an object of beauty, someone who needs deserve my respect and compassion, a brother for whom Christ died. Myers believes Christians must appreciate the essential role of science in nuturing curiosity and humility. This will put a wrongheaded notion about existence to an empirical test. The Christian psychology view is represented by Robert Roberts and P. J. Watson. This view points out that psychology–that is, critical reflection on "human psychic well–being and dysfunction" (150)–is ancient, not modern, in origin. Roberts and Watson maintain that there is not one universal psychology, but rather many rival psychologies. In this context, Christian psychologists wish to stake a claim for an approach to psychology that is explicitly based upon the Christian tradition. This recovery of a distinctly Christian psychology takes place in two stages: retrieving the "rich resources that lie within our own tradition" (155) and engaging in empirical research from within this framework. This latter step includes utilizing "well–established" social–scientific methods as well engaging in critical dialogue with psychologies that are based upon other worldviews. In short, Christian psychologists wish to produce a Coe and Hall defend the transformational psychology view. "worldview–explicit" psychology (175).y view. • 8. The Doctrine Of The Trinity THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY: Instructor:Lisa Nichols Hickman – hickmanl@duq.edu Director:Father Radu Bordeianu, Ph.D. Course Description: At the center of the Christian faith is a mystery. This mystery has everything to do with the identity of God, the nature of Christian community, the salvation history and our understanding of Christology. This is the mystery of theTrinity – how is the Godhead fully three persons, and yet one nature? Theophilus was the first to name the 'triad' nature of God in his letter To Autolycus in 170 A.D. Tertullian was the first to offer terminology to describe this mystery in Against Praxeas claiming "the Trinity" involved three 'persons' of one substance. Thistheology emerged from the Biblical witness, even though scripture offers no doctrine of the Trinity itself. Even more so, the development of the doctrine of the Trinity grew from the early church's worship, witness and corporate experience. When faced with a mystery, heresies can't help but emerge. Docetism and Arianism, Adoptionism and Monarchianism, Nestorianism and Monophysitism are just a few of the heresies that emerged in attempts to explain away the mystery. And yet, theologians from the second century to the twenty–first century are faced with the challenge of witnessing to this mystery in both the theologia and the oikonomia of the Trinity. The church experiences the economic Trinity as new believers are drawn into Trinitarian community through an ongoing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first assumption is that Jesus, who was crucified, is Lord and that God has raised him from the dead. A second assumption is that apart from the first assumption, any and all other aspects of my confession could be flawed or wrong. My beliefs about the nature of Scripture, God, Creation, Humanity and Sin, Jesus Christ, Salvation, Holy Spirit, and the Church, though related to the centrality of the gospel, the gospel in itself is not contingent upon many these things. God is both completely other and yet, individually present in a loving and relational manner. (Olson, 129) From the account given in Genesis, it can be seen that creation is a personal act of grace on the part of God. God provides life to humanity as a free gift. Creation was a voluntary sharing of the joy that God already possesses. (Stiver, 115) God desires close fellowship with humanity and continues to seek relationship with humanity. As humanity fails and turns to evil and suffering, God continues in judgment and grace to seek relationship with humanity by creating covenant with humanity. (Stiver, 117) Thus, God is love. God is good, and as shown through scripture, humanity is created in the image of God and thus, humanity is good. In saying this, I do not believe humanity to be perfect. Humanity was not created perfect, but instead was created so that humanity required growth in order to approach spiritual perfection or relationship with God. Though this growth can occur through tragedy, God does not necessarily intend evil to provide a means for this growth because a person can grow to gain a relationship with God simply by obeying God's laws and choosing God over ... • 10. The Church Structure THE CHURCH STRUCTURE Thelma Grannison DSMN 620–D02 December 15, 2012 INTRODUCTION Churches throughout the world teach the Good News in diverse settings. Some churches use a the pulpit to deliver their message every Sunday, while others take a more organic approach meeting outside the walls of the church in several places to deliver the message of Jesus Christ. In America, the mission of the church is set against an environment of secularism. Secular values of diversity and extreme liberty have created a culture of 'anything goes' that leads to ambivalence among unbelievers. The universal belief in today's culture is that if it works for someone, it is acceptable but if it does not work for someone then it can be ignored. