problem that may children all over the world face. Child abuse can be in the form of verbal and/or
physical abuse, bullying, and so on. The lyrics shows us how the obvious signs of abuse can be
seen but bystanders choose to ignore what is going on. The lyrics of Concrete Angel relates to
sociology in many ways. The lyrics relate to three perspectives of sociology. Those perspectives are
conflict, interactionism, and functionalism. The main focus of this paper is the characterization
portraying the societal issue of child abuse.

In 1985, author Neil Postman released an article titled Learning in the Age of Television . The
focus of the article is how technology, more specifically television, can influence and affect the
education of children. Postman elaborates on these topics by bringing in facts and examples, such
as the educational televisionshow Sesame Street , to support his claims.
Postman begins his article discussing how parents have embraced the educational television show
Sesame Street . The program would prove to justify children s overexposure to television as well
as relieving parents of the responsibility of teaching their children how to read (1). Aside from just
appearing to be an imaginative aid in helping Americans to read, Sesame Street would ... Show
Educational television shows such as Sesame Street can be effective in learning as long as
viewership of the program is not excessive. An educational show of the sorts can create a strong
basis for a task such as reading or learning the alphabet. The show would also help to better
prepare a student on a topic before they learn the topic at hand in school. A problem only arises if
one watches an excessive amount of educational television and just expects education in classrooms
to be all entertainment as well. Teaching and entertainment do not have to be independent of
each other as one can highlight or emphasis a point by using the other. As for electronic media in
general, I do agree with Postman that it can be debatable when it comes to education, however, I
also believe that it can also be very beneficial if done right. Whether it is a video or film an
educator shows in class, the media can help to emphasize or elaborate on a point trying to be
made. The media can act as an aid to students to help them develop a more well rounded
understanding on a topic. I also disagree with one of Postman s three commandments as the second
one, regarding perplexity, cannot be applied to all television shows. Postman states that a perplexed
learner is a learner who will turn to another station.
