This story is about Stephen Stafford II, a 13-year-old boy studying at Morehouse College. He watches typical teenage activities like TV and plays video games, but is pursuing degrees in math, computer science, and pre-med at the historically black college. Stephen's mother recognized his advanced academic abilities during homework and advocated for him to be in a more rigorous curriculum. Stephen believes many kids his age could do better if the school system challenged them more, as they lose interest due to a lack of challenges. He will graduate from Morehouse in June 2010 with multiple degrees.

2. This short story is about Stephen Stafford II who is a typical 13 year who watches television,plays video games and plays his drums. What is not typical is that he is a student at Morehouse College. You know Morehouse, it's one of the historical Black Colleges founded for young African American males. It is located in Alanta, Georgia and this is where young Stephen is studying to receive degrees in math,computer science, and pre-med. This youngester will graduate this June 2010 and will also receive his diploma. He plans to continue at Morehouse in medicine.

3. I didn't mention that Stephen's mother recognized his academic ability during homework sessions. His mother states that Stephen would teach her the work, she then recognized he was beyond just advanced,he needed a setting that provided a more rigorous curriculum. I find Stephen's comments so true when asked about his ability to succeed so well outside the normal schooling for his age, Stephen says many kids his age could do far better than this system allows. He goes on to say he thinks this is a problem with a lot of kids in school. They have the capacity but they arenot challenged, they lose interest.

4. Most students at the age of thirteen have lost the enthusiasm and their passion for school, he did not say learning. Ninety-nine percent of kids start out eager to learn and go to school. Challenges decrease, bordom creeps in and students find outside of school is more challenging than in shool. If we are to recontruct the institution called school drastic challenges lie ahead for policy makers,leadership of schools, and the community. Can society support more Stephens? What must schools do to recapture the hearts and minds of our teenage population of learners?