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the words of Billy Hornsby, "The attractional church never loses sight of the souls for whom Christ died, with a passion to reach outward to cultures that the church has neglected. It engages these cultures through a relevant, relational approach to communicating the gospel." Hornsby points out that the attractional church finds it impossible to be indifferent to the cultures around them, whether those cultures are subcultures within the dominant contemporary culture or foreign cultures in other lands. The attractional church perceives missions as the reason for its existence because it is through missions that members fulfill Jesus' command to disciple others to the ends of the earth. At the same time, the attractional church uses a fairly traditional structure within which to minister and outreach to others. In addition, the attractional church empowers others through training and leadership opportunities to minister to seekers in a variety of contexts. As such, the hierarchical structure has a bottom–up approach that focuses on the people whom the church serves and works its way up to the top without losing this emphasis. As a part of this focus, attractional churches create inspiring worship services that appeal to many people and intend to encourage members and new believers to participate in building the kingdom of God. As such, the attractional church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It tries to explain things through a hierarchal concept and that each level is separate from each other. They are not combined but are built upon each other. This view allows one to view science and psychology as it is. It helps one to prioritize which of the level is higher than the other, and which should be regarded as most important. The explanation view is comprehensive with its explanation from elemental aspect to an integrative aspect. This ensure us that God desire to establish relation with us and the phrase "My people" revealed His desire for us to have relationship with each other as well. Through this holistic view of body, soul, and spirit, one is able to understand human beings. I agree with this view as this model attempts to develop psychology as a form of Christianity. This view of tripartite nature of human being, body, soul, and spirit, is being supported by the scripture 1 Thessalonians 5:23 "Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again" (NIV). This challenges other secular views on psychology as psychology can be viewed in a Christian view. According to Johnson, "psychology is native to Christianity; it is already a fundamental dimension of our faith" (p. 174). I personally like this model, but one aspect I disagree with this view is its focus on the past. It may lead to base ones view on only history and past research on Christian psychology, which limits one from discovery new psychological aspects. I believe that it ... It is important to note that this stewardship approach is not geared solely toward fundraising, but more significantly, it seeks to educate, inform, and stir a righteous passion for generosity. What makes Generosity a real and powerful witness to God's love is our action." In complete agreement with Willard and Sheppard, the testament to the generosity of this organization will rest on its action. Generosity will be determined by the willingness of the community to give from a posture of love. I replied, with a confidence I had not felt since I left my high school math classroom, "An empowering agent of hope." Although a year had passed since writing about my metaphors and functions for ministry, for the first time, I claimed my metaphor to my ordination council not quite a month ago. Through the lens of empowerment and hope, and within my current context of rural congregational ministry, this semester of considering issues for women in Christian ministry revealed insights, questions, and growing edges. Joan Chittister, in Heart of Flesh: A Feminist Spirituality for Women and Men, and Katharine Rhodes Henderson, in God's Troublemakers, crafted a framework for ministering as a female in a rural congregation. Using author Sally Helgesen's "web of inclusion" (Henderson, 59) as a base understanding for the myriad of interconnections in ministry, Henderson claims that the spectrum of personal to universal lives on the strands of the web (Henderson, 59), with each person existing as their own sphere. I find hope, for myself and for my community of faith, in the interconnectedness and continuum of the web of inclusion. For example, I guided my congregation as they gathered Church World Service flood buckets from the community. In order to explain what it means to confess that God is triune, Migliore explains the origin of our confession as well as the implications of a God who is three in one. In the following essay, I will give an account of Migliore's description of how and why we confess the trinity before describing the three interpretive statements Migliore offers to us in an attempt to explain the triune God in depth. Migliore defines the Christian confession of God as triune as a "summary description of the witness of Scripture to God's unfathomable love incarnate in Jesus Christ and experienced and celebrated in the community of faith" (Migliore 67). He is quick to explain that "the doctrine of the Trinity is not a revealed doctrine...