Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) uses gamma-ray emitting radiotracers and gamma cameras to produce 3D images of organ function. Positron emission tomography (PET) uses radiotracers that emit positrons and detects coincident gamma rays to produce 3D images of metabolic processes. Hybrid imaging combines anatomical and functional imaging by performing PET/CT or SPECT/CT scans, allowing correlation of metabolic and functional data with anatomical structures.