[because it] did not descend miraculously from heaven, nor was it written by God on tablets of stone"'; rather it is "the product of the meditation and reflection of the church on the gospel message over many centuries" (67). That said, Migliore believes that a confession of the triune God has both a biblical and experiential basis. He states "if talk of the triune God is not to be wild speculation, it will always find its basis and its limit both in the biblical narrative of God that comes to the world through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the actual ... The church is in decline and turmoil for many reasons (lack of time or interest, aversion to authority, dislike of evangelical Christian "morals," avoidance of the term "religious") but Celtic Spirituality, which has existed for centuries, still speaks. This form of spirituality is valid and should be valued in today's world because the tradition's principles can support society's current theological challenges. Books written by preeminent Celtic spiritualists John O'Donohue and John Philip Newell highlight these core values: friendship, love, beauty, silence and solitude, mystery, and interconnection between all of creation/the cosmos and the divine. • 18. Stewardship In The Bible There will be eternal reward and consequences beyond residency in heaven. The judgment time is called the Bema Seat of Christ or judgment seat of Christ. That day of reckoning is described in the following three passages: 1 Corinthians 3:12–15, 2 Corinthians 5:10, and Romans 14:10–12. These passages include a reckoning of more than just financial issues. The above truth is a sobering fact of Scripture. If Millennials were to internalize these values, it would create a sense of careful calculations in all matters of life. After determining that God owns all things and that Christians are accountable to God, it is important to clarify how the word steward is used in the Bible. In biblical times a steward was a trusted person given responsibility for someone else's possessions which may include care for livestock, immediate family members, or servants. , A steward's duty was to manage on behalf of the master with the purpose to increase the master's resources or influence. Finally, it implied some form of judgment or reckoning to reward the steward if he was faithful in the management of the entrusted resources. "Often, stewardship is thought of only in terms of finances, but the Bible teaches that stewardship is a far greater concept, involving how we respond with all of our life." For the purposes of this dissertation topic, the Project Director acknowledges stewardship includes more than finances but will focus predominantly on financial stewardship. If the project ... One's personal theology affects the neurological wiring in one's brain which unconsciously influences decisions and actions. There are specific theological views that I believe shape my understanding of a minister's role as well as preaching. One particular theological view that shapes how I understand the role of a minister and shapes my homiletic process is also a doctrinal belief of my denomination that I wholly subscribe to. This tenant is referred to in the reformed tradition as "priesthood of all believers." What that means is that I believe Jesus is a gift from God and it is the responsibility of all those who claim to be Christians to minster to others. This effects my preaching as I am consciously aware of my sermon's ability to help others view me as someone who is on this journey with them, who happens to have more expertise in biblical studies guiding them, but who is not belittling them. • 23. My Worldview : My Worldview My worldview begins from with a biblical view. What does it mean to be human? Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (KJV). Because we were made in the image of God, it is in his Word that we will find the answer to what it means to be human. Jesus Christ is the source of our true identity and nature. Romans 8:29 speaks of "being conformed to the image of his Son." Our purpose originally was to love and fellowship with God. Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, the sin factor entered the equation and made humanity prone to sin. When Christ came to earth and died for our sins, he created the opportunity to be redeemed from those sins. It is only through his grace that we are able to be reconciled with him. If we drift in life, our human sin nature causes us to drift away from God. Therefore, we must purpose in our hearts and in our actions to live a life free of sin and in relationship with the Almighty. When a person lives a repentant life and in daily relationship with the Almighty, it brings an individual back to his or her original purpose, to love and fellowship with God. This, then, opens the door to the promises and the miraculous of the Word of God. For instance, Matthew 11:28 promises that if you simply come to Christ, he will give you rest. Philippians 4:19 promises that God will meet all of your needs. 1 Peter 2:24 mentions a supernatural healing that can take place because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Universe Next Door By James W. Sire: Chapter Analysis In the Bible book of Genesis chapters one through eleven is the story of the creation of the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and civilization. This is a story created by God, written by Moses and lived out by everyone, believers and nonbelievers. The first eleven chapters of Genesis do not set out to prove the existence of God, as some are trying to do today. These chapters simply put Him at the center of everything. The beginning of Genesis contains the account of creation, the fall of mankind into sin, procreation leading to civilization, the flood to bring about the re–creation, and finally the culminating account of man marveling in his own effort – the Tower of Babel. All of which creates the foundation of theology and the Christian's worldview of how God intended things to function in our world. Genesis also forms a foundation for other religious and secular morals which aid in forming a worldview. By placing God at the center of everything, He creates the moral foundational worldview for cultures around the globe. In his book, The Universe Next Door, James W. • 25. One Branch Of Faith Is Assenting One branch of faith is assenting. Comprised of "knowledge, trust, and acceptance," it is the standard faith that most Christians think about. Thomas Aquinas, the Doctor of the Church, was and is a brilliant theologian. His work, the Summa Theologica, is unmatched in depth and wisdom. Through it, Aquinas wrote a masterful detailed overview of all theology. In the Summa Theologica, Thomas Aquinas defines this faith as "an infused virtue by reason of which we accept on God's authority what he has revealed to us" (Nature and Grace, Aquinas). In other words, faith is within us and by it we accept what God has revealed to us. However, there is another aspect of faith. As Rich Lusk says in his book, Paedofaith: A Primer on the Mystery of Infant Salvation and a Handbook for Covenant Parents: Faith therefore here means a confident personal relatedness of the heart of Jesus which can exist without a detailed and articulated understanding of what is and must be unfolded in the proclamation of the gospel...This state of affairs leads to an intensification of the concept of faith in the case of children on account of the fact that it here means a relatedness to Christ, a trust in the person of Christ behind which the individual and utterable elements of the deposit of faith recede. The Parable Of The Good Samaritan There was an article written by John Darley and Daniel Batson, who was inspired from the parable of the Good Samaritan and decided to organize a research to test the limits of people's good will towards something. Later they also published their research results in a paper in the year of 1973, titled "From Jerusalem to Jericho." The history of the parable of the Good Samaritan was quite interesting. The research was conducted based on 3 different hypotheses which they thought might influence people's helping behavior. One of the hypotheses was that, people that were thinking in terms of religious would have any effect on helping others. Second one was that people that are in a rush will be less likely to offer any help to others compared to the ones that are not in a rush. And the third one is that, people who are religious, more in a Samaritan fashion, would be more like offer aid than those of a priest or more of a Levite fashion. Instead of just analyzing scripture, the researchers put the participants randomly into various conditions, such as causing some of them to rush somewhere and others to take their time to go to that same place; making people think from a religious point of view and for others it was not quite necessary. For the study, both researchers chose participants from the Princeton Theological Seminary. There was also a 6 –point scale set to measure the "helping behavior." Within the spiritual model beliefs, values, social support, a sense of efficacy and hope are important; however, beliefs alone are inadequate for healing. Practical application of attitudes and beliefs is critical in providing a sense of relief and hope (Yarhouse et al., 2005, p. 43). Worth When the individual and contextual value of a person is broken through traumatic experience like CSA, the question of worth within the self, family and in the larger body of Christ emerges. Victims who find it difficult to viewGod as love and sustainer and thus accurately ascribe self–worth may find pastoral assistance helpful. Because young people are highly relational, Christian doctrine is critical for effective youth ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth ministry must copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life, teachings and work for us. The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully navigate the seas over which they will travel. "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy–laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest [I will erase and relieve and refresh your souls.]" (Matthew 11:28, Amplified). Anderson (2000) asserts, based on Ephesians 2:1, that man is born into the world alive physically but spiritually dead. God must be in the core of one's personality to live and experience true fullness of life and health. C. Human Development Human development is a life long process, which is ever changing in body, mind, and spirit (Adams, 1986). Crabb (1977) believes a Christian counselor helps one to grow into Christ like maturity, this is done though "1) immediate obedience in specific situations and 2) long–rang character growth" (p. 25). • 30. The Belief That Adam And Eve The belief that Adam and Eve along with other Biblical figures did not exist historically is one that is growing in prominence as people begin to question the extent to which the creation account in the Bible ought to be taken as a historical account considering other ancient Mesopotamian creation accounts. Many find the possibility that Adam did not exist to be a challenging one but it is important to acknowledge that Christianity is not dependent on the existence of Adam (Lamoureux, 89) but on faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Just as the portrayal of the three–tiered universe seen in Genesis is often rejected today on understanding that the Holy Spirit spoke to the author of Genesis in a way that both he and the audience of the day would understand, it is possible that the account of Adam and creation of the first couple is to be valued for it's etiological significance as opposed to it's historical accuracy (Lamoureux, 84). The de novo understanding of creation, which asserts that the earth was created quickly, was the scientific view that was popular in the time of the ancient Hebrews, just as evolution has become the popular belief today. That being said, if one chose to believe that Adam and Eve were not historical figures, this would present a problem with regards to the concept of original sin. Though the question of creationism versus evolutionism solicits a choice, the dichotomy of evolution versus creation, which is often portrayed, is one that is false. ... • 31. Summary Of Book ' Liberty University ' McMinn Book Review Michelle Meyer Liberty University McMinn Book Review Summary Christian counselors have a responsibility to their clients to integrate psychology and theology in their therapeutic approaches. Incorporating multiple components however is not as straight forward as one might think. In Psychology Theology, and Spirituality (McMinn, 2011) McMinn discusses the benefits of an integrated counseling approach that strives to promote "both spiritual and emotional growth" (McMinn, 2011, p. 5) by including a third element; spirituality, or more specifically, spiritual formation. Finding the proper blend of elements can be challenging even for a seasoned therapist. McMinn outlines common challenges in each chapter, and offers thoughts on how to blend psychology, theology, and spirituality in the specific setting of the counseling relationship; a relationship that ideally demonstrates how relationship with God our redeemer can bring transformational change in the counselee. As he does in the second section of his book, McMinn begins by outlining how even the counseling relationship itself will present its own set of challenges. Two challenges faced by counselors include training in spiritual formation, something that comes solely through deepening their own relationship with God, and establishing boundaries between their personal and professional life while still drawing upon personal experience in the counseling sessions. A third challenge presents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Pastoral Institute Research Paper Agency Paper: The Pastoral Institute Introduction Pastoral counseling is a significant and important part of the counseling field, which is what sparked my interest when choosing an agency. It was important to me to find out how they used their spiritual basis in counseling to help their clients and the community, and whether or not they are able to help and reach culturally diverse groups effectively. Also, due to the strict nature ofreligion, I also wanted to find out whether their counseling practices placed any restrictions on their clients and those they choose to affiliate themselves with. Initially, I spoke with an intake coordinator at the facility who gave me a brief overview of the agency's mission, goals, and history, as well as the services they provide both directly and indirectly. However, due to her limited knowledge of these subjects, she suggested that I speak to the clinical director, Ms. Donna Plummer, who she felt could provide me with more detailed information. Since there is no biblical evidence that the image varies within individuals, this view cannot be logically supported. The Relational View The next view is the relational view. This view asserts that the image of God is the capacity to hold a relationship, particularly with God. This way of thinking is formed out of the fact that the Godhead has relationship within itself. This is found in Genesis 1:26, where God says, "Let us make man in our image." This agrees with Karl Barth's belief that within the Godhead the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit experience relationship. Furthermore, man experiences relationship with one another and with God. This very aspect is interpreted as being the image of God. This view accurately displays the biblical truth that humanity is the only created being out of all of creation that has the ability to commune with God. However, issues arise explaining the relational view when one does not believe in God. Can one say they are still image bearers? Emil Brunner answers this by saying that one is always in some sort of relationship with God, regardless of belief. The Functional View The last of the main views held states that the image of God is actually something the human does; this is called the functional view. This view naturally disagrees with the preceding theories that support the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Doctrine Of The Afterlife : The Old Testament Doctrine of the Afterlife in the Old Testament In the ancient Hebrew writings, the concept of heaven and hell is limited to an underworld development. After burial, it was believed that the souls of the dead would descent into the lower parts of the earth. This underworld or Sheol was a place where people would "dwell as weak, dim shades with no consolation from God." The book of Psalms considers Sheol as the Pit, where there is no help and the soul is remembered no more (Ps. 88:3–5). The Old Testament provides meaningful insight into the doctrine of the afterlife by declaring that all people regardless of being righteous or unrighteous goes to Sheol and remembered no more. On numerous occasions, the New Testament shared the concept of paradise alluding to a gathering place for the saints of God. When Jesus was on the cross with the criminal, He turned to him and replied, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise" (Lk, 23:43). From this point, Jesus provided an afterlife concept giving the criminal hope and satisfaction that there was more coming after death. Christianity believes in the rewards of heaven for all who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and son of the Most High God. Jesus shares with His disciples that He was going away to prepare a place for them, but would return one day to take them back (Jn 14:2–3). He makes a distinct separation that those who believe it Him would have a dwelling place in heaven. Contrarily, those who denounce Him would be judged and punished to hell. A major theological problem exist as it related to Christ descending into hell to take the keys of death. Although the Apostle's Creed points out that Jesus descended down into hel, His descent was not about suffering, but about a triumph victory over Satan. In order to ascertain the truth behind the afterlife, the validity of hell has to be established. The Authenticity of Hell The concept of hell can be viewed as three distinct underworld concepts in the Old and New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The God, Son, And Holy Spirit, By Dr. Bruce Ware "Would God have chosen to reveal himself to us as the one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, unless he knew that this would be important to our understanding of him and of our faith? Must it not be the case that God cares greatly that we "get it," that we see him for who he is? And must it not matter to our own lives, whether or not we understand him as the triune God that he is?" (13) This is the very heart of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: Relationships, Roles, and Relevance, by Dr. Bruce Ware, Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Christian Theology, at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. The book was initially written for the purpose of teaching at a pastor's conference, but with the help of his diligent secretary was composed into a book. Through the perseverance of his secretary and Dr. Ware's gifted theological teaching, we now have what one critic considers "a thorough theological treatise that any biblically literate layman can understand." (Paige Patterson) This theological "treatise" is divided into six main chapters, that each focus on the Trinitarian doctrine. Understanding the doctrine of the Trinity is essential to the Christian faith, which is the central goal of this book. The main focus of this study is to examine the ways in which the three Persons of the Trinity relate to one another, how they relate to us, and what difference this makes to our lives. Dr. Ware accomplishes this through discussing the wonder of each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay on Women and the Trinity Women and the Trinity For most of us, faith development is a process. We grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God. As a Christian woman I know that my consciousness about the feminist agenda has evolved in stages also. First, I became aware of the generic language. Words like "mankind", "brotherhood", and the overused pronoun "he" was supposed to describe all of humanity. IT was clear that they contained a masculine bias. Little girls grew up hearing those words literally and scaling down their self–image. I decided that even if I was not personally offended by these terms, inclusive language was a matter of justice. Language both reflects the way we think and informs what we think. That was stage one in my feminist journey.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be also argues that the doctrine of the Trinity violates the unity of God, calling on Christians to worship three gods instead of one. The first source to which Christian theology looks for it's teaching is the New Testament. It is the New Testament, which unfolds the divine plan introduced in the Old, and it is by the New Testament revelation that the Old Testament revelation is interpreted. For this reason all Christians theologians have made the New Testament their primary source for data in constructing views of God and His relation to the world. We must place all theology in context. As the Old Testament affirms, God is incomparable. Isaiah writes that we dare not make our God out of gold, or carry the divine around in a neat package to sit here or stand there. God reminds Israel, and all peoples, that "I am God and there is no other, I am God and there is none like me." The doctrine of the Trinity lies in the New Testament rather in the form of allusion than in express teaching. The early Christians agree that it was essential to explain the relationship between Jesus and God. Yet their assertions about Christ raised questions about the unity of God. Trinitarian theology provided an important solution; it kept Christians from backsliding into superstitious polytheism, but it also prevented Jewish monotheism from undermining the significance of Christ ... • 38. Verbatim Reflection When I brought this verbatim to my supervisor and peers, I received affirmation and criticism that I carried with me the rest of the summer. They named one of my main strengths that they saw show up in this verbatim–my ability to connect with people on a human level, to make people feel comfortable and at ease in my presence. They saw this in how the patient felt comfortable sharing her struggles concerning her hospital trip, but also about her daughter and her churches. To me, I did not see this as anything special; I thought it was normal and natural to focus not only on what was happening in the hospital, but on the patient's life more broadly–I want patients to know that they are more than their present illness, and that their present ... This awareness is not natural, but comes as a result of reflecting both individually and with others. Question 5: Impressions of Clinical Pastoral Education The most significant learning experience I had from CPE was a shift from doing things perfectly, to being a human to another human. When I started CPE, I was fearful I did not know what to "do." The scant few days of training and orientation seemed wholly inadequate for the task ahead–I was supposed to provide pastoral care? I was supposed to be a chaplain? Suddenly the vocation I had dreamed of doing for so long was before me, and I was terrified of messing it up. The clinical method of learning–action, reflection, action–seemed outrageous. I am a perfectionist, and I often want to know the exact steps in the procedure; I want to know what to do to achieve optimal results. I was immobilized by fear of failure. Our supervisor jokingly cajoled us with the phrase, "Get lost!" What started as his best advice to navigating the confusing world of the hospital became advice in a much broader sense. He emphasized that CPE was about getting lost and finding your way through, it was about letting go of a theology of perfection to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An old woman with her two grandchildren went to the supermarket for some groceries. The little boy and girl accompanied their grandmother, helping her out with some groceries. While the little girl was picking a few things at the market, her grandmother told her that the items she had chosen were not necessarily, although, the grandmother told her granddaughter to choose something special for her grandfather since it was his birthday, while he was home waiting for them to come back with the groceries. The little girl picked up a cake from the pastry section and ran to the counter where her grandmother and brother were waiting, ready to check out. When the cashier added the cake to the other items it made the grocery purchase higher than the money they had in hand, so the grandmother pleaded with the cashier to void the cake out of her transaction. The granddaughter pleaded with the grandmother that she wanted the cake and that she would not have asked for anything else. The grandmother had no choice by not buying the cake. As soon as they left the market a gentleman at the market decided to purchase the cake that the young girl left at the market. The grandmother and her grandchildren on their way home the gentle man approached the young girl and the grandmother with the cake that the young girl chose for her grandfather. • 40. Models of God, Humanity, and Nature My Experiences,... Models of God, Humanity, and Nature My Experiences, Thoughts, and Critical Analyses I ask a lot of questions; I'm a curious person. I once asked my mom why people die, why there are bad things in the world if God is so good and all–powerful. Her response was that we just couldn't really understand why God does anything because we can't comprehend God's "master plan." I'm sure that she was right, but that response is not very satisfying to a curious little boy. I saw an inconsistency in my understanding of reality, and I wanted to get things straight. I guess this little anecdote begins to illustrate a couple of my basic life principles. A concise explanation of how I look at the world is just this: We humans, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once one has that understanding (or "model"), one then does one's best to live in a way consistent with that model and perhaps in the process, persuade others of your world view. Before going back to my own story though, I just wanted to clarify the difference between inconsistency and simplification. I feel that it is possible to simplify a complex idea without it being necessarily inconsistent. I could simplify the weather in two ways. I could say that direct sunlight makes it warmer outside. I could also say that sunny days are warmer than cloudy days. Both models of the weather are simplifications of a very complex system. However, my first one is consistent with my experience since sunlight usually makes me feel warmer than when there is no sunlight. Saying that sunny days are warmer than cloudy days is not always true though. Therefore simplification doesn't necessitate inconsistency. Now since I've set up my view of models and life, I can tell my story, using these ideas as a framework for understanding my life. I think that in telling my story, I can communicate my ideas without being technical, philosophical, or lecturing. Maybe it will be effective, maybe not. I'll find personal enjoyment just in telling my story though, and maybe some ideas will be persuasive in an experiential context. Every now and then, I'll try to draw my conclusions in a way that is concise
